First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to "sleepy" Roswell New Mexico, take off point for the first ever supersonic free-fall this week.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Felix Baumgartner and Chris Budgen up on the wall.

Thomond, I heard John O'Shea say today on the radio that they had a team meeting after the Euros and were "aiming for 2nd place" in the qualifiers.
I dont like that attitude.

Well done Norn Iron.
The FAI need rid of Delaney & the past-it Trap. Players are shoite too. Let' s be honest here. The days of McGrath, Brady, Whelan, Houghton, Lawrenson et al, are long gone.
See the IRFU with Browne and Kidney.

Agreed, I think we have a suspect already.
The quicker we strike, the better chance we have of nicking him (or her) red-handed. To the batcave!

I really despair is this sort of thing!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19962588
If this research was conducted as it is reported here Imperial College have wasted a lot of time and money, including 42 MRI scans to prove,
"Through both the participants' MRI results and observations of how much they ate at lunch, we found ample evidence that fasting made people hungrier...."
Wow!
Never would have guessed that!
They also failed to spot that, unless they were offering a monumental 3,650 lunch, the folk who had missed breakfast had still consumed fewer calories than the ones who eat breakfast!
Are my taxes really paying for this?

Morning all, extra strong please. Actually, make it a double.
Went to a pub quiz last night, thankfully we have our company quarterly all-staff update this afternoon, good chance for a nap!
Last time we did the quiz night at the Old Queen's Head we won. Since then 2 of our team members have returned to NZ, and we replaced them with 3 Poms, and only finished 6th. It appears we failed to recruit a reader of the Sun newspaper (the quiz has a section on "things I read in the Sun this week"). At least I got us 100% in the geography section

EUROPEAN FINALS WEEKEND UPDATE
If you are flying over to Dublin for the HEC Finals, get on to the Air Fungus website now. Just booked flights from the ‘Diff at just over £100 return with checked in luggage.
With just hand luggage they are £70-ish return (If you fly out Friday then it’s mega-expensive )

Speaking of quizzes (as Kiwi was, at least), I did quite well watching University Challenge the other day. I was particularly smug about getting all three bonus music questions (they played a song and asked for the name of the songwriting team) when UCL got none of them.
Just for the hell of it, the answers were:
Goffin / King (can't remember the song)
Lieber / Stoller ('Hound Dog')
Holland / Dozier / Holland ('Reach out / I'll be There')

For some reason, the only research that is reported on in the media is always less worthy. Probably because the research that matters is almost always less interesting to a layman and less easy to summarise in a short article.
And reporting of science is almost always wildly inaccurate anyway.

Yeah, I know Notch.
But this just sounds like the most poorly designed study ever.
They seem to have found that people who have fasted for probably 12 hours are more interested in a picture of a large meal than those who eat a huge meal one and a half hours ago.
Well, who'd have thunk it, eh?

I've been struggling to connect via 3G on the iPad the last few days. And Forumotion had a 5-10 minute general all-forums outage a couple of days ago.
I'm looking into it.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Afternoon all.
I am sad to learn that yet another Wasp has had to retire through injury. Richard Birkett has had to give up the game after sustaining a neck injury in an A game earlier this season. Birkers was a one club stalwart and played for Wasps for 14 seasons notching up over 250 appearances.
He is fondly remembered for trying to salvage something from a HC game against Stade Français at Loftus Road in 2000. As a young and enthusiastic lock he was hoisted up to prevent a last minute, long range Diego Dominguez penalty clearing the crossbar. Birkers managed to fumble it over the bar despite the fact that it was dropping about 3-4 inches short.
Final score….Wasps 28 –31 SF.
Trust me, we thought it was funny - so typical of
Wasps back then.
