The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Millennium Stadium Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has teleported itself inside Millenium Stadium this week to see if the men in red can manage a Slam. There's also TVs showing the other 6N matches, the U20s and Womens' matches, Super XV, the "Classic" match and LV= Cup action.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Mervyn Davies and Jock Hobbs above the bar!

Morning all.
Happy Birthday Rava, there's an unopened bottle of 16yo Black Bush on my shelf (it should be in behind the Glenmorange and the Balvenie)*, help yourself.
I met up with Hobo last night for a quick pint, then had to really race down to netball, I literally made it on court 30 seconds before the opening whistle.
After 8 seasons, 4 semi-final losses and 2 final losses we've finally gotten a title! And we won in style, 25-0 (the other team were docked 5 goals for fielding an ineligible player, but I'm claiming it as a "shut-out" ). To make things more impressive I came off covered in blood, just before the end a shot missed and the opposition shooter and I jumped for the rebound and managed to pinball flip the ball straight into my glasses, which left an impressive cut on the bridge of my nose.
*I can post a picture of my spirits shelf tonight for the doubters

Fascinating article Lucky.
I always thought the birth of Rock & Roll was a few years later or in the late 50's...around '57 but it just goes to show these movements are forming years before they become mainstream.
So the "big bang" for disco may have been late 60s or early 70s then - but it wasn't properly heard until '76-77?

Same with the origins of punk predating its 'proper' emergence in '76.

Also the same with movements in art and architecture.
Some say the "skyscraper" was born in the 1850's (invention of the passenger elevator), others say it was the 1870's (economic boom times - demand for more office space)... and yet others believe it was in the 1880's (steel/concrete composite frame with the other two elements combined).

And the first album with 'psychedelic' in its title was by the 13th Floor Elevators!

Was just thinking of early Pink Floyd stuff - 1967? and also Hendrix's album "Electric Ladyland" was way ahead of it's time. You can hear bits of The Police, Dire Straits... and a few other 80's sounds in there - just a couple of bars but enough to create 'your own sound'. (I believe)

'The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators' was released in 1966 (if not 1965) but the 'sounds' aren't particularly psychedelic, although the lyrics are. I love Pink Floyd's early stuff - that's full of psychedelic sounds!

Yes, I think 13 floors was the maximum they could build for a while (for about about 20 years - 1860-1880). At first, tenants all wanted the ground or second floor (less walking up stairs and closer to the street so people could see their advertising)...then somebody realised that the views over the city had some value and big signs up the top could be seen for miles... so the rents began to rise the higher up you went. With concrete & steel; the sky seemed the limit. When I was in Asia - they were very sensitve about the 13th floor - and still are. You went from 12th floor to 14th floor... or used the 13th floor as a Plant Room.

You wearing your Napoleonic hat in the Court today, Glas?
Why not give the perpetrators a Gallic squint... just to see their reaction?
(Then when there's an adjournment... lean against the wall wearing your Wales jersey....with a deadly serious look on your face)

Thats true as well Lucky.
Both of them have won Heineken Cups and been capped a lot so I suppose on paper they appear semi-decent players.
I think also that Munster at its height was more of a "brand" then say Leinster are at the moment.

Plus the whole Munster v New Zealand game, the Haka and all that. Munster beating Australia. Munster for years used to just play tests against USA as preseason games. and the whole "we cant be beaten at Thomond Park" thing got a lot of attention in England.
Plus the Scarlets are terrified of us. 14 and counting.

I remember the first time they gave a PowerPoint presentation at the Scarlets. The players were terrified, thought it was witchcraft and Nigel Davies was lucky to escape with his life.

I think it could be a good move for TOL and for us to be fair. He's a decent enough player who has stagnated a bit, but hopefully a move might kickstart him again.

Stag - what happened to O'Leary? 2-3 years ago he was thought of very highly.
As for Buckley perhaps he will learn how to scrummage in the Prem

So the big stories are that O'Leary is off to London Irish (an actual Irish player at London Irish? Surely some mistake?) and Jerry Flannery has retired due to injury (goodnight sweet prince).
Thats sad about Flannery but I think we all knew it was coming.
