The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Damn, I forgot all about that, Breaker!
Cari and Hound, I do think that our (relative) success at the World Cup and the subsequent Grand Slam has glossed over a lot of things, mainly the predictability of our game. We played some good stuff against Ireland first up in the Six Nations, but even then we only just squeaked a win and we created fewer and fewer chances as the tournament progressed. Teams know what to expect from us. It's a simple, physical gameplan (not to mention unimaginative and frankly not very exciting to watch). We really don't play much football at all, which as I said on another thread is almost the betrayal of a heritage. We ask few questions of opposition defences and the questions we do ask, well they've had months if not years to come up with the answers to them. When we don't play Gatland's gameplan with intensity and pace, or we come up against teams whose physicality matches ours, we're clueless. Remember the game at Twickenham? We were out of ideas. Scott Williams got us out of jail in a big way.
Rob Howley is doing a rank bad job as attack coach.

Oh, that's right. My bad memory.
I watched that video a few weeks ago.... you were in a grassy area. Great environment for a walk.
It was hilarious to watch Lola go off to the side into the long grass, dart ahead up the track.... then drop back sniffing something... only to come bolting back when the Master called.

She's really good with recall - most of the time she doesn't even need to be called. That's the case even when there are other dogs around. She'll play with them for a bit but when I've walked on so far, she'll sprint after me.
I'm really lucky that I have a great place to walk her only a few minutes from the front door. She loves it up there.

She gets complimented quite a bit by other dog walkers. I'm worried it'll go to her head!
I tell you what's difficult, though: cleaning up after her when we have a sycamore in the back garden and there are leaves everywhere. Talk about camouflage...

Silly question guys, was it Munsty or Staggy that visited Ghana? A friend of mine is applying for a posting there.

I went to a birthday party once and was persuaded to have a pint of Guinness and black. Half an hour later, I was threw up on the birthday girl's mother's dress. Although in my defence, I was on my way to the toilets and it was her fault for crossing my path.

Ah, the evils of blackcurrant squash.
If you must have fruit flavours in your beer, Belgium provides plenty of fruit beers.
Who is this lad Lloyd Peers that Wales have called up? I know he's an O but I've never heard of him.

I'd never heard of Lloyd Peers until yesterday, Hound. It seems strange to be selecting him even if he ends up not playing. He could be a great player for all I know, but if he was, you'd think he'd have featured more for the Ospreys.

Gibbo Rogan Josh & cuddle sounds great. I have to say, the job that I am dealing with today is one of the saddest that I have dealt with in my career, and when I get home I dare say the will be some outward showing of emotion from me today.

Pete,
I really don't know how you manage to handle life at the cliff-edge of Society, yet still manage to stay ultra-sane and be a great Da. I really don't. I'd blow in a day.
Respect. And thanks mate.
Believe.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Absolutely Cari, and days like these make me even more grateful for Mrs O and the wee ones. I've just come back from an address where I had to leave a 3 week old baby with it's great aunt as it's mother sadly passed away yesterday. At the moment we don't think it's suspicious, just an untimely death, but unfortunately as is the way with most things these days, there are some very muddy waters which means we have to treat it as suspicious until we can prove otherwise. It's the hardest balancing act of all in my job maintaining the professionalism that we have to when dealing with these kinds of things, whilst also showing compassion for the people who are suffering.
Am glad I have a couple of cold ones in the fridge for when I get home later.

Gibbo, that's the first time I've been called sane for many a long year! You'd be grand doing this job mate, most of the time it's just money for old rope, so long as you can talk to people.
I just keep it simple. First question to myself at any incident is always "would my nan be happy with what just happened?" If the answer is no, then sure there's an offence in there somewhere for me to deal with!

Awh that's sad. I can see why all deaths have to be treated as suspicious. In some cases it's just as well. Yours (like many others) is a thankless but essential job that most people just don't understand.
Anyway, you'll be home soon with a drinkie and your family to hand.

Mate, Id take an AK47 with me and wipe them all out at source.
Nah, I'm far too soft and intrinsically angry at Society's injustices, all at the same time, to do your job man. Being gentle and hard at the same time, doesn't mix with me.
I'm either one or t'other. It takes a real man to do your job properly. And guess what?
I mean that.
