Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Their ratings will hold for a little while for me but will eventually fall. Theres some big names going out there but not enough yet to make it a truly competitive top level league. Most of the lads going out there are just going for a fat payday for their last few seasons and just wont be playing at the same standard so will definately affect their ratings for me

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Depends who the player is really.
If they were world class then they will still retain it. For example how many people lower their ratings of JMH who has barely played for years??
Same as Juan Smith who always retains most of his rating despite always being injured etc
If it was a good international but not wc i think the rating drops quicker. Look at Beckham he went to LA and was still very good and able to play in the England side.

How is Juan Smith always injured?
Agree with Johnny. Players like Russouw, Maps will lose their rating over the months.

To a certain extent I agree, but generally in terms of when a class player has a dip in form. Long term injury for me is different. Players come back into the game and may have lost something as a result of the injury, be it pace, or even possibly a bit of bottle. Also the game is changing at a pace these days with new law interpretations and it is difficult to know how a player who has been out long term injured will adapt to these.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
It's a tough one.
I was very undecided in the semi against you Pete who to with at 10, JMH, butch james or bowden.
JMH on form is obviously the best but hadnt played for two months.
James had a dip in form but was starting to play well for Bath.
Bowden had been quality for Irish, but people who dont see them play wouldnt necessarily know that.

As everyone has had their 1 June foreign transfer, how about opening the July window now so everyone can get their second, just gives everyone the chance to sort their squads out a bit earlier and as the reason for doing it as 1 a month was to avoid the big guns splashing the cash and pricing the others out and picking up the three best players at once, there is no real reason not to have the second ones now.

The only reason I say 1 rather than 2 Pooly is it might be worth leaving the final one until WC squads are announced so people can cover for anyone that might have been a surprise call up from their squad.

Yeah have to agree with Pete. Can we get the next foreign in since everyone is done? But its fair to leave one until all the world cup squads are named. None of us want the nasty shock of a surprise call up

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
I personally think that we shouldn't be restricted in any way but the number of transfers we can make.
If someone wants to risk signings before squads announced then let them, its there choice. If people want to save two transfers till week before the start of the season then let them. All part of the game.
A different way of looking at things

What do people think of David Smith and Rod Davies?
Thinking I might go for Basson, been on great form for the Bulls. Tough one though as will go to WC, and Pieterson is on great form again so winger not a priority.

Quite like Smith. Never seems to put a foot wrong and isnt involved with internationals. Handy player to have.
Basson is the best of the 3 for me will be a fixture in the Bok side for a while for me. Personally if your covered at wing for the world cup id take the hit and sign Basson

rod davies is not a natural player all gas and not much else.
david Smith has been around for a while and always looks electric but never consistent
Basson is a good player but i think if SA have a decent FB then the wings will be Habana and Aplon

Think Basson has been on better form than Aplon.
Kirchner or Steyn gives them decent options at fb.

Maybe they'll teach him that he is a scrum half and not a flanker there!

I've not heard that but I can see that been the likely outcome. He's went steadily down hill for a couple of years now..to be second choice at the O's must have been a kick in the teeth.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
There's a lot more to it than that pooly, hence why he is still first choice for Wales! I think he's a very good player, would be ideal for the premiership because of his competitive style etc.
There are a lot of players coming into the league that I think would really struggle in the AP, because its completely different style of play - personally I'm not a fan of Super Rugby, much prefer the Prem!

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
To be fair Chris, this league is so far removed from the AP in real life in terms of players in it now, the way the game would be played would be different too.
Phillips is a good rugby player Chris, just a poor scrum half!

I've got to agree there Pete, he's held Wales back in terms of progression. Takes way too much ball on and starves the backs of time on the ball. Not a very good scrum half imo.

Dont think the Welsh pack helped him out - he's a very good player and works perfectly for my team.
Would prefer to have him in the wet, muddy months than a lot of other scrum halves.

Over the past 18 moths, the Welsh pack has been their strong point whilst their backs have stuttered and stumbled.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the scrum half.....
