The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Colwyn Bay, where the Tier 2 AIs are currently taking place.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Bob Scott and Malele Kunavore above the bar.

That was just vertigo from becoming top-ranked Test side in the world. Wales don't have to worry about that!

You can add the South African cricket team to the list too now.
Poor buggers. Rotten luck with injuries.

Rodders, I've just done my Sportbru and I went for Wales by 8. I got this:
'Friendly warning
You have selected Wales to win this game. This result will be considered quite an upset, so be sure about picking it.'

Sports Bru will be eating a bit of humble pie this weekend then
We're going to see Wales side with the key GS units back in place - Warburton, Priestland, Roberts, Davies - plus an inform Ryan Jones and a very dangerous back 3. Wales have their backs to the wall and Gatland will have them fired up.
If the set piece is solid then the ABs won't know what's hit them..... ...

It would be a shock, seeing as we haven't beaten New Zealand since 1953, but we're at home and we won the Grand Slam not so long ago (some posters here may have mentioned it). So a shock, but not out of the question.

It is possible I suppose. I think France might be favourites for it in 2013 though.

I haven't seen either of France's games this autumn, but it sounds like they're getting back to their best. It's great for the game, because when France are on song they're fantastic to watch.

So in many respects France are a bit like Ebbw Vale then?

Ebbw is the river (Ebwy in Welsh). Do you need me to explain the 'Vale' bit?

No need.
'Eb' is also an old Hungarian slang word for dog. "kutya".
I was kind of hoping it meant Vale of Mutts.

Here you go LB - EBBW VALE
EBBW VALE / GLYNEBWY (Gwe) Ebboth Fawr (1296). Earliest record: Eboth (river name) (1101-20). Meaning: Ebbw Vale, ‘the vale of River Ebwy', is an artificial 19th century name. Ebwy comes from WELSH eb- ‘horse' and either gwyth ‘anger' or gwydd ‘wild'. WELSH glyn means ‘glen'.

One positive in the Irish team announcement - it was on time.
Actually 2 if you include Gilroy getting his first cap. Same old same old though.

George North's out. Liam Williams steps in, but they should be moving Halfpenny to the wing.

Wow. I might give the 'old coathanger' a lick next time I walk over it. I'm only 2 traffic lights... about 3 km from it.
I know the stone came from Moruya which is a nice little town on the Sapphire Coast (southern NSW).
We used to say to the old man "we're gonna take the eb for a walk..."
I always think of that when I see Ebbw Vale.

I'm not too upset that George North is out. He's been great for us, but not recently, and Liam Williams is a slippery customer. I'm excited to see how he goes - and it's good that there's another couple of Scarlets in the backs who'll be on the same wavelength as him.

Evening All
Hope everyone's well. I think I'm what's described as "tired and emotional" right now. Can't wait for the weekend. Had a long convo on the bus with this dude who works in my building - bascially we b*tched about Welsh rugby. Would've done some overtime on the day of the Oz game next week but work changed the date to the following week when I'm on leave. Still think I might try and boycott it. Gutted about Hanno Dirksen's injury too. At least Tommy's playing on Saturday...every cloud...oh yeah and well done Gilroy for getting noticed.
