First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

Bore da pawb / good morning all.
I wish I understood all this Dutch - I'm guessing it's not a million miles away from English, but all I understood from Billy's post was 'jong', and it doesn't take a Welsh rocket scientist to work that out.
Mo is a treasure, Gibbo. You don't need me to tell you, but it bears repeating!

Aye. Aled Thomas' influence shouldn't be underestimated in that. He's a classic outside half.

Dreamer, Aaron Shingler is fantastic. I suppose his physicality is what will count against him in Gatland's book, but I'd make room for him in our back row.
Actually, who would you drop for him? He's a six, but Mr Lydiate has that spot nailed down, I'd say.

He's played most of his career in age grade 2nd row though I think Lucky.
He can play anywhere from 4-8, just hope his versatility doesn't hurt his development. I would always have him starting for us, just a superb athlete, great to have on the bench too I suppose.
Oooh an interview with Mark!

It's some kind of pine, I think. You can tell from the leaves that it's not native. I've cut it back now and the pup is having a whale of a time chewing the branches!

Shingler's place is on the bench with Ryan Jones. Tough on Tipuric, but I'd start him over Warburton anyway.

Reminds me to do some cutting back at Mum's place - now that spring has sprung. We get all these exotic plants from South Africa, South America and Asia. It's a never ending battle for about 8 months of the year.

I don't think that's him, Breaker, the leaves aren't as waxy as that. I only call it 'fire tree' because my brother-in-law had one in his garden.
What's the truth of this Robbie Deans quitting rumour? If he did step down, who would you have as his replacement?

Talk about that has been whipped up by a few of his enemies - Alan Jones for one.
They are now talking about getting SBW to NSW Waratahs next season (NRL deal is far from finalised apparently) and either RD or McKenzie to coach them.
Ewen would be the logical choice to succeed Robbie for the Wallabies or if Deans stays as Wallaby coach, then McKenzie for the Tahs. It's all a bit confusing at the moment.

There's always a richness of footballers to choose from, I don't know whether it's coaching or instinct, but as long as your front row can scrummage (and even if they can't) your backs will cause sides problems. Ever since '84, I think.

Thanks Lucky.
My brother was at that Scotland match. Some say it was the final match of BC '78, then wining it in '79 and '80 was the coming of age for Australian rugby but I tend to agree with you it was that '84 tour which proved we could also do well in Europe.
That '84 GS Tour was preceded by a Schoolboys tour where they did pretty well too. I still can't believe Mark Ella retired at 25.

Similar to Barry John I suppose, choosing to retire rather than just falling out of favour.
Campo and Ieuan Evans were my idols when I was growing up. Funnily enough, I still preferred Campo even after the '89 Lions tour! I still believe in the philosophy of counter-attacking: most players these days will just hoof it, but if it's on, it's on, it doesn't matter where on the field you are. Kurtley Beale is a real gem in that respect.

You only have to watch some of the tries in this weekend's NRL matches.
Some bamboozling moves which leave you shaking your head in disbelief.
The lines that they run (often drawing 3 or 4 tacklers) then popping up passes or tricky 'Harlem Globetrotter' sleight-of-hand stuff. It seems to get better and better each week. The defence is not too shabby either. Some absolute bell-ringers yet they just get up (if they can) and do it all again.
If only we could train a few of those NRL guys in the finer arts of rugby union. Some completely devastating players (forwards and backs) running around at the moment.
