The Wales vs England bickering thread, 2012 - PONIES ALLOWED!
First topic message reminder :
OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty .
Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads.
So I will begin, An article in the Western Mail today pointed out how England are copying Gatlands youthful approach with a squad that has an average age of 25 and 428 caps between them.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/rugbynation/rugby-news/2012/01/12/analysis-new-look-england-follow-youthful-wales-lead-91466-30105333/
Wales probable squad (once you have taken out Shane and Wellies from the World cup squad with their probable replacements) lines up at the same average age and about 820 caps between them. England are copying Wales' approcach but are way behind. Clearly all things point to a wales victory in HQ this year.

Please may I emphasise that this is a bickering and banter thread, whilst mild wumming and banter are allowed please try not to stray over the line of decency.

The Welsh overconfident and arrogant, sure and smug of their teams infallability!!! What better recipe for a great 6 nations for the rest of us, as we watch the confidence and smugness drain away, and the blame game start from all those Welsh fans who were talking their team up as World champs in waiting. I would like to say that the Welsh fans would lose their arrogance, but hey, theres a limit, you can't have it all!!

Pontylad- You can't have it all, as some very insightful person once wrote, but let me pull you up on one thing, England as 'World champs in waiting'
Excuse me? How can it be in Waiting ? we've already done it, and Wales haven't , so at least get your facts right, like that great bloke who posted before you. Dear, dear me,
'we've won the cup, we've won the cup, ee ay addio we've won the cup'!
Oh, and Wales haven't!! Cheers!!

Re: The Wales vs England bickering thread, 2012 - PONIES ALLOWED!
lets put it context though, i was just hitting puberty when England won the world cup.....
....i really hope this isnt gonna be a 1966 type of world cup where no-one stops harking on about it even though it has nearly no reference to current events.
You guys won a world up, you were the best team in the world, amazing, genuinely, well done, no-one can take that away.
but that was 9 years ago.

Re: The Wales vs England bickering thread, 2012 - PONIES ALLOWED!
History can't be rewritten.
England were the best in the world in 2003 and became the most successful professional era northern hemisphere international team (possibly the best ever team, with members who were probably the best ever in their respective positions), attaining a dominance over the southern hemisphere and winning the world cup. There's no reason to not still talk about it. It is still relevant as it reminds us that it is possible. There is nothing wrong with looking at the positives that came out of that, and trying to find the ingredients that are missing now.
Rewriting history to pretend it didn't happen merely because thinking about it is unpalatable for European rivals seems petty to me.

I never rated the 70's Welsh team, apart from Gareth Edwards it was pretty average.
The fact that they never beat a poor All Blacks team proves that.

Heh, poor All Blacks team indeed, so poor that the Barbarians and Lions' respective wins over them are dismissed as nothing special- oh wait.
You don't see many Welsh posters bringing up the 70's even as a last resort to turn to in debate, the fact that you're the one who brought it up this time shows quite a familiar pattern...

Pattern of English posters deluding themselves into turning to the old dogma that Welsh posters always bring up the 70's. We've moved on and so should you
PSW...shut up
Seriously though, moving the posts a little aren't we? So a Welsh poster decided to mention the fact that it's the anniversary of a famous try from the 70's in a game that involved Welsh players but not the Welsh side. Nothing wrong there...is there?

Indeed, the pressing issues of how long Gatland will take before dismissing bedfellow Henson and how Hook gets in ahead of Jones and Tovey when he's playing to a lower level and isn't even available for full time Polish freezing unlike the other two.

If Wales don't win the 6 nations this year what does it mean?
France and England are re building squads and coaching set ups, so neither would expect to win the Slam
Ireland is missing BOD, plus the rest of the golden generation are getting on a bit.
Scotland and Italy won't win it., sorry but you won’t.
The pressure is really on Wales to win, if they don't will Gatts and Co be given the boot, as that would be a huge failure given the circumstances.
