2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
First topic message reminder :
The discussion(s) continue here guys.
Unbelievable win for the Canaries tonight which see's Man City top for the first time this season, will they hold on.
QPR - still without a win - look doomed and Aston Villa drop into the bottom 3.

If your boys pepper the City goal with long shots then I'm sure one or two will sneak past Joe Hart such is his form this season.
I'll go with 2-2.
I'll go with 2-2.

Pitch inspection at OT. Must be the usual weather in Manchester!! Wouldn't mind the game being called off at all.

I'll get in there first: It was neither a dive nor a penalty. There was contact but not enough to warrant a penalty.

Despite being away, Wigan have stuck 3 past Villa already. Massive massive crisis for Villa.

It's not just the batterings but the damage on their goal difference also.

That was the most inept refereeing performance I have ever seen by a referee. Mike Jones had no control over that game right from when City scored there 2nd and Kompany seemed to foul Johnson in the build up (from where I was sitting, also looked no worse than Bassong's on Nasri so either both are a foul or both are not)
Great game though! I genuinely feared at 2-0 after 4 minutes but we showed great character and grit to come back

Watch the so called, "foul" from which our first goal is scored. Never in a million years.
Pathetic refereeing in general. Mike Jones again. Same guy who did Arsenal-West Brom and who was pathetic when we had him in the Everton-Norwich game earlier in the season.

Yeah of course, good to see vidic back with a string performance.
WBA got on too of us very easily in second half and overall the game was scrappy.
God arsenals defense is poor.

What is it with Newcastle and high scoring games? They must have been involved in a dozen + 4-3's over the years.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
I think the right decision was made with regards to Van Persie starting on the bench. With the pitch cutting up he could have been injured and we all know how fragile he is. Plus with that rain he could have drowned!! Anyway, Utd played West Brom at the right time with their injuries so that was a good bit of luck.

They can't defend would be the major reason.

Lazy defending all round here, just not getting into positions to defend crosses.

I've decided: Walcott reminds me of Nani. Unstoppable on his day but it comes with far too many mediocre (and some downright awful) performances for him to be a great player.

Anything in Arsenal looking a lot sharper in the last 20 mins than Newcastle, nothing to do with them not playing on Boxing Day I'm sure

Only thing about him though is what his best position is. Is it behind the striker, the most attacking of a midfield 3 or part of a midfield 2

Either or; probably just behind the striker as I think AM is his best position. And he does score screamers!!

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
To be fair our second came from a corner which he forced with a long range drive!!
I would tend to agree but I think he would probably be best being the most attacking of a midfield 3 in the system Liverpool play/Swansea last season.

Absolutely shameful dive again from Bale today. What is worse is the sky pundits saying it is a foul.
Does having the slightest if contact make your leg stiffen up and fall over.
The guy is a blatant cheat and the ref got it spot on.

I would say so yes. Maybe more of a 4-5-1/4-3-3 guy imo. Not sure he is suited to the 4-4-1-1 tbh

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
I know none of us know what it's like to be clipped running at that pace but surely Bale should just stay on his feet?
He has been booked 5 times for diving in 2012 that is damning as players don't get booked 9/10 for dives.
Just seen his interview saying about the contact and whilst it was very slight it was on his thigh - why does that make his foot turn 90 degrees and slide along the ground as he falls forward?

It makes him do that because he is a disgraceful cheat. Running, even at that pace, does not make you fall over when you get the slightest contact.

How long before we get a diving committee? Very simple idea, any dive that gets seen via video evidence is an instant 3 match ban.

How do you class a dive? Going down with no contact? Or going down when in your opinion a player shouldn't have?
Pundits often make the points that players like Bale, Suarez, Ronaldo can see that a defender is about to tackle them and attempt to ride the tackle before it happens forcing themselves off balance, so when the tackle does arrive any contact just emphasises the lack of balance and stops them being able to regain their feet.
Not saying this was the case yesterday but there is definate contact, I can't say for 100% if you run as fast as those guys how much contact it takes to knock you off balance. Bales problem is he makes his fall look more theatric than needed.

At the end of the day it is a contact sport, being brushed and going down in a completely unnatural manner is diving.

Being quicker than the defender and trying to avoid the tackle, going off balance and then going over from a small amount of contact? Do you consider that diving?
To me that's clever play because if he gets passed the defender he could have a scoring chance if he doesn't and the defender makes contact it's a freekick.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
My view on the Bale incident yesterday, yes there was contact but what Bale says about if theres contact you're not diving is ridiculous, think Bale could have easily stayed on his feet yesterday and thats why it was a dive, if you can stay on your feet and choose to hit the floor, simple.
MOTD highlighted Aguero, chose to stay on his feet to have a shot yesterday when he could have dived, but also his premier league winning goal last season, he was clipped just before he took the shot but stayed on his feet. Exactly how players should be.
