The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing pictures of Shane Williams above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah I love my Dad. Just got off the phone to him, telling him my plans for the weekend.
I have these list of instructions to follow.
1. eat lots during the week and get plenty of sleep
2. wrap up warm
3. make sure I eat well on the actual days
4. don't drink too much!
ha, I just want to give him a cwtch.

Maybe so.
I have seen worse of course, just trying to point out that negative play is something all sides do even Glas' first team!!!

Get the Zovirax on it now!!
It really does help if you get in early enough!
At the "tingling" stage is best.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
oh Zovirax is absolutely rubbish, or it is whenever I use it! It started tingling about an hour ago, so have had the lip gloss to hand, that usually stops it getting too bad.
Ad - that would be a brilliant Q&A, fair play.

It certainly is no use if you don't get in early but I'm pretty sure it's more effective than lip gloss at the tingling stage.
Depends on what effect you are aiming for though I suppose!

no seriously MrsP, Zovirax has never, ever worked for me. Lip gloss is actually better (although admitedly not great!)

Yes, that's one of the things that attracted me to Ulster. No offence to Gibbo et al in Leinster, not only would supporting them be bandwagony, but the vulnerability isn't there. It's all too clinical. I like the fact that Ulster have failings.
The float is Wednesdays and Sundays. We raise money for Round Table. We raise up to 10k pa and distribute grants for local good causes. Last year we did everything from giving the local Scouts half the money they needed for a new floor to their hall to paying for an access ramp for a disabled child and sponsoring local school children who had got through to the world finals of a mock trial competition in New York.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Good man Glas.
In Belfast the Dean of St Anne's Cathedral started to raise money for Charity by sitting outside the cathedral for the week before Christmas. It began in 1976, a time when Belfast was not always a safe place and has continued each year since then. He wears his Clerical robes and so was dubbed the "Black Santa".
Always raises staggering amounts.
Well done Glas.
Maybe you could suggest a few new tunes for the journey though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I haven't forgotten Glas. Just trying to work out most efficient way to get from Brizzle area to PYS and back again. Problem then will be parking in Llanelli.
car journey will be about 2 1/2 hours; train is 2 hours from Bristol Parkway but that's a hike from here. Also notice the Scarlets site is rubbish and ASSUMES everyone will be travelling by car!! What if you take a train? How does one get from the station to PYS?
(We need to minimise time spent in Llanelli as we are "hiring" a puppy sitter for the day ...)

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I see Mr Ashton will have to explain his "hair-pull" to the authorities.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/16042053.stm
Or for those who can't access the website: -
Chris Ashton has been charged with "an act contrary to good sportsmanship" after appearing to drag Leicester winger Alesana Tuilagi off the pitch by his hair on Saturday.
Northampton's England winger was cited over the incident following a tackle in Saints' 30-25 defeat at Leicester.
A touchline brawl ensued and Tuilagi and Northampton flanker Tom Wood were both sent off by referee Wayne Barnes.
All three players face a Rugby Football Union (RFU) hearing on Tuesday.
Tuilagi and Wood have both been charged with "striking an opponent".
It could be an expensive day for Northampton, because Saints back-row Phil Dowson has also been summoned after he was cited for a dangerous tackle on Saracens back Alex Goode in a Premiership game at Franklin's Gardens nine days ago.
Northampton have a busy period of games in which they face Castres home and away in the Heineken Cup, followed by Bath on 24 December and Newcastle on 1 January 2012 in the Premiership.
England winger Ashton, who scored in Saturday's game, was punched in the face by Tuilagi's brother Manu at the end of last season.
Referee Barnes, who was in charge of that game as well, gave both Ashton and Manu Tuilagi yellow cards on the advice of his touch judge on that occasion.
Tuilagi, who is now an England team-mate of Ashton's, was subsequently banned for five weeks by an RFU disciplinary panel.

MrsP, not the first time I have seen Scarlets do some cynical play and cheap shots this past 2 seasons. Of course they play "beautiful rugby" so it won't get noticed. While Munster are penalised to death and hated for playing to the letter of the law and beyond. Like Scarlets and all the other teams are angels.

Kia - If you get a train, there are always taxi's lined up outside waiting which can take you to the stadium (costs about £6.50 and this is how the big bunch of us will be getting to and from the train station), or you can wait for the Park and Ride to collect you. (it goes ever half hour). I've complained to the Scarlets before about not putting this info up on the website, it seems ridiculous that they don't!

Maybe you could suggest a few new tunes for the journey though.
Every year we have the same discussion in June. I want it updated (there's nothing on there after that one with two American girls 'singing' about their favourite holiday "bah humbug, but that's too strong..." etc.) and have some Welsh songs on there. I had my way, however the bloke who understands the little gadget went and it his fathers collection of pious Christmas dirges, tge slowest least joyfull songs you could imagine on there, which put my argument back a little.

Most teams will play cynically and put in a few cheap shots if they think they can get away with it. The Scarlets probably aren't the first to do it and they definitely won't be the last.

Scarlets don't get criticised for it though and never will. It's all due to their image of playing "pure rugby".

ha you clearly have never read any of the articles from a couple of seasons ago that slated Rhys Thomas for his stupid off the ball stuff he used to be prone to.
All teams have idiot players who put in cheap shots, tis just the way it goes.
I also suspect I've just bitten, when I really shouldn't have!

Nobody's perfect Thomond, but other teams try to play, with an element of trying to get away with it on occasion. Your whole game plan is based on trying to get away with it and playing a bit if you have to. Fair enough, but you're not going to win any popularity contests. What tickles me is that so many of you think that you should!

I have no problem not being popular. Hell, my club's song is called "Assholes of Society" It's all about image, I have been disgusted by some of the Scarlets play as I have been with some of Munster's before. Munster are condemned while Scarlets are not. What's the difference?

Still they've won nothing and trying to talk before they can walk. Sure the best player got slaughtered by Munster's 4th choice winger last season. He is also Wales' shining light give me a break. Rhys Priestland is nothing but a poor man's ROG. Priestland can't play when it's raining either. He cried off the semi too. In a semi you play if it kills you. BOD in the final of the HC showed how it's done.

Its just that most people like to see teams play. Not bore their way to titles. Its the way of the World. The prettiest girl gets all the plaudits. Munster pride themselves on being ugly. Sooo... it sticks.
At Leinster Ladies we like to think we are sooo purdy... and we still win Titles...
Deadly combo.
