Euro 2012: Day 12 Thread - Page 2 Empty Euro 2012: Day 12 Thread

Post by Duty281 Mon 18 Jun 2012, 9:57 pm

First topic message reminder :

Sweden v France (ITV 4, 19:45)
England v Ukraine (ITV 1, 19:45)

Current Group Standings:

France - 4
England - 4
Ukraine - 3
Sweden - 0

If points are level, sorting criteria is thus:

Equality of points after the group matches
8.07 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the
following criteria are applied, in the order given; to determine the rankings:
a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;
b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if MORE
than two teams finish equal on points);
c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if
MORE than two teams finish equal on points);
d) superior goal difference in all the group matches;
e) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;
f) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see Annex I,
paragraph 1.2.2);
g) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
h) drawing of lots.

And this is what each team needs to do:

France (v Sweden)
Win - Secures qualification. Top spot depends on the result between England and Ukraine. If England also win, top spot goes to the team with the superior goal difference.
Draw - Secures qualification. Will still progress as group winners if England v Ukraine ends in a draw courtesy of their superior goal difference over Roy Hodgson's men.
Lose - Through as second-placed team if England beat Ukraine. If England and Ukraine draw, France will still qualify courtesy of their better head-to-head record against the co-hosts. If both England and France lose the team which has the superior goal difference between the pair will qualify.

England (v Ukraine)
Win - Secures qualification and they will progress as group winners if France fail to beat Sweden.
Draw - Secures qualification and they will progress as group winners if France lose to Sweden. If both final group games end in a draw, France will qualify as group winners courtesy of their superior goal difference over Roy Hodgson's men.
Lose - Out if France win or draw against Sweden. If both England and France lose the team which has the superior goal difference between the pair will qualify.

Ukraine (v England)
Win - Secures qualification. They will qualify as group winners if France fail to beat Sweden.
Draw - Out.
Lose - Out.

Sweden (v France)
Already eliminated.

Final day of the group stages, we have 6 teams through to the Quarters, 2 teams will join tomorrow. Sweden are already out courtesy of losing to the Co-Hosts and England. Ukraine need a win against England to qualify, nothing else will do and on their home patch they will be feeling confident. England only need to avoid defeat and they will make it to the quarters, whether they will make it to top spot or not depends on the French game and how many goals England can score with a certain Wayne Rooney back in the team (of course England could make it through with a defeat but that's a pretty unlikely scenario in which Sweden will need to beat France by a bigger margin than Ukraine beat England). For France, avoiding defeat will guarantee them qualification, a defeat and they will need to rely on England drawing or beating the Ukraine. And similar to England, they could make it through with a defeat.

Winners of Group D will face Italy.
Runners Up of Group D will face Spain.

Come on England!

So far yes. Their style of football can best be describes as industrial. All other teams pass and move. England hoof it upfield and run hoping for little flicks and lucky breaks.

And good rear guard Dunkirk style retreat and defense in the face of certain defeat.

If England get through, watch them play anti football against Spain.

well your just wrong- but there you go you have a right to an opinion- however wrong I feel it is. It may be better to state you dont like the way england play- but the fact is they have been more effective and better than many others Euro 2012: Day 12 Thread - Page 2 732107

The moment England meet a top 10 team, out they go. Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France will all comfortably beat England. You guys will always be a quarter final team at best.

Industrial football, where perspiration beats inspiration is over.

How many long kicks has Hart done already. The object is to keep the freaking ball. Most other teams would start the build up from the back. This isn't rubgy.

Rooney looks a little nervous, as if he knows that every time he touches the ball the whole nation expects something really special.

I think that's just because Yarmalenko is their best player. Attacks will go through him most of the time.

What is wrong with passing the ball to a team mate?. Myst, I think you are watching a different game. 3 passes then look up for the long industrial hoof upfield in the general direction of a white shirt.

I think Milner and Parker are solid players but a bit too slow for international level. Shame England don't have any better players to replace them.

Young needs to be told to help Cole out more.
Everybody needs to be told to keep the ball better.
Rooney needs to be told just to play his natural game, he's either nervous or just lacking that little bit extra sharpness.

Very good half from Ukraine, they just lacked that bit of quality in the final third, although Yarmolenko has threatened.

Still, as it stands we go through.

France-Sweden game looking identical to this one, Sweden being Ukraine.

The France-Ukraine game was very similar to this one, so I wouldn't be too worried. I'm just hoping that we don't sit back after scoring again.

England played well against Sweden, apart from a shocking defensive performance in the first 15 minutes of the second half. I am thinking that bringing in Rooney has disturbed Englands balance and team coherency that they have built up over the previous two matches. I am thinking Rooney should have been brought on as a substitute against a tiring Ukraine side. However I suppose Hodgson was scared of what the press might say.

Why are we so negative against such poor opposition, it's embarrasing to watch. Ukraine like Holland like alot of the teams at this euro's crumble when you attack them but what do we do......sit back and invite pressure. I'm not a fan of Hodgson and never will be playing like this. Milner is past atrocious, I'm even saying put Theo! (@azania/Crimey Very Happy )

Abysmal first half performance!

Walcott and Carroll will be on after 60-70 mins. Still have no idea why Lennon or Adam Johnson aren't in this squad, two players who can offer some real attacking threat going forward.

The fact is all of the invention has come from Ukraine. How much space do our midfielders want to give theirs. At times it was like a hot knife through butter.

But England being England will go on to progress and the sugar coating continue up until the weekend.

Am thinking Carroll on for Rooney sometime in 2nd half, if it stays the same ? Just to give us more of an outlet, as it's obviously not working very well so far ?

Rooney looks rusty, no doubt about it.

Lennon was out injured most of the season but seemed to be back to form and fitness towards the end of the season. Players that have come back from injury late in the season should in principle be fresher than those who have gone through a full premiership season.
