First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Chris Paterson, Steve Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson above the bar!

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Rodders,
I have not been convinced, in any game Ive seen him play, that Ruddock is good enough for Leinster. Never mind Ireland. Connacht, Ulster or Munster for him. Dont take that wrong. It could be the making of him. He's young and a supposed leader. Its just that we have 6 internationals, fighting for 3 backrow spots. Something has got to give.

We made Niall Ronan(I think he has a cap) an international and Jones. Although both only have one cap at the moment but Jones should definitely add to his total it would be a travesty if he didn't.

A more extreme version of this attitude has plagued Irish rugby for years. We go back to what we know. Tomas O'Leary simply is not the same player since his long injury in June 2009. Maybe David Wallace or Felix Jones won't be good enough to make it into the Munster team after their injury. Other people would start them for Ireland in a heart beat.

Lets see how he gets on after injury. It would be a shame if he couldn't get back to the level he was at, but if he isn't getting more caps then its not a travesty he simply isn't playing well enough.

BTW didn't want to start a thread on it as I could be wrong but this season Leo Cullen seems to be an absolute liability and is copping a serious amount of yellow cards. Not good for a captain.

Stag, of course it depends on how he returns from injury, It would be a travesty as injury would have robbed him of more caps. I'm not a tool like his return to form obviously matters like.

Agree with the Trimble/Fitzgerald winger theory and also that Ruddock would do better to move to another team especially as he isn't from Dublin so could adapt to moving interprovincially easily. How would people feel about an Irish backline of:

09 Murray
10 Sexton
11 Fitzgerald
12 Darcy
13 McFadden
14 Trimble
15 Kearney

20 Reddan
21 O'Gara
22 Earls

and Ruddock moving to Munster which would really boost Munsters potential backrow stock. Ulster have Ferris and IMO he is too good for Connacht.

I don't really want mcFadden or D'Arcy in the team. Griffen has been the best 13 in Ireland. McFadden 12 with Griffen or O'Malley at 13.

As I said it is a more extreme version of things that is the plague. That certain players are owed caps due to past deeds. I understand your not saying that.

It may sound harsh but overcoming injury is part of a players job description. O'Driscoll have been crocked a number of times and simply kept on going reinventing himself as needed. It is always hard to deal with injury but thats part and parcel of things.

There is genuinely not a chance in a bajillion years that Eoin Griffin has:

a - done enough to warrant inclusion for Ireland
b - that he will get picked for this 6 Nations

He is at a minimum behind (in no real order): Brian O'Driscoll, Keith Earls, Fergus McFadden, Darren Cave, Eoin O'Malley, Tommy Bowe, Nevin Spence. Arguably Gavin Duffy, Danny Barnes and Andrew Trimble would get a shot at 13 ahead of him.
