First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.

Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Yes, Munsty and whats the betting Ireland will be playing South Africa - again. (a weakened South Africa of course)

Is it maximising income though. I have no doubt that a well publicised three test series against South Africa or Australia would do far better.

I can't describe how good I think Irelands summer schedule is:

Barbarians
New Zealand
The Maoris
New Zealand
Some Random ITM Cup Side
New Zealand

Excellent - thats what will sell. If RFU had any sense they'd be hoping for the likes of SA to stay for 3 tests and try milk it for all its got.

I like the idea of a Three Test series but considering there are only three real big sellers from the Southern Hemisphere, Argentina hopefully will become one soon, a few countries are going to miss out up north.

What I would propose is Two Test tours and then add in a "Marquee Test".

So England play Fiji, then New Zealand in Twickenham and the following week in Manchester and finish off with one more game against Australia in Twickenham.

In all likelihood, I'd like to see the Fiji game brought somewhere else but I know England will want to have as many games at Twickers as possible.

MBTGOG - yea I'm fairly sure England have to play them all at Twickers.

What I would be thinking of:

England v Fiji
England v South Africa
The "English" Barbarians v South Africa in Wembley
England v South Africa
Northampton Saints v SA
England v South Africa

I think the concept of an "English Barbarians" would be a big seller. Market it as a completely uncapped or retired team from the Premiership.

Italy might take that but Scotland are used to the big nations and they are probably the major money maker for them. They will not want to give that up.

Southern Hemisphere Pot:
Argentina
Australia
New Zealand

Anyone else think a good tour for someone like Tonga would be playing a Tier Two Nation like Georgia or Russia at the end or the start of the tour then during the tour staying in one country like Ireland where they play one of the provinces, then the Wolfhounds in another of the Provinces and finish off with a real Test against Ireland?

I doubt Tonga (or Fiji/Samao) would make enough money from touring NH Tier 2 nations, which is a shame as that's whats needed.

I like the fact that Ireland and Wales are doing tours of NZ and Oz respectfully, and I believe Wales maybe playing Fiji as a mid week- also Scotland are doing a 2 test series of Samoa (or it may be Fiji) and a mid week game against Oz.

But my ideal for Wales in future years would be for a test against Oz/SA/NZ, then a test against a Tier 2 nation, a mid week game Wales A against a Tier 2 nation, then a game against a Oz/SA/NZ, then on the Sunday a tier 2 game or a OZ/SA/NZ game against 1 of the regions and then another game against a Tier 2 nation.

I think that would be a good tour, would use a large variety of players, would give the tier 2 nations exposure, and bring in the money.

Van Morrison is playing two concerts in Ireland next year.
Friday 3rd Feb in Belfast
Saturday 4th Feb in Dublin

Reasonably decent seats are £60 plus booking fee.

The only decent comment on here for a while IMBO is that of Prop concerning mid-week games.International head to heads are becoming so much a bore, repetitive nonsense, that more focus must be placed on giving the bread and butter rugby the opportunity to contest touring sides;and it would help develop the game by interesting the locals who would fill Lansdowne for a Leinster/Boks, or Twickenham for a LI,Wasps/Oz.

Looks like I may have to upgrade the car rental from a Kia

There's a second slot in the greenhouse with Hoog furious

Asbo, I wouldn't go to so much trouble mate Wink

Oi what's with the pimping out of my car?! Hoog was meant to be staying in my house for 2 nights last meet....he never actually made it to even see my house once!
Where was he? Does he have a history of not sleeping where he's mean to be?

I'd be careful Stag or you could well be sleeping in Prop's car on 11th December.

Sleeping is not the problem...

I've noticed Davie wumming a bit. Wasn't there an admin or mod called Davie?

Also that England rugby fan is a pretty similar poster to Nottins in that he only seems to go on Welsh threads arguing (or arguing with Welsh supporters anyway). Seeing as Nottins is no more under that name, maybe he is back?

Hi all by the way. In the middle of two weeks leave before my three month holiday. Good news is I get Dragons v USAP a week today before I go (rain permitting of course).

Very jealous of the imminent big meet by the way. Nice to see that idiot Hughie on Saturday at Wembley. That man has some impressive ways to dodge silly stadium laws Wink
