The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Morning Prop, Lucky and any lurkers.
See, the sky hasn't fallen in just because our teams lost on the weekend.
Weird eh?

Don't ask!
It was awful.
France played very well though.
I'm trying not to think of the rugby. They know what they've gotta do otherwise it will be another hiding at Twickers next weekend.
Some consolation today with the cricket. That will most likely be a draw unless something remarkable (like Adelaide 2006 2nd Test) happens again. Don't think it will though... but you never know.

Morning all.
Gawd there's been some utter tripe being posted on the International threads. Especially on that 'Lions' thread.
Someone posted ESPN's Lions team based on the weekend's performances on the thread; that sure stirred the pot.
Posting a Lions team based on one weekend is a worthless exercise imo, with so many likely contenders out through injury.
Just call it the B&I team of the week if anything. I suppose it keeps someone busy at ESPN though.
Does anyone know if a SH team of the week is compiled anywhere?

It's always the same when the national sides are playing, Hound. My favourite was when a poster said that no Welshmen would make the Lions Test XV based on the performance against Argentina, then admitted that he hadn't even watched the match!

That will be the rearrangement of the postponed game I take it?
The leagues get going again over the weekend of 23-25.
Lucky - the 6N was always going to be the main platform for Lions selection. When the contenders are playing against each other. Then you may see some get in on the back of HC performances.

Yep, this is our game in hand. It's unfortunate for the players they miss a weeks holiday.
But looking forward to getting back to Ulster this weekend, really missed there not being a game this weekend.

Morning all. Today is a good day.
- logged into internet banking for my NZ account, and my folks have deposited ~£1000 to pay for my flights home in Feb
- Our manager just called us into a meeting, my team leader was going to be leaving to go to John Lewis on Friday, but has changed her mind and is staying . I guess she doesn't like snowmen.
- Finished watching the recording of the AB's match before work
- And I'm not quite as sore after yesterday's netball tournament as I expected

I watched it with Hound, I thought they did what they needed to do - held out Fiji's initial surge, then pounced once they'd run out of steam. Lancaster probably didn't learn a lot (except that having a 2nd playmaker in the backs is a good thing), but a nice place to start from.

I really enjoyed the Scotland - New Zealand game. Some of the All Blacks' play was superb - not flashy necessarily, but just simple and smart and executed so well - but I thought Scotland played some good stuff themselves. That pack is going to cause teams real problems in the Six Nations and the tries are coming now too. Richie Grey is one hell of a player.
Your replacement hooker looks quite a footballer, too, I'd never seen him play before.

Best bit for me was Denton knocking both McCaw and Franks off tackles....rarely happens!! I think Scotland just need better strike runners in the centres to boost them!

I can't add too much to that. We couldn't get the ball off Fiji for the first 15 minutes, and made a number of errors. Robshaw got the team back on track, and we started doing the basics well.
Once Alex Goode decided to come looking for the ball as a receiver we went up a gear. Deserved motm for him. Mind you we did fluff a couple of overlaps - can't be doing that against the next three teams.
Cole, Robshaw and Johnson were the pick of the forwards, with Waldrom becoming more influential after a very flaky start.
Goode, Tuilagi and Sharples were the pick of the backs.
It has to be said that Fiji did not have a scrum, and did not contest England's line outs, so our set piece stats looked good.

Swanny,
Can't let it wind you up Swanny. If it's what (or who) I'm thinking of.
Ignore it - the annoying behaviour. Don't buy into it too deeply.
Lead by example (he says... sounding like Gibbo )and hopefully try and brainwash them over to your way of thinking - that's the way. You know what I mean?

Afternoon. Quiet in here again.
Well, my long weekend is drawing to an end. Still, there are plenty of people with more to worry about.
My team of the weekend from the games I saw.
15. Goode (Eng)
14. Sharples (Eng)
13. Smith (NZ)
12. de Villers (SA)
11. Savea (NZ) - hon. men. for Visser (Sco).
10. Carter (NZ)
9. Pienaar (SA) - hon. men for Blair (Sco).
1. Grant (Sco)
2. Hore (NZ)
3. Cole (Eng)
4. Gray (Sco)
5. McCarthy (Ire)
6. Johnson (Eng) - would have been Thomson (NZ) but for the stamping.
7. McCaw (NZ) - hon. men. for Henry (Ire)
8. Vito (NZ)
I didn't see the Wales or France games.

Evenin' All Hope everyone's well and tidy.
There's been some Welsh moping about the rugby today. In a way, it's taking some of the credit from the Pumas because Wales were so rubbish, not that the Pumas did any good. I happen to think they played well and their inclusion into the (was Tri-Nations) Championship is very much in evidence.
Meanwhile...the sun always shines on TB...

Glas - as I said, it is compiled from the matches I saw. No doubt plenty of players from the two games I didn't see would have got in (esp. at 1, 2, 6 and 8) judging by the match reports.
Howya Cari. Yes, there has been much spleen venting on the Wales threads, with many blaming Howley. The players believe he is a very good coach though.

Ha! Yeah, Wales have had a tendency to go a bit flat after a GS.
The Telegraph's team of the weekend that differred from mine had Mermoz and Tuilagi at centre and Visser at 11.
Forestier, Strauss, and Jarvis at 123, Whitelock at lock for Gray, and Louw and J M Fernandez Lobbe at 6 & 8.

WillyG,
That reminds me of the sign my friend has in the bathroom.

Oh dear superbru:
Friendly warning
You have selected Scotland to win this game. This result will be considered quite an upset, so be sure about picking it.
Can someone invite me to the pub's group for a.i's again please!!

There's been some Welsh moping about the rugby today. In a way, it's taking some of the credit from the Pumas because Wales were so rubbish, not that the Pumas did any good. I happen to think they played well and their inclusion into the (was Tri-Nations) Championship is very much in evidence.
I agree with you Cari, people are forgetting the intensity that Argentina have been playing at in the Rugby Championship (who on earth gave it that name?). They showed some very good touches, that winger with the Russian-sounding name looks very promising.
