Who do you want to play 13 now that our Lord and Saviour has been cruelly taken away from us this Autumn?
Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
First topic message reminder :
So Kidney announces his squad today, a 32 man panel against the boks and pumas. More players come into consideration for the Fiji game.
A 31 man Ireland squad including four uncapped players has been named by Ireland Coach Declan Kidney for the 2012 Guinness Series games against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina.
Centre Luke Marshall and forward Iain Henderson named in the panel and who were involved in the Ireland training camp in September are included in the squad as are prop David Kilcoyne and hooker Richardt Strauss, who is now eligible to play for Ireland based on his residency for the past three years.
In addition to the naming of the Ireland squad for the 2012 Guinness Series, there were also changes announced to the makeup of the national coaching staff with current Munster Assistant Coach and former international Anthony Foley joining the Ireland coaching team.
Foley will be now be leading the defence plans and systems allowing Assistant Coach Les Kiss to lead the attack shape for the team as well as continue to coach the backline. Foley will remain working with Munster Rugby outside of the international window. It was also confirmed that Leinster scrum coach, Greg Feek will continue providing his expertise to the Ireland team during competition time.
Commenting on the Guinness Series games and the addition of Anthony Foley, Ireland Coach Declan Kidney said: "We have three incredibly competitive games ahead of us in November and while there have been quite a few injuries and niggles in the early part of the season, it has opened up opportunities for other players to step into the squad. There are world ranking points on offer, so the underlying challenge for us is to work towards retaining and improving our ranking position ahead of the Rugby World Cup pool draw. While that is the end goal, our focus will be getting our preparations right to match the intensity of international games.
"I'm pleased that Anthony has taken up the offer of working with the squad to assist during this vital period in November. His previous experience of working with the team during the last RBS 6 Nations championship was important, but his own abilities and experience were central to bringing him onboard. I would like to thank Rob Penney and Joe Schmidt for being so positive and giving Anthony Foley and Greg (Feek) the scope to be part of the plans that we have."
Anthony Foley said: "I was delighted when Declan approached Rob and me about the possibility of working with the Ireland team again. I enjoyed the opportunity I got during the Six Nations working with the players and I felt once we were all comfortable with the balance between Munster and Ireland, I jumped at the chance. I certainly feel I can contribute positively and when you get the chance to coach with your country, you don't want to pass it up.
Ticket sales have reached over 46,000 for the South Africa game with only a limited number of categories available for purchase from IrishRugby.ie and www.ticketmaster.ie
While the Argentina game is a full month away, ticket sales are at just over 37,000 tickets and are selling quickly and have already surpassed the attendance the last time Argentina visited the Aviva.

Oh like that combo gibbo. Good lad. Gots pace, power, defence, handling, line running.
A+
Lads I thought ye were jOkin about Hurley. I know jones has v little time but he is a better player and will grow in the role. Play him against Fiji and see what happens.
So negative.
Would it be very Wendy-ball to have a kidney out poster at the Aviva?

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
Gibson wrote:Im more concerned about BOD missing for Leinster. Not for Ireland. And not for selfish reasons. I agree with Auck. It is high-time the search for his international replacement was accelerated. This is a great opportunity to do so.
We will dip when he goes. We do every single time he is missing. Any team would, but we cannot put off aligning his successor any longer.
We don't want another John Hayes and ROG story here do we? Deccie wont finish any of these players careers in his tenure. The new coach will have to. Just as happened at Munster.
Give it to Earls for now (and Deccie will). Any other discussion is futile. There are a raft of players who are more than capable of replacing him over the next 3 years. Earls that is, not BOD.
We need a strong, balanced, complimentary, pairing. Not just try to slot in excellent individuals and hope it all works. In their hay days, BOD and Darcy were all those attributes combined in one unit. Telepathic rugby ensued.
I've seen all the rest and I see a near future with Fitz and Bowe in the centre. Leave Earls on the wing and only the wing - when Kidney is gone that is.
Point No1...who will replace the shakey kneed, crap ankles that is BOD...there is currently no one in the same league as Earls. The fact that for Point No.2 you see a near future with Fitz and Bowe shows that you have been on the gange again and senility is starting to creep in (although we have known that for some time).
I would welcome Joe Schmidt coming into Ireland cos clearly he has a great record against top welsh teams.....

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
DOD, when logic is pointed out to you, and all for the benefit your education too, no need to revert to stereotypical insults.
Ya obstinate, Cork tick ya.
The young players coming through in the centre at the moment, are either just not good enough or have not had the chance to really prove it for their clubs. Like Earls. Its yet another Kidney stop-gap. I feel sorry for the lad. He is lost at this level at FB or centre. That leaves him just one international option.
Maybe some will step up to the next level, when and if they are given the time, but most of them wont.
The above two mentioned have all the proven prerequisite attributes for success.
Tomorrow, for Deccies benefit, we will be mostly explaining what a 7 is. Followed by old videos of Ireland, when they actually attacked teams with intent. And armed with a game plan. And maybe even a backup gameplan too. Maybe some of it will rub off and cause a re-awakening. Like is that how to play rugby lads? Well I never. Please tune in. And thanks for coming.

DOD is just like Tubbs coping with the sad news there is a world outside Munster. Good job there are so many injuries or else he'd only have O'Connell in the team.

Cave is running away with this poll so far lads.
Who do you lot want to see against Fiji, I imagine there will be some experience in that team but most of it will be youth.
Personally I'd be p!ssed if we didn't see the two Marshalls, Tuohy, Stevenson, Madigan and Kilcoyne

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
we will see something like this v fiji
hurley, bowe, earls, marshall, zebo, ogara, reddan, omahony, henry, muldoon, mc carthy, ocallaghan, bent, cronin, court. bench- healy, fitzpatrick, strauss, henderson, mclaughlin, murray, sexton, gilroy
i really cannot see the point of a 35 year old ronan ogara starting this match.

Ronan O'Gara is starting for Munster. After missing out on HEC rugby through injury Kidney needs him match fit for the Saffers.
Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
Kidney doesn't need him at all. There are four younger and better fly halves in the country its just the IRFU and Kidney refuse to see it.

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
but rodders its all about closing the game out against the likes of fiji. if we get 10 points clear is is naive to try and add more tries and kill the game off., we need to batton down the hatches sit back and punt the ball away whenever we get it hence rog must play.
oh for a coach who could make big decisions and start looking towards the future.

He was in the right place* at the right time**
* Right Place = The bushes outside the Kidney residence.
** Right Time = When Deccie flicked on the video of himself having fun with farmyard animals.

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
Dave if ROG would (and still could) punt the ball away I would be happier..unfortunately someone has put the idea in his head that he can run with the ball...... think he's been watching too many videos of DR Phil on Youtube...
Mick there is not one area of the game where Jackson isn't a country mile better than ROG at this stage of their careers. I think Keatley is better and Madigan is on a different planet to him. Its nonsence.

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
if muldoon is there too add "experience" and captain the side surely jennings would be a better bet. muldoon is 30 and jennings 32 i think. hardly a huge difference in age
jennings is a superior player to muldoon has been and always will be
better still would be to look forward and pick neither jennings or muldoon and let omahony be captain v Fiji

Fiji isn't a Test Match and will have no bearing on the rankings.
I'd have as many players from Munster involved if you want to sell tickets locally. I can't see a lot of people travelling down from Dublin or Belfast to go to a non-Test match.

Course you would. No surprises there.
Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
The three games should be regarded as three International games - a charge - a surge of momentum. Kidney has had many opportunities to do the blooding and the teaching. Time now for Ireland to just get up as much a head of steam as it can to take it out of its continuing stupor.
And that means every game should have the best players available playing - forget the 2nd string mid match blow out. Best players playing best brand available to them and just taking the three games as one single charge of intent.
Can we even do that? Who knows. But for me, that's the duty now. We have to break this up'n'mostly down habit.

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
hello then, everyone bored of this thread as it has resorted to ROG bashing...younshould be more concerned with Sexton...once the SA and Argentinian backrows get the upper hand (as Wales and the Ospreys) do regularly against Irish teams he is clueless. Cue aimless kicking up the pitch and an inability to change the course of the game...it will happen

Jayzuz DOD, yer a great judge of a players ability and character. Has be be said.
Sexton is also Chairman of the Players Union (IRUPA). Very popular guy... a born leader... rumour has it. But SIN E probably has another story. Or yarns. Or tales. An ting

i appreciate that if we do contrive to lose v sth africa and argentina that we will be in danger of slipping out of the top 8 and fiji will become an important test match.
Fiji isn't a Test Match and will have no bearing on the rankings.
I'd have as many players from Munster involved if you want to sell tickets locally. I can't see a lot of people travelling down from Dublin or Belfast to go to a non-Test match.
Course you would. No surprises there.
It should be used to mix first XV players who need gametime with young guys who can be future stalwarts. Sine Es implication is people will only turn up to watch players of their own province is genuinely annoying and sad.
On the other hand, I WILL be using that logic to insist that the team for every test match played in Dublin consists of mainly Leinster players to get the local fans out in force

Odd. I have bought tickets to the Argie game but I'd much prefer to go to the Fiji one (the lads couldn't make that weekend). I'd much prefer to see the young Irish up and coming who are still raw than see what has turned in to a very negative national team

Re: Irish Autumn Squad-BOD AND BEST OUT!
5 euro we see Leinster captain and Munster vice captain. Usual PC bollix from Kidney.
Says more about the fans and media than anything else.
In better news some positive vibes from Angela Merkel on the Irish economy
