When i hear people saying they would not compete it is silly because they seem to be making the statement based around their current tv deals of a couple of million a year instead of the £70m Sky premier league deal. With the huge profile each club has worldwide they would be attracting top players before long and be very near the top of the league, seriously does anyone think they would suddenly get that huge injection of cash and still keep the same players they currently have.
Biggest in Scotland does not equal biggest in the world.
I still thinnk they'd do fine in the Prem and after 3-4 seasons to get used to the better quality and more competitive football as well as the increased revenues I'd expect them to be challenging for Europe. But challenging for the title I cannot envisage without some serious angel investment.

Celtic and Ranger are massive clubs with more supporters clubs and associations worldwide than any other clubs in Britain.
After Man Utd they would be 2nd and 3rd biggest supported clubs in the prem and with the higher level of exposure the Premiership would bring they would just get bigger and bigger.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool all have millions of fans through Europe, Asia and Africa. After Man Utd they would be 2nd and 3rd biggest supported clubs in the prem
Not denying Celtic and Rangers are major clubs in UK, but in rest of Europe, North America and Asia?
They would be at best 5th/6th most supported of British clubs.

Having lots of supporters doesn't make you rich. Everton are a well supported club in English terms and haven't got a pot to urinate in. Unless you have a rich, and I mean mega rich owner you would be lucky to finish top eight, regardless of how many real fans and plastic fans and worldwide 'supporter' clubs you have.

can't believe I agreeing with Josiah for once....
having lots of little ex-pat supporters clubs around the place is NOTHING compared to the level of exposure and support the top EPL sides have, particularly United and Liverpool with Chelsea, Arsenal and soon Citeh to follow.
Am not denying they'll be up there, and adhead of the majority of the EPL, but United have been building their profile internationally for 20 years. OF won't achieve that overnight just by being in the EPL and on the telly a bit more. Domestic support is huge but having travelled in Asia (and had friends do in the Middle East) and Africa, I've never seen a kid running around in an OF shirt or knock-offs being sold in the shops.

Top Hat, I doubt many people in Asia have even heard of the OF, it seems to me this "global support" are just a load of expats or Yanks with a supposed Irish/Scots heritage. I.e they once ate shortbread or drank a McEwans Export.
Clearly not contributing to the club in anyway, or Rangers wouldn't have less money than your local tramp.

TopHat, we can agree on most subjects probably, maybe should avoid the subjects of ManU however haha.

I dont think either side (rangers especially) would be welcomed into the English set up. Their fans have long been associated with bigotry and sectarianism which thankfully is not an issue in the English game and Im sure their would be no rush to introduce it. It seems a regular occurance that fans from both clubs, but particulalry rangers, cause trouble in away matches both domestically and abroad. And who can forget what happened in Manchester a couple of years ago?

Deary Me, stones and greenhouses come to mind!
Could this be an English person with an airbrushed memory.
I do not think that any Scottish national or league team has ever been banned from European competitions.
Rangers actions in Manchester were dreadful, but the City sent a message to Glasgow to come and party, big screens etc with no idea of the numbers who would take up the offer. This resulted in a total organisation meltdown by police and council.

For me this is all a non-starter.
You cannot have the best of both worlds i.e. all the support, finances and opportunities being a big club in a relatively small country that love football - then expect to go play in a bigger more affluent league and take all their tv money.

Celtic would finish around 7th behind Liverpool, Utd, Citeh, Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea.
Rangers would finish mid table (around 10-12th) behind Stoke, Celtic, Everton and Fulham.
SOmething like that,.

Considering half their teams are good championship players, in that division.

Re: How would Celtic and Rangers do in the Prem?
Ive always thought you can compare Welsh and Scottish football, put Cardiff and Swansea in the Welsh Premiership and only 2 teams can win it each season. Like what happens in the Scottish league now.
On the other hand let the Scottish compete in the English Premiership and you would get a similar situation you have with the Welsh teams now. If Rangers were in their current position they'd probably be relegated or near the bottom. Celtic might be pushing mid table, though in all honesty their about on the same level as Aston Villa or Everton. Though either club could easily turn into a Leeds or West Ham as well.
