The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Taihape - The Gumboot Capital of the World!
http://www.taihape.co.nz/
We also welcome our newest member, Amber ...who no doubt will have an interest in those boots!
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Aaron Smith, Topsy Ojo, Jason Shoemark, Tom Rees, Gonzalo Garcia, Leo the Leinster Lion and Lalakai Foketi up on the wall.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
It is very skewed isn't it?
It never ceases to amaze me when I see teams like LI or Wasps or SF in the same group as teams who I have absolutely no idea which country they play in!
Not sure I want to open the whole "Let us English dictate the rules of the HEC (ie have a chance of winning) or we're taking our ball and going home!" thing in here!

It's not about that for me MrsP, it's that the HC should be for the elite and I think it should be cut to 16 teams. How that 16 is made up is another debate and is one that has been done to death recently.

Thought we should win, denying Biarritz the BP then taking our BP was more than I'd hoped for

Well done CJ!
Lots of TBPs around this weekend!
All well in P land Ozzy.
Mad as usual like, but good all the same. Hockey and rugby teams both won with clean sheets today. The BB team lost but P3 was told she played well so a happy bunny! P1 fell off twice at riding today but they were both soft landings so no harm done. What do you expect when you are learning to jump with no stirrups!

Fantastic performance from Marshall. No chance of getting capped in the AIs. Over here the former has very little influence on the latter.
CJ good effort man. How you feel the running training combines with the rugby?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
It gives good fitness but it's very hard to rugby train and run train in the same day so I can't really make rugby training as I'm running 5 times a week. Also switching from rugby boots to running shoes has been quite hard on my feet! It's mostly just fitting the time to train for both in, rowing has taken a massive backseat, probs can't do it competitively this year

Mad's the best way to be MrsP. We've had a quiet weekend so far as the H and D are both a bit poorly with hacking coughs, but I am pretty sure my fuel bill will increase in the next few weeks as H is rehearsing for a production of Mary Poppins in late November and N has a part in a production of We Will Rock You in December. On the plus side going swimming with the kids twice a week is certainly keeping me fit!!!

Well fair play to you sir, that's some effort to run a marathon whilst still being involved with rugby and rowing. Respect.

H treading the boards already????
I knew N was a seasoned actress at the tender age of ? 11 but hadn't realised middle O was following in her foot(lights) steps.
You could get one of those bikes with the wee cart thing behind to get them to and fro. Would save on the fuel and increase the fitness levels!

You should get them involved in the same productions but not trying out for the same roles.
Of course, if it's anything like our house, they'd still manage to have rehearsals at different times or at the same time but in different places!

Now that sounds very familiar. The usual thing for us is they all get invited to birthday parties on the same day in different places and Mrs O is at work so it's just me running round like a lunatic dropping off and picking up!

Fair play to the Dragons fans tonight. They chanted for their team from the terrace throughout.
Stand up for the Men of Gwent.
I didn't manage to meet up with lucky, despite getting up to the ground early. Missed calls amd texts - I think he was probably in the ground by the time I got there.
Safe home to you fella.

I'm not sure I understand that MrsP. Are you saying you only recognise one ERC competition because it's the only one that Rabo teams play in?
Don't get me wrong, I'm totally bitter about the fact that Bath aren't good enough to play in the Heino this year, but not so bitter as I can't support Ulster for the duration of the Heino.
I get the impression, from your post, that you find it amusing that some teams in Europe end up playing in a totally Pan-European competition, whilst others in Europe end up playing in a restricted European competition regardless of how poor they are at the game in their own league.
I don't see the "Let us English dictate the rules of the HEC (ie have a chance of winning) or we're taking our ball and going home!" argument at all.
The argument for the "across the board Rabo qualifiers" is that it's supposed to be a Pan-European cup. So, how many Romanian or Spanish teams are in the Pan-European Heino?
Personally, I'm not fussed by the current argument as I love the Heino as it is, but I really don't see how you can lay down the current upheaval at the door of "the English", particularly when you couple it with an analogy of taking away a ball, like it's a child thing?
Out of order as far as I'm concerned.

Nothing...they'll use one once the birds have pooped the notes on the paper. There's an artist in Liverpool who's laid big sheets of blank music paper in a park and the birds will poop notes and they'll create music from that...

Can't complain really, except I haven't seen a full game yet only drips and drabs. Some interesting results, Leinster deserved to lose from what I saw.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
Afternoon. Thom - Leinster definitely had the referee on their side. I was watching it with other Wasps fans in a pub before our game. We are an objective bunch, and we could not believe what Leinster got away with.
There was a blatant trip by Nacewa that should have been at least a yellow, and a high tackle from the same player that went unpunished. Numerous Leinster offences at the ruck were ignored, with two players coming in from the side to effect a turnover in easy kicking range. The score was 6-6 then, and had Chiefs taken the lead it could have been a very different result.
On Planet Rugby, Joe Schmidt said they got lucky. Most neutrals would agree.
Cari NR did have a good game last night. Some of his passing was top drawer.

Hi all hope everyone had a good time wherever their travels took them this weekend.
We got to Ravenhill on Friday night but that was it for live Rugby.
Went back to Belfast with Mrs R, daughter and son-in-law for a night out for Mrs R's birthday. Great day/night but as per my memory wasn't in great condition at the end
We were in a Japanese restaurant and our table was booked for 9.00pm. Very busy and didn't get seated until 10.00. Manager and staff couldn't do enough for us and even brought a birthday surprise for Mrs R. We had a few drinks during and after the meal and when the bill came they were FOC!! Brilliant!! Probably about £40 worth.
Also met and had a quick chat with Craig Gilroy who was there with a couple of mates. Nice young fella and happy to keep Bowe and Trimble under pressure and hopes that when the opportunity arises he can do a good job.
