aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Good result for us, much needed.
Hopefully Benteke not out for to long.
Congrats to Kozak for scoring.
Him and Helenius up front. Some height there.

Re: aston villa thread
cup game tonight with spurs . i know we end up playing the bench warmers but lets be honest we not going to beat man city Saturday so why not play the first team (the non injured ones ) and go for winning this cup . ok perhaps we might get something out of the city game a draw at least but a good cup run is what the club needs . spurs ain't interested in this cup . they be looking for number four spot . lets go for it . we not going to be battling in the bottom 3 this year

Re: aston villa thread
embarrassing four nil thrashing . so all we can look forward too is an early exit from F A cup and prob bottom fourth and fifth . using a young goalkeeper who just got out of the youth was such a good idea . . not . four goals going to do his confidence a world of good . what's the point of going into a cup game and basically giving us no chance of winning . really really p**sed off with this . we going to lose to man city Saturday so resting fit professional players for this game just dont make sense . mad as hell

there's nothing to gloat at when an underdog loses. its like the equivalent of gloating over beating a ten year old child at tennis with aces every serve

Re: aston villa thread
Kind of see what you are saying jimmy.
On the other hand, its about the only time these guys will play(apart from when players are injured).
Would have liked Given to be back up this season as he hasn't gone.
Steer is only young, plenty of time ahead of him.
What we dont need saturday is another 4/5-0 drubbing on saturday.
Good to see Albrighton back.
KEA needs to go asap, useless.
Should have signed an attacking midfielder.
One option might have been Ince, which I would have been happy with.

Re: aston villa thread
perhaps he ll look at a midfielder come January . we been unlucky with injuries but its frustrating when our managers dont take the league cup seriously . its been done in the past too . we not going to get into six place so our cup runs are our only joy other then keeping out of the bottom 3 . i ve never mourned and always been positive but that . was pure canon folder . if they dont take the cup seriously then villa fans shouldn't either by not going to them . And yes i didnt go but really annoyed . going to slaughter spurs in fifa 13 tonight after work

Re: aston villa thread
Its been time for us to step up for a while now.
Since finishing 6th 3 seasons in a row with MON in charge, its certainly gone downhill.
Ok, so we have lost good players since, but we have some good players.
Think Benteke is the best forward we have had since Yorke I would say, he's only been here just over 1 season,(this may well be his last).
Guzan, again to me best keeper we have had since Bosnich(Friedel to).
Lowton is a promising player, with real potential.
Luna will improve as a player.
Vlaar is decent. Gabby is on fire this season, Delph to.
Other new signings need time to adapt, am sure will improve.
We have the players to push for a top 10 finish in my opinion.
Predicted we would finish 10-12th this season, early days.
If we dont start picking up points we will be in another dog fight.

Would be some scalp.
Will obviously be tougher without Tekkers.
Gotta have some confidence in Kozak/Helenius, their time to shine.
Defence needs to be at 100%.

Re: aston villa thread
Just read an article in sun about Gabby desperate to be on that plane to Brazil next summer.
I'd say he would be the only English player in with a shout.
But he will have to play like he has been playing for the rest of the season.
He is a regular which is good, so just a case of form and avoiding injury.
The only other person with an outside chance would be Lowton. But might be to early for him. Euro 2016 maybe.
Would love to see Gabby get in the WC squad.
I think even if he plays really well for the rest of the season and say gets aborund 15 goals, he shoukld get a chance.
Bit I just doubt it sadly.
Tekkers could well be our only player in the WC.

gabby unfortunately doesn't score enough goals . there been loads more prolific strikers then him that never seen an England shirt but saying that you never know but Roy never selected him so i dont see why he should now .

Re: aston villa thread
It really is poor..
The defence has not improved one bit.
Okore i don't think was the answer, might be half decent at best.
From watching motd, we looked pretty good first half.
Howard had a great game.
Was hoping after the City game we might buck up our ideas at home.
West Ham away saturday, draw at best, but i think a 2-1 loss.
Cardiff i think is our next home game.
Have to win that.
The good thing is its early in the season, plenty of time to get the home form right.
If we are in this position with 10 games to go, then i will be concerned

Re: aston villa thread
Much needed win on saturday.
Bacuna is doing the biz with these free kicks. Doing pretty well so far this season.
Glad Kozak scored.
Tekkers needs to start finding the net, well he needs the service.
Tonev and Bowery(who I cant believe gets on ahead of other players, eg Helenius), were very selfish saturday.
Tonev needs to learn to keep the ball down when he shoots.
Baggies away next, live.
Be an interesting game.

Re: aston villa thread
Decent point on monday, given the start we had.
2 interesting games ahead.
First off Sunderland home.
A team at the foot of the table struggling big time.
I would love it to be another hammering, but dont see it.
2-0.
Then on wednesday Saints away.
A team who are flying at the moment, surprising alot of people, playing some good football.
Now i'm hoping its not a repeat of last seasons score.
Think it will be tight, if there is a winner, then it will be by the odd goal, although i'm going for 2-2.
Will be at both these games, very much looking forward to them.
4 points from them will be good return.

Well saturday was poor.
Not much action and Sunderland could and should have won.
Plus sides, thats 4 games unbeaten and another clean sheet.
Onto tonight.
Looking forward to this game.
Get up there around half 6 couple of pints, then onto the game.
Can see us getting something.
2-2 like I said or being confident(although no reason to be), 2-1 win.
Gotta be confident.

Was a great win. Saints have been flying this season.
Lucky to get the win, Saints were better.
But hey we'll take it.
We're on a good run now, 5 unbeaten.
Onwards to Craven Cottage.

Re: aston villa thread
At any level of football have you ever 77.8% posession?
Even in the mis-matches of Barca in La Liga that percentage is unheard of.
My god, I'm happy with the win but FFS it scared the hell out of me and the 8 mins injury time never helped.
Can Gary Gardner link with Delph or is it one or the other?
What do we look for?
An attacking midfielder to help Delph go forward or a defensive one to help Delph when he wonders?
I have no idea how to improve this team other than keep them for 5 years until they mature.
Will we wait that long?

Re: aston villa thread
We need another attacking midfielder.
Someone who can hold the ball up.
Tom Ince would have been ideal for me, for wwhat was out there.
Delph has been very good this season, along with Gabby out 2 best players.
Gardner is injured.
KEA is poor, despite chipping in with the odd goal and assist.
Westwood is ok, improving, but still a way to go.
Sylla, average.
Tonev has been pretty poor so far(early days).
Albrighton is back, but again he is average.
N'Zogbia looks like he could be on his way out in january after his injury.
I would like to see Lambert play Lowton a right back, actually start. Push Bacuna forward, or have him as a sub.
Good to see Kozak score, but Tekkers nneds to find the net before xmas.
Hopefully Weimann will see more game time.
Missed Vlaar when he went off Wednesday night.
Who knows how Okore would have done if he had not been added to the injury list.
In january, attacking midfielder and maybe a loan centre back.
Just my thoughts.

Good start to the new year.
Played pretty well from what i heard.
Arsenal & Liverpool next 2 league games, gonna be tough.
Hopefully we can get a good signing or 2, this window, even if on loan.
A midfielder the main target Paul.

I'm at Villa Park this saturday Westy. 15 quid the ticket and in the Holte End too, can't argue with that price.
Should be a routine win.

I am also there Saturday Freek, Villa fan living in Sheffield so have a lot of mates who are Blades, still in the Villa end though.
Will be interesting to see what Lambert does in this window, we look alarmingly fragile at the back whenever Vlaar is not available, Baker is just not good enough to my mind. An experienced centre half would seem to be the most pressing concern. Lescott would seem to fit the bill and is seemingly available. A midfielder would also be nice, have no real issue with the likes of Delph, Westwood or El Hamidi at a push but they are all extremely similar, a bit of variety would not go a miss.

My best mate is a Villan and I go up with him now and again. It's only an hour or so up the road.
Last time I went was Boxing Day 2010 when you played Spurs and the atmosphere was pretty damp. I think Heskey limping off injured produced the biggest cheer! This was during the Houllier reign.
Must have been the coldest I've felt at a football match but on a plus note I brought some wooly gloves from one of stands outside the ground that I still wear to work to this day. Best fiver I ever spent

Enjoy the game lads.
Hope we get the win.
Next game for me will be Norwich home.
Up for the Saints game for easter week end.
Normally sit lower Holte, but may start to go upper.
Rowley.
Lescott would be good.
We seem to be lost at the back without Vlaar.
