First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has teleported itself inside Millenium Stadium this week to see if the men in red can manage a Slam. There's also TVs showing the other 6N matches, the U20s and Womens' matches, Super XV, the "Classic" match and LV= Cup action.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Mervyn Davies and Jock Hobbs above the bar!

I tell ya folks, you don’t know your born in the UK with those deals on your phone.

I don’t know why but Ireland is one of the most expensive places in Europe to own a phone. I have a good deal, and it’s 250 text, 250 mins, 2GB data, free O2 to O2 calls, €45 a month. And that’s a GOOD deal!!

Shocked

Well my phone did cost £100 (got some money taken off with my phone fund so woo!)

Are you paying your phone off through your contract as apposed to having bought it outright? might be why it's that much?

That’s just the plan I’m on. I could be on an iPhone or a HTC or whatever, the tariff costs that no matter what. The 200 quid I stumped up, up front was based on the phone I got.

Not sure how it works over there, (I’m just shooting the breeze at this stage, not ranting Smile ) but over here you get a phone which costs €600 quid, for €200 or maybe for free, but then you have to sign up to an 18 or 24 month contract, so you’re paying the full price of it back no matter what.

Dreamer the more you pay up front the less you will pay monthly. How long is your contract for and will you get an upgrade?

I hope the new phone doesn't lose peoples numbers like your old one Wink

the package would have been £10.50 a month, regardless of what I paid for the phone, am pretty sure I had to pay for it out right anyways.

Tis a 12 month contract, so can get an upgrade after 10 months if I like.

just figured I'm spending £15-20 a month on pay as you go, may as well get more for less this way.

Ha god know where numbers disappear to on my phone, going to have to write down all my old phone numbers tonight, going to take me aaages to put them onto my new one.

Best way is to put your new number up in FB and ask your friends to text/phone. Just save their details to your phone then.

Bought the wife a new nother car (well it new to her I suppose, I sold her old one in November and she's been walking everywhere). A fiat zincshedunto. This hard on the heels of a cheap smart phone rip off after she washed my old phone that she'd been using in January. She's still got her contract since the late 90's. She does well to spend a pound a month as long as she doesn't send any texts (they are 80p each). I'm well generous me thumbsup

Roger Wilson has been signed so he would be a direct replacement and we have Ali Birch coming through but he's a 7. Back row is a bit bare. Young guy called Iain Henderson had a very good U20 Six Nations at lock but has played most of his Rugby up to now as an 8. He's in the squad for the weekend though I don't think he will travel. There was talk that Falloon might be on his way as well so we could be on the lookout for a good NIQ Openside. Warburton available?

In all honesty though, I'd just play some of your academy players, see how they go.

From the ethicist Professor Albert Spencer:

There is a growing belief that sport, rather than encouraging moral value and spiritual values, promotes the antithesis: man's inevitable fall from grace through egotism, cynicism, nihilism, an obsessive focus on money and a win at all costs mentality that fosters disrespect for competitors and society. There are frequent news stories about athletes who violate both civil and moral behavioural codes through alcohol and drug abuse, gambling, theft, promiscuity, violence and even murder

Aye I'm okay Munsty, head's still all over the place, but am applying for jobs every night so we shall see. Plus the sun is shining so that always makes me feel better. Got to top up on all the vitamin D.

And yeah the game was okay, think I was too emotionally charged to enjoy it properly, but I've watched it back lots so can appreciate it more now Smile

I still see that sport on a whole encourages moral values and spiritual values, all the negatives it talks about, sure you see it a bit, but for the main part I would see it as simply not being true, definitely no where near what the majority view of what sport should be/is.

Corinthian spirit is incompatible with professional sport. However 'professional' in terms of sportsmen does not seem to have the same connotation as in business life. It's time the governing bodies take charges of bringing the 'profession' rather than the game or sport in disrepute. To do that they need to reform from the male dominated, misogynistic, cliques they have become into administrative bodies worthy of the name. Oh yes and if any rugby player behaves like a The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Millennium Stadium Rugby Pub - Page 17 3559488474 he should have to answer to his own fans.

Any chance you could still make an appearance in Chester when you come over?

Dreamer,

Any exciting jobs or places?

The course I'm on may be making me more cynical towards sport but I certainly feel watching it, I would definitely be more on the side of Spencer's views.

I applied for an admin role at London Zoo. I could work near penguins! (totally not the only reason I applied for that one Whistle)

But no, I wouldn't term any of them exciting jobs, or places, I mean is England exciting? Wink

I actually think for the most part the phrase exciting job is pretty much an oxymoron.

ooh actually, forgot I applied for a sports researcher job too, so not exciting really, but I'd bloody love that one. There wasn't a closing date for applications to go in though, so got no clue when/IF I'll ever hear back from that one Headscratch

Not hopeful on hearing back from any of them really, not whe you consider how many people are applying for each job, but then if I don't apply I'll never be in with a chance.

What are you going to be doing out in Dubai and Tanzania?

What's the sports researcher job? You're right about applying. As Wayne Gretzky, the great Canadian hockey player, said, you'll miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

In Dubai, I'm going to see one of my older and best friends for 4 days, then going to Tanzania for 5 weeks teaching in an international primary school.

It's about researching sponsorship, media and broadcasting deals across all sports and how it affects the global sports market etc. Just things like that. Acutally sounds a bit boring when I write it like that, but I love all sport so being able to research it all, reckon I'd really enjoy it.

Teaching out there? Munsty that's amazing! That's such a great opportunity, I reckon you'll love it.

No it sounds interesting to me. We've done a bit of stuff on that this year in sociology and it is fascinating. We're blessed here in that we have two very good and engaging lecturers, especially our Welsh, working class, former army, foul mouthed, chip on the shoulder lecturer.

Yeah it should be fantastic. When I got the opportunity, I knew there was no way I could turn it down.

Munsty, tá suim beag agat san NFL, an bhfuilim ceart? Ar chuala tú faoí Bounty Gate? Is rud a tá bhaint le morality agus rudaí mar sin. Seo rud a scriobh mé air. http://www.sportpulse.net/content/bounty-gate-story-new-orleans-defence-2998

It was Irish week last week and I didn't type any Irish messages in here so I felt I had to! Basically, I comment on Munsty's quote and say how an issue unfolding in America at the moment deals a bit with the topic. The issue I'm talking about is similar to what happened in the Northampton V Leicester game last Sunday. Except this one involved money! Some might be interested in it anyway.

Paying a fella 10 grand to knock another player out of the game? You don't see a problem with that? Seriously? The Saints defence have injured a lot of guys and have ended at least one QBs career.

The Saints were known for their late and illegal hits from the year they won the Super Bowl. If they are fair hits grand. But if you look at the NFC Championship game, you will see a lot of late, low and illegal hits. Look at this vid, largely late and just cheap shots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPZCVCZNc50
