First topic message reminder :

OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty Tumbleweed .

Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England kiss ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads. warning

So I will begin, An article in the Western Mail today pointed out how England are copying Gatlands youthful approach with a squad that has an average age of 25 and 428 caps between them.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/rugbynation/rugby-news/2012/01/12/analysis-new-look-england-follow-youthful-wales-lead-91466-30105333/

Wales probable squad (once you have taken out Shane and Wellies from the World cup squad with their probable replacements) lines up at the same average age and about 820 caps between them. England are copying Wales' approcach but are way behind. Clearly all things point to a wales victory in HQ this year. Wales

Please may I emphasise that this is a bickering and banter thread, whilst mild wumming and banter are allowed please try not to stray over the line of decency.

Any way on a serious note i thought six nations didn't matter any more to England?
England find it all to easy and after one Grand Slam in the period of 1996-2012 they see the opposition so as weak they talked about joining the tri nations.

Lets not forget only world cups matter according to the English lads?

They ALWAYS peak world cup year i was always told on the old 606.

Hey EW still awaiting the link or the authors name, Ive been to a few sites checked a few periodicals but I can find no mention of Iceni DNA tests from their graves?

I would postulate a theory based upon my own knowledge though. The Iceni nobility relocated after 60 AD to silurian territory. It was either that or become slaves after the Romans had won the Battle of Wattling street.

I would still be interested in seeing this alledged article though despite the sarcasm. Ironically enough I went to the school Where the TV series of Mr Chips was made in the 80s. Doh

And after two grandslams since 1978 Wales think that everyone else is weak and will brush all aside.

Knackered knees- I think you mean 2 very lucky Grand slams, when the NH powerhouses of England and France were in the Doldrums.

If Wales win this year they will only be 3 behind England for the same period.

If the OP were The Wales vs England unacceptable bickering thread, 2012 would I be on solid legal ground if I joined in? Just checking for the next World Cup. Whistle

England have Wales both have lengthening injury lists. Who has the better depth and remaining talent to plug those gaps?

At least your not making that up like some of your other posts!(If you dont link it it didnt happen)

Still a rather poor attempt though given the records of Wales and England. 10 years dominance in the 90s against a century of failure preceding it and since 2000 how many grand slams is it?

Typoes- Still loving the psuedo -intellectualism re the posts on here, but what you seem to understand is that i'm not one of your students (If anyone really is) so keep ploughing that Furrow Mr Chips and good luck to you, after all even Walter Mitty's can enjoy themselves on this thread. laughing

By the way England have won 1 GS and won the 6 nations since 2000, and even though Wales were Gods gift to Rugby they still have less GS than England after as you say 100 years of dominance, so why is that ? Some dominance.

England have also, (have i mentioned this before) Won a World cup, which trounces and slays any Welsh claim to parity and until that happens Wales will be in their customary place, below England. Ha,ha, !! see you Soon chippy!

England squad to be ravaged by injury leading to Twelvetrees being called up at 12. This will have catstrophic results for the match as the meeting of 2 irresistable forces (Twelvetrees and North) will injure all other players on the pitch. The head to head will be won by Twelvetrees 21-20 after North scores 4 tries but fails to convert any. Twelevetrees to have kicked 7 penalties, the last one from 60m. Unfortunately England will be investigated and later disqualified from the 6N for fielding 36 instead of 15. North, exhausted by his struggle, will then go on to lose the remaining games meaning Wales finish bottom. Welsh fans to claim a successful 6 nations as the finished above England, ENglish fans to point out that this was only because they were disqualified and that they actually won the match. Ireland to win what is viewed by both the English and the Welsh as a devalued 6N.

Ireland may well win the 6ns this year, but no way will they win a Grand Slam.

Like you said a devalued 6ns at that.

Cymrologon- Sorry but i'm not even going to acknowledge that, as 'World 7's champions is like saying world tiddlywinks champs, or Bog snorkling supremo's.

No its got to be a Bone-fide full strength game such as Football, Rugby or Cricket, BEFORE WE CAN TAKE IT SERIOUSLY thumbsup

By the way, have i mentioned by any chance that England were the inaugeral World 7's champs ?
Err, no, i haven't as i would be too ashamed to bring it to any discussion!! Ha,ha,

Yes you are to be applauded by the achievements of your sports people and I'm also immensely proud that such a small country as Wales is able to compete with much bigger countries.

Fortunatly my students have the nous to understand that anything worth achieving takes time and effort. They also understand that to fabricate evidence rather than do the hard work demonstrates an intellect only slightly higher than that of a rabbit. It does explain why you made up evidence though.

As for calling me chips well as I pointed out above to be compared to a character(however fictional) who dedicates his life to the students in his care is not an insult its a compliment. Robert Donats performance certainly inspired my ambitions in academia as a child. However from your posts I figure in a past life you were one of those who forced socrates to take poison. I would rather be Mr Chips than a potato thumbsup

Oh just as an aside there have been quite a lot of welsh world champions. Athletics, Swimming, Snooker, even cricket remember so your not even correct on that. C'mon at the moment your report reads,

English Warrior has struggled with the demands of wumming this term. He must try harder if he is to keep up with the rest of the class. In paticular he must stop trying to make things up it makes him look silly. D -

English Warrior pick up an Atlas go to the world map and draw a triangle from Newport to LLanelli along the bottom then meet the tip of of the triangle at Breacon, now take a long hard look at that triangle then contemplate how that little area beat the richest rugby country with the largest player pool in the world "England " in their last meeting and also progressed further in the World Cup.

If i was English i would bury my head in my hands with shame and avoid confrontation with any Welsh fans in fear of absolute embarrassment,
its like Mike Tyson bragging about losing a boxing match to a six stone amateur.
I see why you feel the need to have a go at us because we intimidate you.

Tycroes/Chips - Well, where do i start, are you actually comparing yourself to the Robert Donat version of the 30's, because i was thinking more of you as the Peter 'o'Toole version made in 68 or so, because the Robert Donat version is way too high for you to aspire to. so lets not have any false visions of yourself, if you please. By the way have you A WIFE like Greer Garson , or ahem, Pet Clarke!! Smile

How are the students by the way and do pray tell what it is that you teach, because at the present count 5 members of my family are educators and hence i would love to know which Establishment you grace with your prescence ( or bedroom,Snigger) they might have heard of you and obviously, if not (likely) then being such a force for Greatness in the 'Blackboard jungle' of your reputation. Part time lecturer for undergrads and also moonlight A/AS level in Swansea. only got a 2.1 from Surrey but I have a MA from Bristol and am working on my phd. My MA theses was on the influence of bardic poetry as propaganda during the wars of the roses so I would class myself as a late medievalist. My phd is actually looking at History on televison So Im creating a database of programmes from the 50s onwards and breaking that down into different genre and period assessing the trends in Historical TV starting with people like Mortimer Wheeler and bringing that up until 2000. Nothing post digital switchover.

As for Donat, well a mans reach shlould exceed his grasp else whats a heaven for? I would like to remind you it was you who compared me to chips since Donats version is clearly the best that was the one I went for. Mind I will take O Toole over the Roy Marsden version although I enjoyed clunes.

My ex looked nothing like either of the above.

Tycroes- As a History Graduate myself with a FIRST Very Happy i would be more than interested in your articles but why, as an Englishman ?

Love anything to do with Mortimer Wheeler, and would love to read some of your medievalist work (not plagarised i hope) Wink

As for 'Chips' well i have to tell you i'd forgotten the Roy marsden version, but still unfortunately think your Grasp has far exceeded your reach if you consider yourself the Welsh version of Robert Donat, who i am informed was of Polish descent and whose first language was not English. Surprising that, and i wondered if English was your first language as you are researching the 'Bardic' influence on the Wars of the Roses.

To be quite frank i didn't even know that there was such an influence at that time. Well you live and learn, Oh, well, maybe not you, as a great educator, but i sometimes do. See you soon!! thumbsup

Tycroe- 40+ pages is a mere starter for me and i will PM you as soon as i can. Cheers.

P.S. What part of Hitlers life are you teaching those poor beknighted AS students as this is more my era, although i like any era, the 2nd WW especially the Eastern front and the political ideologies of both sides are what fascinate me. By the way did my dissertation on Hitlers 'Anti- Bolshevik crusade/ war of territorial aggression'.

What is your opinion of A.J.P. Taylor and is he included on your TV Historians ? Anyhow, will pm you as soon as possible.

AJP was awesome if a bit left wing in approach for me. Glas if you want the same info on Tycroes RFC pm me as well, It mentions a couple of Ammanford RFC players like Ike Fowler.

Anyway back to bickering before this thread turns into a history debate.

England - Rubbish.

PSW we also had a bowls world champion and he was definitely welsh.

Tycroes- I hate to give you ammo for your sporting achievements, but Wales have had a World champ, who was outstanding and put everyone else in the shade, an architypal Welsh product for the sporting world to envy, a 28 stone mountain of a man, not muscle, mainly Beer belly, called Leighton Rees, who cut a swathe through the World of darts in the late 70's (and lived with his Mam).

Yes this product of Wales was the Blueprint that many in the 'Principality' have sought to emulate and few have succeeded. What a man, and what a welshman, who'd thrash you at darts, if his mother would let him out!!

Now thats a Man, thats a WELSHMAN!! Wink

I have been to the above mentioned building society several times and not once did I notice a dart board in there.

Tycroe- It has to be a sport, because that Great English Arrows man, called Phil 'The power' Taylor said that if it was a pastime/ Hobby then you cannot be taxed for it, but only a 'Sportsman' can be taxed for what he earns, therefore it is a sport, and also because without it Wales would be without their 'Worldchamp'. thumbsup

England has produced many world champions and so has Scotland and Wales and I'm sure that you feel as I do extremely proud of their achievements whatever side of the border they happened to be born on they have put Great Britain on the world stage.
