The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Taihape - The Gumboot Capital of the World!
http://www.taihape.co.nz/
We also welcome our newest member, Amber ...who no doubt will have an interest in those boots!
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Aaron Smith, Topsy Ojo, Jason Shoemark, Tom Rees, Gonzalo Garcia, Leo the Leinster Lion and Lalakai Foketi up on the wall.

Rev. I used to Order from Donald Russell. To be honest I think you are better off with your local butcher.

Yeah that's the thing Glas, I was sceptical about the quality. I will try them. You're only allowed one order per household anyway, so it'll only be a one off unless I use other addresses.
Rav, I'm far too lazy for going to a butchers. Do see some good deals when I'm passing by on nights out though.

The quality is excellent Glas/Rev. The value of that offer is as well but I found the general price a bit expensive. Also if you check the weights of the cuts they are fairly small. The Fillets are around 4oz I think. The ribeyes and rumps are about 6 ounces.

+1 Quite often use DR, particularly for kiddies size steaks, and puddings (white, black, etc.)Rava wrote:Glas a du wrote:Risca Rev wrote:I'll have a question about steaks when I get back to the UK, Glas. Had a leaflet with a steak offer in Rugby World and wondering if it's worth it?

Yeah. Lovely weather, spent yesterday afternoon in the Wheatsheaf to watch the ABs win, a Holden won Bathurst overnight, had a nice long walk this afternoon and cooked my Mum's Tuna "pie" recipe* for dinner. And I can take the leftovers to work for lunch tomorrow.
*
Mix together
A tin of tuna
1 cup of cooked rice
1 cup of frozen peas
A roux (ie about 1cup of white sauce) - I included mustard and paprika in the sauce
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped up
Some sliced spring onion or chives
Top with a layer of tomato slices then grated cheese & breadcrumbs, bake until topping is golden
Comfort food. Even if it's not really a pie.

£10 says Bath finish ahead of Glaws again this year, to charidee of course.
Incidentally, I just watched Andrew Marrs' history of the world, and two things struck me.
i) The Trade and Goods Descriptions Act does not relate to TV broadcasting.
ii) If Andrew Marrs' mouth was any wider, his head would hinge backwards from his neck.

Or just guilty by association?
They all knew about "it" but did nothing to stop it, meally-mouthed liberal bed-wetters. Esther Rantzen? What a fraud.
As for tax-dodging?
Some of them are clearly employed by the BBC but benefit from Self-Employed status.
The rules regarding being "self-employed" in the construction industry are extremely well defined and strict.
The two primary indicators are that work should be undertaken on a fixed price basis, and that all risk should lie with the contractor.
In other words, you don't get a salary, you get a price for the delivered product, and if it runs over, or under-delivers, you need to provide more materiel and time/effort to produce the required product, at the original price agreed - i.e. "at your own risk".
Self-employed my arse,
Jaysus, who'd be stoopid enough to support this bloated cesspit of human vanity?
Bollix, there must be a way around the licence fee using European Law?

Yup, they're nae pies though either Pete, just stews with a tater lid on 'em. I'm cool with various dishes being flirtatious with the "pie" epithet, to be fair, there's little so flattering as imitation, but there is one thing, and one thing alone that remains constant when it comes to a pie.
It has to be entombed in pastry, else it's just a wannabee.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, it's a dark and drizzly morning here on the docks, but I wouldn't mind a day of steady lightish rain. It seems like every time it's rained the last few weeks, it's been the heavy stuff.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
Morning guys,
Best proper rain I've experienced is in Saigon. It bounces about 1-2m off the road creating a sort of white-out effect. I'll never forget a chain of about 3 or 4 people carrying massive umbrellas* between the road and the hotel lobby which allowed us 'foreigners' to get through the doors relatively dry.
* They were about 2.5m diameter. Thought it was some sort of gimmick at first but soon realised it was another practical Vietnamese improvisation.

PJ your dead right, I'm sick of these jumped up stews with a hat on mascarading around the place pretending to be a pie.
You want to be a pie then get yourself surrounded in pastry. Then and only then will I accept you as a pie.

I'm with you guys on this one. I mean if I stick some mashed spud accidentally on top of a lamb chop does that suddenly become a pie. NO IT DOES NOT!!!!
Get into the pastry of you want to be a pie, puff or short crust I don't care.
God I am so sick of morning TV, I have even gotten into counting guests' teeth on Jeremy Kyle, there's 3 guests and I can count 5 teeth so far. They also don't seem to be speaking english, subtitles please ITV

Step 1 is to come up with an alternate, short appellation to apply to all the current faux pies
"Shepherd's Bake" ?

Pete we are happy to encompass the "traditional" pies such as cottage and shepherds and even your Ma's Tuna version. The problem area is the bowl of stew with the unattached pastry lid. Just imagine that lid falling off on the way to the table. What would you be presented with?

The problem with starting a campaign like this is, where do you stop? For example, I've never met a particularly promiscuous custard tart.

Something like 2 fillets, 2 ribeyes, and 3 other ones plus 12 mini steak burgers for £29
Value for money OK, but what about quality. Only one way to find out!
The quality is excellent Glas/Rev. The value of that offer is as well but I found the general price a bit expensive. Also if you check the weights of the cuts they are fairly small. The Fillets are around 4oz I think. The ribeyes and rumps are about 6 ounces.
Thanks a lot for that mate. I'll do the offer, then stick with the butchers.
Hi all. Started making my way home. Back in UK tomorrow aft. Can't wait. Will miss the sun though.
