Evening everyone
I'm currently on the hunt for any raffle prizes to help raise funds to kit out my 10s team, if in anyway you feel you could help us please let me know.
It can be anything from a tin of beans to whatever you want it to be.
All prizes would be appreciated and some will even appear on Ebay at a later date to which i will try and get around to posting links to.
Thanks

Whilst I do think that London Welsh would get their backsides handed to them on a plate in the Premiership, I do actually want them to come up, simply because I don't like the fact that a team can be saved from relegation because the team who wins the division below do not have a suitable ground to play on.

Pete London Welsh have got themselves a sugar daddy I think - they'll make a lot of signings! I played for them in 2-3 games when I was 21-22 - amazed how far they have come!

Can't see them making enough signings to be competitive to be honest. The majority of their best players this season have been loanees or dual registered players from Wasps or London Irish.

I agree Pete. Also means glos will not be in a fight for relegation. Welsh have a lot of big cheeses from the city investment bank types so imagine they will find some cash

On Radio 5 Live this morning John Inverdale and guests were discussing todays Saracens v Northampton Saints game. His guests were Jason Leonard (JL), Keith Wood (KW), Scott Quinnell (SQ) and Austin Healey (AH).
(JI): So chaps, huge game today at Vicarage Road, and plenty has been said about both packs, so let's start there. Which side have got the upper hand in the forwards.
(AH): Not my area of expertese so I'll let the others get into this one, but for what it's worth, I don't think there is much in it between the packs.
(KW): I'll start with the hookers as there has been much debate their. The bottom line is that Hartley hasn't yet reached his peak, and Thompson is a bit past his, so there really isn't a lot in it. I would say that the Saints man will be stronger in the loose, but the experience of Thompson will see him through in the scrum. The Lineout however is a bit of a lottery, as they both have a few problems in that area.
(JI): So if the hookers are about even, then the men either side of them will surely be key?
(JL): Props are crucial in the modern game, and we have two ends of the spectrum on show, with the experienced Saints pair up against the burgeoning talents of the younger Saracens men.
(SQ): So which way is it going to go Jase, you're the expert in this area after all.
(JL): Fosi and Duncan are big units and will take some shifting, but technically in the scrum both have flaws. That's not to say that the Sarries pair don't, but they are both good scrummagers, and being smaller than their opponents, they will have the ability to get underneath them and cause problems if they play it right. We've seen with Andrew Sheridan in the recent past that bigger props can struggle with slightly smaller men who are better technical scrummagers, and that is the way I see it today. The other thing is that big Dunc isn't great in the loose either and I think the Sarries boys have the edge their too.
(JI): But surely the Saints boys have the experience to overcome any problems?
(JL): They are experienced, and that will help, but I don't buy into the fact that age will overcome youth. For me of you are good enough you are old enough, and that includes in the front row. I played for England at 21 and didn't do to badly, and both of the Sarries boys definitely have the talent to play international rugby.
(JI): Ok, so it sounds like we're giving the front row to Saracens, what about the second row though Scott, a huge advantage for Saints I would suggest?
(SQ): Albacete and Lobbe are tremendous players, there is no question about it. Blaze and Vyvyan are good consistent performers though, and will work very hard against them. In the loose there isn't much difference, but you would have to say that the Saints pair are better lineout operators.
(AH): So you have Saints winning the lineout battle then Scott?
(SQ): Possibly, but it is never that simple. As Woody has already said both hookers have a bit of a problem with their radar, and that makes it a bit of a lottery really. The other thing is that Sarries will know that Saints are going to Lobbe ir Albacete each time, whereas Sarries will mix it up more with their recievers and keep Saints guessing. It really could go either way.
(JI): So at the moment it's looking like Sarries have the front 5 battle, so what about the back row?
(SQ): I've got to go for Sarries here again I'm afraid. Their back row has great balance to it. Thorpe is a solid performer, and Narraway should be England's starting number 8, and McCaw, well there is very little that I need to say, he is the best player in the world. For Saints Balding is ok, but not a great performer, and Damudamu is untested at the top level, and is not a natural openside. The only Saints player who can compete really is Neil Best, and he can't do it all by himself.
(JI): So you all seem to be in agreement that Saracens have a real edge in the forwards, but what about the backs? Austin?
(AH): There is no denying that playing Tirrell is a gamble for Sarries, but he is a good player, and has very good hands and pace. He'll be a bit of an unknown quantity to be honest, and it will be interesting to see how he copes. For Saints Peel and Giteau are quality when on the front foot, but they may have to be playing off the back foot, and it will be interesting to see if they can generate any momentum if the ball they are getting is not good. For Sarries Glen Jackson is a bit more pragmatic, and controls the game well, so it will be an interesting battle of styles. In the heat of battle, the cool head of Jackson could be the deciding factor.
(JI): So a close call in the half backs, which could go either way, but what about the rest of the team?
(AH): Well the two centre pairings are fairly even. The two English boys, Clarke and Powell, are potential internationals but need some big performances, and De Villiers and Mortlock are probably the best 12 and 13 in the world respectively. That area really is anyone's game, it will be all about who does the job on the day.
(JI): Ok, so what about the back three, surely we can split them?
(AH): Well Saracens have pace and flair on the wings and the steadying influence of Mike Brown at full back, whereas Saints have gone for all out firepower across the three of them. The only problem with that is defensively the are not the best and Varndell has been in such woeful form, teams have found it very easy to defend against him as well. I think Saracens have a better balanced three, but the most dangerous player is Foden. Saracens will want to keep the ball away from him as much as possible.
(JI): So what you're saying is that Ben Foden could really hurt Saracens today?
(AH): He could, but you also have to remember that Saracens have the best defensive record by some distance this season, and have only scored 20 or so fewer points than Saints. Saints on the other hand have conceded around a 100 points more than Saracens, which says to me that the defensive frailties of Northampton are showing through more than they should, and it could be Saracens that hurt them in this respect.
(JI): Ok, so it looks like most of the boys think it will be Saracens day, and with home advantage, it is difficult to argue with them. I'm sure it will be a great game, and we will keep you updated with the latest scores from that and all of the games as we get them.

That was when Grove was looking like he could become a world beater - I took a risk with Manu as he was so raw then, but luckily watched him in an 'a' league game against Wasps where he killed pretty much the whoel Wasps team!
Didn't ever think he'd get that good so quickly though.
Remember having a squad of about 78 players at one point!

Re: Homepage
Think the best side I've had across the whole game is
1. Woodcock
2. Brits
3. Castrogiovani
4. Shaw
5. Sharpe
6. Kaino
7. Warburton
8. Heaslip
9. Phillips
10. Cooper
11. Strettle
12. Nonu
13. Smith
14. Heymans
15. Kearney
16. Smit
17. Sheridan
18. Afoa
19. Thion
20. Bonnaire
21. Dickson
22. Evans
23. Earls
Tonga'uhia, Rees, Hines, AWJ, Kruger, Moody, Louw, Wallace, Houghard, Flutey, Contepomi, Monye and maybe others missing out.
Basically Ive never had any top wide players.

Fofana isn't happy - getting discovery of the season and not making the team!
Can't believe I had 98 players! That was just greedy!

Will get my side in today. New pack from me I think. I rested a few last weekend with an eye on this game at a neutral venue

Re: Homepage
I'm just doing mine now. Freshening up a bit, particularly in the pack, but in reality all of the starting front row, 1 lock and 1 back row forward would have been replaced, most likely around or before the hour mark, so will have played no more than any other week.

Re: Homepage
Could be a game breaker with last weeks extravaganza! I don't envy you two trying to pick a fresh side, even the benches would have took a hammering.
Actually looking forward to predicting this one

Nice work Pooly, trying to ramp it up so that my players are so tired by the time we play you that they can barely get out on the field!
