First topic message reminder :

Of course there are shades of grey but ultimately nobody can be sent to jail for saying they would like to kiddy fiddle but won't as it's illegal and cannot include consent by definition.
They go to jail when they break the law by looking at images or worse acts. So what do you do, change the laws ? Having an open debate won't change the laws, it will still come down to the same thing.
So whether they are deemed evil by society or not is ultimately fairly irrelevant as far as I can see. The end game remains the same.

There have been countless people or articles that have accused Armstrong of doping over the years though nothing has come of it until hopefully now. For anyone interested the below link lists all the articles and accusations printed about Armstrong over the years:

Like I said I'm just utterly gobsmacked that if true (and from the sheer weight of numbers queuing up to stick the knife in and from such a variety of places it does become almost impossible to think otherwise) that the authorities were either unwilling or unable to deal with it way way earlier.

Was it because his story was so incredible in the first place that everyone wanted him to be clean and buried their heads in the sand? Hell was the whole "at deaths door with testicular cancer" all a bit of a fabrication/exaggeration too?

I am no doctor, but I reckon brain and lung cancer are enough to make you think about getting a will in order.

On a serious not you would think being that ill might make someone consider the importance of health, and not pump un-tested drugs into your body 24/7 365 days a year? I bet increased risk of cancer was a side effect of many of the drugs he took.

Gut feeling? Yes, I suspect it was. FWIW, testicular cancer is generally very responsive to chemotherapy. I don't remember the specifics of his case but an awful lot was made of it when it's actually pretty survivable as a cancer goes.
Basically, he got over testicular cancer (as loads of other men do) and went back to his day job (as loads of other men do). Forgive me, but I'm not sure that's worthy of the headlines it's been given over the years.

It was because to so many Armstrong was such an icon and a hero for a few reasons:

His battle with cancer.
His success, so many TdF wins
He set up and maintains the biggest charitable foundation of all time. It is incredibly sucessful.

Many people didnt want to believe it was true. There were also many people that didnt want to speak out against him because they themselves werent squeaky clean themselves. The cycling federations themselves probably have things to hide. You cant take someone down if they can take you with them.

Navy- it spread to his brain and lungs. In his book he said he was given 5% chance of survival, maybe that's an exaggeration but he had to have brain surgery so it wasn't just a case of standard testicular cancer.

Ah, but that's where I think the creative writing may be coming in. According to Cancer Research UKs statistics, there's a 95% chance of survival beyond 10 years post-diagnosis. Even in men whose testicular cancer has metastasised and who have a 'poor' prognosis, almost 50% survive beyond 5 years.
In fact, the more one looks at this, the more I think this is embellished. If only we could see medical evidence....no, wait, that's confidential. What a surprise.

I don't buy it incontinetia. "He said in his book....". Well, we know what he's like when it comes to the truth don't we? As medical records are confidential, I don't suppose it's verifiable now is it?

That's an interesting to follow in the future I reckon. Some of USADA's findings talk about payments to UCI I think. I bet there's a few current and former people in cycling's governing bodies who're wetting themselves - if Armstrong is finally, incontrovertibly exposed, I wouldn't give a rat's arse for them remaining untouched.

Quite a funny one on Radio 5 the other day when a guy was defending Armstrong saying, to this day he has never failed a drugs test.

The other guy said that it was a bit like saying that there was no forensic evidence in a burgled house but 26 people had seen the criminal climbing out the window with a telly in his arms.

Quite. Given what's being suggested about the testing regimes, payments, outright lying, avoiding the testers etc etc, it's hardly a good defence is it? Laugh

Armstrong has failed a drugs test. The governing body just accepted his back dated perscription as a valid excuse and therefore wasnt sanctioned.

They dont do drugs tests in cycling just iq tests.

Is it easier to sleep at night if you are tony bush (pick whichever one you want) or jimmy saville?

If so, I'd imagine they sleep well. They were "on a mission from God" as I recall so I expect they feel fine. Personally, I hope they are consumed with guilt every night but somehow I doubt it.

Indeed they can, prescription medicine such as beta blockers and codeine have an effect on the nervous system that can pretty much block out all nervous feelings. fairly useful in golf I reckon!

I can vouch that it can help,But i have recent experience.. just come back from playing hardelot with a 2 day trip to holland before. lager, thai weed and funnily enough betta blockers(pescription) and codene(pain from night before. I shot 16 points day 1- the worst score i ever have in my life- but then i couldnt feel my body!
