The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Oh, I don't know about that, I can think of worse things to be compared to than a Wallaby, not many sure, but there are a few.
To think some of these smaller rugby playing nations have the nerve to call US arrogant, whatever next?
Bloody nerve!
There's no shortage of complete and utter bunkum flying around the rugby traps.
Right, I'm going out to dig another hole... and call this one "Iowa".

Wales team up. I am amazed, astounded and confused. Probably the team I was hoping for (not exactly the same, but hey!). If they now don't perform Howley's credibility as a coach has gone. This is the strongest team he has available.

My only qualms are over Bradley Davies (I don't rate him, I'd have gone for Charteris) and Ashley Beck (questionable defence and we select him against Samoa).
Also, when was the last time Phillips and Biggar played together at half back?

In training.
Scott Andrews is the weak link on the bench. I think Charteris can have a big influence coming on, so don't much mind that he starts on the bench. Jenkins gets an extraordinarily cheap cap. Everybody knows Duncan should be there, probably with Steve Jones on form but that was never going to happen

Fair play to Howley for having the balls to make these changes even though it's an admission that he got selection wrong for the first match; but I've said it before, changes of personnel will only make so much difference if the gameplan remains the same.

It's a sign of weakness in my view. He has just caved to public pressure and gone for his best team. I'm sure he'd have had more of last weeks players in if the result had been close.

I don't care if it is weakness, it's resulted in a side that reflects form (in the main). Another man would have been stubborn and made fewer changes.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Howley thinks this is his only chance of a win in the next three games and is risking injuring his better players to try and get that win. We will have injuries against Samoa, who doesn't? We will go into the All Blacks game weak and demoralised. Should have picked this team last week and given squad players a run this.

I think he should have played the best XV available from the off. All Test matches should be must-win games, but these four especially so given the whole rankings - seeding thing. This was never (or shouldn't have been) the time for squad rotation. (If the WRU hadn't arranged a fourth match, then it would have asked less of the players to play successive weekends).

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Awright folks.
Glas, I reckon Howley would have done the reverse if he could –i.e. picked this week’s team last week. However, I feel that the WRU wanted to send out a message to those players who are playing in France who could not attend the training in Poland. It may be the coaching staff sending that message, but they are employed by the WRU.
That’s fine, but then don’t include them in the squad at all. Mind you that would be shooting yourself in the foot with all the injuries.

How can you argue with that?
The WRU retweeted a lady who stated that she was excited about going to the match as it was her "first ever live rugby match"
Now, the WRU can not be responsible for vetting ticket sales, but surely to everything holy they should not glorify the glory hunters!

Hound, we should treat France as "Le 5eme Région" let their sugar daddies pay the top wages of our stars and improve them as players. What is the problem?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
I don't have a problem with players playing in France - it'll either improve them as players or show that they weren't that good to begin with. I can understand why the WRU don't like it, because it means more players unavailable for the fixtures they arrange outside the international window.

God darn it the project I'm on hasn't moved as quickly as expected...looks like it won't kick off now until well into the new year...... which means I might be on 606 a lot more over the festive period! .....

Ah, like wot Ireland do. Send their 'not quite good enough' forwards to them Prem clubs to polish them up a bit.

Yes. Seriously though, if the Welsh regions are feeder clubs to France, we have to make sure that it is welsh players coming in to replace them. Forget the HC.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Glas - the T14 is a tough league. Hook reckons the teams have really tightened up their defemsive attitude, which is why the try count has gone down there.
The issue is about obtaining release clauses in the players'contracts so they can attend training get togethers. The catch is that they wouldn't be offered the contracts they're on.
It's not an easy one for all concerned.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Good evening pubbers
I haven't had time to fart today (just as well ) it's been bonkers. Got a squiz at the Welsh team at lunch time on the Wales news. I think that's probably the most decent side we're going to get at the moment. I'm glad to see Ryan Jones back at the helm, Beck get a start and Biggar at ten. Hopefully it'll be a good game.
Everyone's fine and dandy I hope.

I meant to add that Lancaster has all but abandoned our French contingent unless their are 'exceptional circumstances'.
Tis ok for us though as we probably still have a huge pool of players to dip into. Not to mention the odd itinerant Kiwi, Saffer, Samoan etc.

Evening Cari. Just as well you don't work in a phone box.
I haven't seen Beck play that often, but when I have he's impressed. Treviso away in the HC last season springs to mind (I watched that one in Rovigo).
He reminds me a bit of Tom Shanklin, who always played well against England.

Oh dear, did Engerland losey-wosey? Again?
Wetters.
I've been dealing with the Police tonight, needless to say all is not well at Chez Holybloke.
Thoroughly, thoroughly, unhappy. The Police have enough to do without running around after wannabee Banksy's.
More to the point, if you get nicked, man-up and take it, don't go tearing off
like a whizzed-up ferret, make the coppers work hard for a fair collar and bring 'em back here anyway coz you're sh!t at bolting.
Honestly, you can't belt 'em because it's not fair, but they can be complete bumhole gobshoites because that's fair?
Give me 5 minutes with the terw@t that came up with that one.
I bet THEY never had teenaged kids.

Wales v Samoa on Friday is looking likely at The Thornbury Castle. Some of the regs may remember that pub.
I still have Penfro's 'pressie'.
A can of wasp spray.
As Gibbo would say "The pub rocks".

Morning everyone,
Swanny has bowled well. Run rate is slowing down significantly now. They were heading for well over 400 runs on the 1st Day with Sehwag at the crease.
