The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

One of my old pals just text me and he's actually coming round to watch the rugby with me Saturday. Even promised to stay for the Ireland match. Haven't met up with him for over a year. I'm glad though, cause I've missed him a bit

Old Pal? Not Gibbo is it?
I'll get the Ireland game in Bath and will sky plus the Welsh one. Should be a good day international wise. Kind of want to watch the AI's live, but I'm happy having a cider day in Bath.

Rev - heh heh, no. Gibbo's had his visit for this year. I'm looking forward to the AIs. I'm not having any expectations...just going to take them as they come. I just hope they're enjoyable matches to watch.

England are apparently looking to play a more adventurous game. Lancaster's got the first bit right. Farrell's not starting.
I did not buy into the new 'wunderkind' stuff our press were coming out with over Farrell during the 6N.

Because England sold their souls to Sky, I won't see any of their games - possibly the highlights they're showing on BBC3 afterwards. I would've watched them if they were on cheap telly too.

I suppose it (Sky coverage) is a pain, but I prefer watching the games in a pub with some pals. Wales and England both kick off at 2.30 on Sat anyway.
I know there was some concern on the Wales team thread about Knoyle starting, but he'll shift the ball away from that Argentine pack quicker than Phillips.
is Rhys Webb injured?

I think Rhys Webb is a little bit out of reckoning, as he's behind Kahn in the Ospreys reckoning too.

OK Rev/Cari. Webb looked pretty good in the HC last season from what I saw.
I watched the Os v Treviso at my hotel in Rovigo on a Wasps trip, and Webb + Beck were impressive that night. Can't remember the other game he looked pretty good in though.

Yeah, guys, it's quite mild here too, but tonight is one of Himself's 'at home' nights and he does love playing with the log burner. Absolutely no idea how to control it - yet - found him trying to get it to draw by opening the door earlier on. But, he's getting there. Dr Johnson: 'Much may be made of a Scotsman, if he be caught young'. Don't know where that leaves me, this particular one was second hand when I got him.

Recession? What recession?
Hang on. Is that a global fiscal cliff up ahead?
I'm so tired of that expression already. Also 'sequestration'.
Watching 'Fast Five' - a new variation on netball. I've no idea what it's about yet.
England 41 SA 27 final score
and in the cricket:
SA 255/2 at stumps.
Amla 90*
Kallis 84*
Went off for bad light. Thunderstorms predicted tomorrow.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, happy Friday!
Is that the first Test, Breaker? We didn't play at our absolute best against them this summer, but the Proteas are a hell of a side. Apart from that spinner of theirs there's no let-up in the bowling attack, and they have some immovable batsmen too.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Yeah, 1st Test in Brisbane, El Lucko.
Tahir wasn't picked for this one. No spinner selected which some experts say is a no-no. Rory Kleinfeldt made his Test debut. I saw him play last Friday at the SCG. He looked as good as Steyn! He got more wickets too.
Australia opted for 4 seamers but apart from Siddle - who had Amla 'caught' off his no-ball and Kallis dropped on a return catch.
Pattinson, Hilfenhaus already look fatigued. Lyon got a wicket but not much luck besides that. They had to bring on Rob Quiney (debut batsman who bowls a little) but he looked ordinary. Trivia: 4 Victorians in the team for the first time in ages... maybe 40-50 years?
The situation today was that Australia had to get 2 or 3 wickets early on where there was a bit of a green tinge... but it soon dried out to a near perfect batting wicket. Amla and Kallis looked relaxed and untroubled.
However, there is a huge storm approaching later tonight/early tomorrow. The whole complexion of the game could change then but it's already either a SA win or a draw.
Talking of storms, there were 2 violent storms in Sydney today but now it's clear blue skies lovely gentle sea breeze and the parrots are playing around outside.
At lunchtime it was black. It only lasted about 20-30 mins... then there was another hail storm which missed me but hit the Eastern Suburbs where Charlie & Camilla were visiting Bondi Beach. Their cruise this morning was very nice weather though. They've experienced some very extreme weather here recently.

I thought the Gabba was usually bowler-friendly, Breaker?
Willy, I remember getting fairly steaming with a friend and a woman from Mallow on a Swansea - Cork ferry. Every time someone tipped the 'landlord' he rang a bell and at closing time he flew a skull and crossbones above the bar and sang some old Greek sea shanty.

The pitches they use for the Shield matches have more life than the Test ones.
This one is very flat... Oz bowlers cannot extract much bounce at all. The ball sits up nicely and the SA batsmen seem to have plenty of time to play their strokes and are well in control.
I bet when Australia bat... we'll be 4/50 though!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Hashim Amla was a real limpet over here in the summer. Jacques Kallis doesn't usually give away his wicket either.
Then again, if you have the patience you should have as a batsman in the long (proper) form of the game, you should be hard to dismiss. Just defend well and wait for the bad ball (even if there are fewer bad balls in Test cricket). I think one-day cricket and Twenty20 has had a detrimental effect on some of our batsmen. They start to panic after a few dot balls and get out to shots that were never on.
No wonder Geoff Boycott gets so wound up!

I think he's just got an attitude and a face only a mother could love - He's up there with the Campeses, Ashton's and Austin Healeys in the popularity stakes. Priestland on the other hand is a likeable guy. I genuinely mean this makes a difference. I also think that Biggar only sleeps with himself, he prefers it that way

The captain lied. Sea is fairly choppy. Peeing on a rocking boat should really be an Olympic sport. I almost left a note of apology for the next guy to use the toilet.

The key is to aim at the floor Willy (no pun intended) that way your sure to hit the bowl. I know its counter-intuitive but it works - try it next time.

That's what I'm saying - Biggar doesn't help himself sometimes and he would greatly benefit from some good sport psychology IMO - He has all the attributes but lacks composure at key times and he lets the adrennalin drive his decision making only to regret it a split second later. My office is open if Cuddy wants to send him down - He'll benefit immensley.
