Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
I have to admit that I too and perplexed at the Bengals pick... I've never heard of the bloke!
Interested to see what arizona_tom makes of the Cardinals QB situation now that he has pick Von Miller.
Targeting one in the later rounds or waiting for FA whenever it happens??

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
Sheppard had 70 assisted tackles and 48 solo tackles including 4 sacks in 13 games last season, and 8 tackles in LSU's 41-24 win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.
I did overlook Miller, I was reading a mock draft earlier and forgot that he wasn't taken in this draft.
Although I may be a tad bias towards Kelvin as an LSU fan.

I am sure the Bengals will be placated once Fa opens up and they can sign some big names, as in the Radio City Music hall the Benglas fans are

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
To be fair, Miller is perfect for a 3-4 defence as an OLB due to his pass rushing skills similar to DeMarcus Ware or Clay Matthews, the Bengals run a 4-3 so might be a bit wasted as I don't see him being able to fit into their defence as a DE.
Still think the pick is nuts!

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
To be honest crazy_dave23 it was difficult to avoid Gabbert at this position, but i believe the coaching staff see potential in there two youn qbs hall and skelton and would look to add a veteran ideally bulger.
Miller for me is the second best player in the draft (after peterson) but he fills a huge need and would fit into the new defensive co-ordinaters 3-4 defence perfectly.

What on earth. Sheppard isnt going to sniff the the 2nd round let alone the 4th overall pick. At least try to keep this realistic

Do you think that Hall and Skelton are going to be good enough in the next couple of years? Legitimate question from a 49er but if the Cards see the same problems as last year what are the chances that Fitzgerald will try to force a trade. If I was Bill Belichick I would be offering a few draft picks next year for Fitz

No bambamwillis i agree i don't think hall (especially) or skelton will be ready 4 next season. They gained valuable experience this year and in some games shone, but the team will need to picl up a bulger, mcnabb, kolb and maybe even VY or palmer to be competitive

With the seventh pick, the 49ers select Patrick Peterson CB LSU
(if this happened in the real draft , hard to pass over Gabbert, but Peterson is something else)

derbyblue, i personally would have selected gabbert (as i dont think the two youngsters will be good enough), but i think the franchise does believe in the two guys and would probably select the better player in Patrick Peterson

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
Can't believe nobody waited for me??!! I was checking all last week till Thursday and we were still waiting for the first pick. It gets to the weekend where most normal people are sat outside in the blazing sunshine(i happened to be on a stag in Blackpool) and all you weirdos are sat in front of your computers doing a mock draft. Now we end up with a ridiculous pick for the Bengals- well, i'm not doing Seattle now- taking mi ball home!!!!!

I'm not happy that we didn't wait guys... We have loads of time until the real draft.
I'd be happy with Pekchenko choosing to re-do his pick with the players left. This does not include the players taken after your pick btw, you were late after all :P
Gabbert maybe?

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
With what is left i would think they will go for Gabbert. It really does look like Carson Palmer is gone and they could potentially address this through free agency, but that is a big chance to take.Had the other picks not taken place i would perhaps have gone for one of the top DT/DE positions and even AJ Green at receiver with the impending loss of T.O/C.O, but with Gabbert being the most pro-ready QB, i can't see them risking passing up on him. No point in getting a top receiver if there is nobody to throw to him.I pick Gabbert

We waited 3 days, Glasgowhibs was given two. Unfortunately we've ended up with a pretty poor pick for the bengals, unlike pr4wn's pick for the panthers.Pekchenko wrote:Can't believe nobody waited for me??!! Controversy I like it .. Just like a draft should be . In my defence I would have loved to be out in the sun but I have exams this week! So are you picking Gabbert for the Bengals? Tbh I wouldn't have any problem with picking again if you want to start from Peckchenko's pick again

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
I think it's only fair that we let the Bengals have Gabbert. We were still able to keep things moving and Pekchenko got his pick.
The reason glasgowhibs only got 2 days was because he hadn't logged on in over a week before I picked for him. I could see that Pekchenko had last logged in on Wednesday so it was only a matter of time before he came back.
So, the Bengals get Gabbert and the Titans are on the clock.

Weirdos?
Just because it's sunny doesn't mean everyone locks their computers in a cupboard, and not everyone has a trip planned every weekend.
As for the pick, I don't think it's as ridiculous as everyone's making it out to be, I'm just trying to make it interesting, who said we have to stick to a plan or we can't draft who we want for the different teams needs.
Plus, as already pointed out at least 3 times you had THREE days, it's moved a lot faster since the first pick was made.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
With regards to the Titans pick, does anyone think they might go WR such as Julio Jones. I know most mocks seem to be looking towards DT, but they obviously felt the need to go for a big play receiver in Randy Moss who didn't work out.Obviously a new head coach will mean probably a different mindset and with Dareus and Fairley off the board, are the next lot good enough?

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
You still have some quality ends there like Watt, Jordan, Bowers etc so I think they might still go d-line but it's all up to Grizzly!
They also might be losing Babin to free-agency. He had a huge year last season and he'll be asking for a ton of money once negotiations can happen.

That logic can be used for anything if you'd waited an extra few hours Glasgowhibs could have made his pick, but I've not seen you offer him a chance to repick but its a bit late now.Pr4wn wrote:I think it's only fair that we let the Bengals have Gabbert. Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
If it plays out like this I can see the titans looking to trade down or go BPA. They would probably take a Qb if possible and as the DTs are gone maybe They take a DE such as Quinn or Bowers. I think their DE Babin is a free agent anyway. WR is a possibility but they have Britt, Gage and Washington, nothing special I know but they have more pressing needs

I think they would have taken gabbert but that options not there anymore. They could do with a quality receiver, this would help in trying to attract whichever free agent quarterback they try to trade for.

As I said mate, I'm away for 3 weeks and haven't gone deep into the draft, and certainly not the Titans picks !
The way I saw it they had 2 glaring needs, QB and Corner, two best QBs are off the board and so is the best corner.
They actually have an OK set of receivers, just no-one to throw to damn thing to them....

I like the Quinn pick, Jim Washburn, the highly touted D-Line coach, has left; and pro bowl DE Jason Babin looks likely to follow in FA. Plus you can never have too many pass rushers with Peyton Manning and the high powered Texans offense in the division.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
I'll give my opinion on the top 8 so far since I'm bored.
#1.Panthers - Cam Newton QB Auburn
-If you don't have a franchise QB these days, you won't be winning a SB. He probably needs to sit for a season or two behind a solid veteran, but for me Newton has much more upside than Gabbert.
#2.Broncos - Marcel Dareus DT Alabama
-Personally he's my 2nd favorite player in the draft, and #1 for most and fills a need up front in Denver.
#3.Bills - Nick Fairley DT Auburn
-Maybe somewhat of a reach, given the way Fairley's stock has dropped recently, interesting to see how he'd fit into Buffalo's 3-4 scheme. Personally I'd have taken Von Miller here.
#4.Benglas. Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri
-Even if Palmer does return, the numbers don't really reflect that he struggled somewhat last season. This frees up the Bengals to shop Palmer.
#5.Cards Von Miller OLB Texas A&M
-For me this pick has to be either Miller or Peterson, I can't see the Cards going with a rookie signal caller; they need a QB thats ready now.
#6.Browns AJ Green WR Georgia
-A no brainer with the Browns really lacking any type of playmaking ability on offense.
#7.49rs Patrick Peterson CB LSU
-The last time I heard a player would be so low risk to select was Aaron Curry... Still, Peterson is #1 on some peoples boards, and is excellent value at #7.
#8 Titans Robert Quinn DE North Carolina

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
Since Dallas crashed out of the 2010 NFL season I have done about a 15 different mocks with a differenet selection each time, I have had at 1 stage or another Prince Amukara, Cam Jordan, JJ Watt, Nick Costanzo, Nick Fairley Marcel Dareus Patrick Peterson) I am aware that as the weeks have gone the last 3 players stock has risen so they wont be there at #9.
However the Cowboys 3 main needs are both OL &DL as well as Safety, whilst Dallas are weak in the Secondary it's not at CB they have struggled but FS, as Alan Ball who is a CB by trade played there last season and it showed as being our main weakness, as the Safety class is weak this year it would be a reach to take a CB with the #9 pick which leavesa Lineman.
A upgrade at DE would improve our Defence by our long way as several D lineman were going through the motions last season. However, in the last month I have come round to drafting a OT in the 1st both Romo & eventually Kitna were knocked out the season by injuries due to our weak line, with Adams moving on last season most thought Free would struggle but he was ranked the 5th best OT in the NFL last year, it was Columbo the RT who struggled with age and injuries and also the lack of strong running game gave us little option,. when Dallas won x3 SB in 4 years most people think of Aikman, Irvin and Smith yes they were the names but it was the huge OL that dominated that allowed these players to shine, so a pick at OT and a return to our glory days of the 90's is for me the sensible choice build the Line protect the QB, eveything else will follow, plus its a deep draft on the DL so when the middle of the draft plays out quality DLineman with 1st round grades will be there when Dallas next pick at #40

I like the Smith pick. And I've been hearing how highly they rate him in Dallas.
