The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of Maxime Medard* above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

* While the other suggestion of Owens, Thomas and Hughie had merit, I couldn't face having Hughie's mug on the wall

Is that where you will be?
I take it you get a seat in the new stand to watch the game after or do you just keep eating through the match?
The tickets are for the old stand.
I will be in the New Stand just two boxes from the BBC. He had already secured four invites before his company decided to do the other thing. I am taking his brother and mate who were in Leicester with us. One place to be confirmed tomorrow. If it's free, do you want to join me?

Rava, that seems an excessive price for your son in laws hospitality table but its a big day in Ravenhill to be fair.
I see that Ferris and Sparky are sending Tweets to Kaino asking him to come to Ravenhill.

Too right it's excessive. Might be good value in a hotel with some after dinner entertainment as part of the package.
Regarding Kaino, I don't think he'll come but you never know. Apparently we are discussing terms with Roger Wilson for next season, presumably as replacement for Pedrie Wannenberg. Rumor has it he is going to France.

We don't need a 10. Paddy Jackson will have 20 Irish caps to his name come the 2015 WC. Simples.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Paddy Jackson is comfortably one of the most over rated players I have encountered.
I have seen him play in about 7 games but not once have I seen him deliver a performance that is anything remotely close to how highly he is rated.
Based purely on what I see and ignoring the hype I would have said McKinny was the better young Ulster pivot. I understand Jackson had a good game in the Aviva Stadium opener.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I've had time to check some rugby info out. England are going to get mashed in the 6N with that squad. Not enough nous or natural leadership in it. There was not enough leadership quality in the RWC squad; on and off the field.
Lancaster will not find a leader of men (or several come to that) for this tournament with a week long training camp. Just not enough guys in there who have scaled the heights at club level. Wood possibly, having reached a HC final. Considering the guys we had around in 2007 (and we were not a particularly good side then), this is one squad bereft of Sergeant Majors; let alone Generals. A steep learning curve awaits for many of England's squad.
Might beat Italy, but that's it.

Check out his try against the Ospreys 2 minutes into his first Ulster start. The boy's got talent.
Oh and our most overrated player is probably Craig Gilroy. Again great potential, but not as good as the majority of Ulster fans would have you believe.

Even though the two are of similar current ability, it's very obvious that Jackson has much more potential than McKinney.
I agree with you that the hype is excessive because people are talking about the potential he has. Potential means nothing if it isn't delivered upon.
But at the same time, you're completely wrong to be expecting a guy who turned 20 a few days ago to be living up to that potential right now. Bear in mind that right now he's younger than Sexton or O'Gara were when they made their professional debuts.

Blimey! Life n soul of the party eh Hound? One of the most exciting squads in ages and yet still, an EPS causes massive debate. I'm looking forward this years tourney more than any in recent times. The squad has had the same old tried and tested "leaders" before and we've been found wanting. Let the players new to the squad come on and show what they've got. England and SL have got nothing to lose...

It's great for the tournament though, Breadvan. Same with France: logic says that France, with a formidable squad and a sane manager, should be unbeatable - but we won't know until the tournament begins. Sport would be boring without unpredictability.

How do you think England naming such a fresh squad will affect Wales/Ireland selections (if at all). Will they be inclined to do the same now.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't see Wales making too many changes, Stag - firstly because we had a decent World Cup and secondly because we haven't got a load of players pushing for selection.

Wales have aready freshened up their squad and nearly made the WCF. They are fine. Kidneys idea of refreshing a squad depends on injuries. Its how most of the new players in his squad have been assembled. His hand was forced. He has asked Murphy to stay on stand-by FFS!
Unreal.

Morning all!! Stag: from what I hear Toulouse is very over-rated...apparently playing a rough side from Cardiff if much more fun, especially when it's likely to be your first game at tighthead for over a year!!

Would you not say the reason he has asked that is due to injury to Felix Jones and Brian O'Driscoll.

How do you think Scotland will go in the Six Nations, Asbo? There's a fair bit of young talent in your squad, especially at half back.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There are two massive matches in the first weekend between the home nations. Each team apart from Scotland could see a win providing them momentum needed to propel them to the title. Scotland could lift themselves to beat England only to lose to everybody else but Ireland. Whilst it's tempting to say Dublin on the 5th Feb holds the key to the Championship, France and England have new men in charge. If they have a bounce in their honeymoon period this could be a memorable Six Nations with Wales, Ireland, England and France all taking games off each other and setting up a super Saturday with the cup poised to be whisked from the MS to Twickers depending on the results. Ooh I could crush a grape!

Pepole may not like it, but this is so true imo.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2012/0112/1224310143676.html
THE IRISH lack self-esteem despite a veneer of “garrulous sociability and self-deprecating twaddle”, according to the latest edition of the Lonely Planet which has just been published.
The best-selling guide book says Irish people’s reputation for having an “easygoing, affable nature is justified”, but our reputation for friendliness is mostly a manifestation of our desire to chat – and our lack of self-esteem is our “dark secret”.
Thomond is going to love this and I tend to agree:
The book says “everything good about Ireland can be found in County Cork”.
God knows what they say about the Welsh, Scottish and English.
Good one for a discussion. How honest are people about their national traits? If a race wants to evolve, it has to be honest with itself and move on up. The Dutch have gone too far, imo.
