The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of Maxime Medard* above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?
Last Pub: https://www.606v2.com/t21314-the-dew-drop-inn-virtual-rugby-pub
* While the other suggestion of Owens, Thomas and Hughie had merit, I couldn't face having Hughie's mug on the wall

What is needed is for players to stand up and take their chance and for the coaches to quickly identify who is going to make it long term and then make the tough decision of cutting those who won't.
Agree with this except I dont think its a problem yet. It could potenitall be but there is the makings for a talented committed group there.

Attwood, Goode, Parling and Trinder step up for the 6 Nations to replace the injured Lawes, Flood, Deacon and Tuilagi.

I don't rate Earls at 13. I'd be happy for him to prove me wrong - once he's proved me right in the opening match.

Chuffed to bits for TJ
Slightly surprised at Marler, Mears and JTH - would be happy forr all three to be selected to play Scotland. D Armitage must be kicking himself for his indiscipline.

Thats what Im talking about Stag. Most positions are nailed down and we are getting younger by each comp. Just need to see Fitz play. Sexton start with Murray... O Malley and/or Cave in the Wolfhounds. Like to see one of them get some 6-N action. I reckon both BOD & Darcy will be gone in year. Too slow now.
Really not sure about Earls at 13 in the longer-term. But, Id bet he will start there in the 6-N.
Toner over Ryan? Man you surprise me. I think he's improved imeasurably this year. I think/hope, he will be on the bench

I like the look of Toner this year. For a big guy he never used his size, always going ridciulously high into contact. He is correcting that now. I still have great time for Donncha O'Callaghan. He is playing quite well and his workrate is very good with a great tackle count and breakdown work every time he plays. He would be up to the job if he played.

Donnacha is one of my favourite players. For lots of reasons. But, do you think he can userp Ryan now at Munster, T?

I genuinely don't know what to make of the selection to be honest. There are some good and some not so good bits. I reckon you could make a passable starting England XV from both of the squads.

If DOC starts with POC then Kidney is picking combinations rather than form players. Which will mean he will pick Reddan instead of Murray. Simple enough.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
He could well get a shot to get his place back if Ryan is moved to 6 at the weekend. I don't think DOC will get his spot back although you imagine the IRFU have some say in Ryan playing. I got DOC's book for Christmas actually. Have yet to read it though. I just read Alan Partridge's new book and I'm currently reading a soccer book called "Why England Lose" which is quite interesting and SinÉ would love it.

Reddan and Murray both in great form. Big call if Reddser gets it. They are defo in the 22.
Like to see Paul Marshall get a shot with the A's. He's No. 3 in my book.
Dont want TOL anyway near the squad.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hi folks . I've not been in for a few days. I hope everyone’s well.
I would like to share a wee story about my Italian friend, Tony, and his mama.
Tony has invited his mama round for dinner, which they share with Tony’s flatmate Maria. Mama notices how attractive Maria is and how her son is looking at her, and she him.
After the meal mama says to her boy “Tony, you are very lucky with Maria. She is very pretty.”
“Oh no mama.” says Tony blushing. “It’s not like that –she is just my flatmate!” “OK, OK.” Sighs mama rolling her eyes, “She’s just your flatmate.”
About three days later Maria asks Tony if he’s seen the really nice silver sugar bowl they have in the flat.“No.” says Tony, “Can’t you find it?”
“I haven’t seen it since the evening your mama came round for dinner.” Says Maria “No one else has been here, so she must have taken it.”
Tony says, “OK, I’ll be very discreet, but I’ll ask her about it.”
He calls up mama and says “Mama, you know when you came round for dinner?” “Yes.” Says mama. “Well I’m not saying you did take it, and I’m not saying you didn’t, but the silver sugar bowl is missing from the flat.”
”Oh really” says mama. “Well I’m not saying you are sleeping with Maria, and I’m not saying you aren’t sleeping with her.” “But if Maria was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the silver sugar bowl.”

Rava, personally I get the feeling that England are well shot of a highly disruptive individual. I can't stomach players like Armitage. Highly indiscipline on the pitch but just as disruptive off field.

Paul Marshall comments say a lot about the lad
“I think with the way things have been going the last number of weeks we’re really moving forward and when you look at the strength of our squad and the players we’re signing it’s showing a real intent from the management right the way down that we want to compete with the best teams in Europe and be the best team in Europe. From my point of view I’m happy to be here and am really enjoying my rugby at the minute.” commented Marshall
“Away from rugby I have so much going on that is so important to me and it’s great that I can play rugby professionally and do it in my home town. I think that’s a really privileged position to be in and something that I would hope never to take for granted.”

Now HE is the right type of player to have playing for his home province.
It's very Hickie-esque. And key to any club who want to grow.
Pienaar is a nice little challenge for him. He should hang on his shoulder and Ulster must insist that he gets all the help he needs from Pienaar.

There's no problem with that Gibson. Before Pienaar arrived, Marshalls future as a professional rugby player was in doubt. Ulster weren't going to renew his contract! Now he's being mentioned in threads about Ireland.

What D Humphries says about Pienaar -
“We have been negotiating to retain Ruan since the summer and are delighted that he has chosen to extend his contract with us. He has been instrumental in the team’s success since joining us in 2010. He’s a true match winner and a total professional from his attitude in the gym, through the mentoring role he plays with younger players to the quality of performance he delivers consistently each week."
What Pienaar himself says -
"I've really enjoyed my first two seasons here when and the opportunity came to extend the deal I was very excited. I've made some good friends here and I've really enjoyed the rugby side. The people of Belfast have welcomed myself and my family with open arms and so it was an easy decision in the end."
Very important that someone working away from home is happy. A good lot of us (Regs) can testify to that.

Good. That's the way he should use it. Pure positivity and it seems like he is. From what you and other Ulster fans have said, it seems like Marshall needs this challenge to focus and improve him.
I credit Elsom doing this for O Brien. He set the high benchmark. McLaughlin was ahead of him not long ago.
