The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Amaile on the eastern-most tip of Upolu Island in Samoa - the first place on Earth to usher in the New Year.
So hop on a hammock and let one of the locals pour a kava down your throat as you are trying to read Tusiata Avia's famous poem: "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" to the sounds of the Yandell Sister's "Sweet Inspiration" blaring in the background.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of George Pisi, Census Johnston, Paul Williams, Tony Greig, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Mike Nicholls, Babsy and Jeremy Su'a above the bar.

I'll watch it tomorrow when/if I get back home, Hound. I am gutted to hear certain things like chargedowns and missed kicks again. There we go. It wouldn't have meant a great deal had we have won.

Thanks Breaker, but I only copy things so it's not really a massive leap away from painting by numbers.
Let me know if you want someone or something painting and I'll put it on the list. Same goes for everyone else.

Please, not another Audrey, not now. I did a Juan Smith for Biltong, I loved doing that one because it was a first and he's just chock full of character.
Audrey is beautiful, but a little bit vacuous, if you know what I mean?
Have a think, there's no rush as I've got a month or so queued up already.

Rev, your guys are short of a bit of composure and belief (different head coach needed?). Plus Prydie had an awful evening kicking his points.
We got out of jail.
We are now likely to get a HC dropout or Bath away.

Well, our landing could do with a coat or 2 of emulsion.

Trust you MrsP, I don't decorate my own house. I hate decorating with a passion that borders on psychopathic.
In short, that's a "no" lady, I'd rather paint another Audrey.

A talent like that shouldn't be wasting his time with emulsion when he can be creating things of beauty such as you have shown!

Go MrP! Lambswool roller only though, they're by far and away the best, you can't overload them and you get very little spottle off of them...
Or so I've heard.
Once.
I really want to paint Nevin at some stage this year, I have a cracking photo of him that I think would make a great painting...
Anyone?

Why not do one of Nevin anyway and auction it off at Ulster for charity/remembrance? I'm sure it would go down very well.

I'd rather not sell one Breaker, even though it would be for a good cause, I just wouldn't feel comfortable having a monetary value attached.
I just love painting and get my buzz from people I know, liking what they get... OK, there's always the chance that they're bullshining me, but I can live with that too, because that would be them missing the point, not me.
Does that make sense?
Anyhoo, I would MrsP, I'll add Nevin to the list and put your name on it.
I'd say fight it out with Breaker, but I really like the guy and he's still young and has a great future. I've seen it.
But I'm off the landing gig, yeah?

Yeah it makes sense, PJ.
It's 38.8 degrees here now. Walking out the door is like when you open a convection oven in the kitchen and you get that burst of hot air in your face.

This is Biltong's Juan.
He's got so much character, I just loved painting him.
It's minus 2 here at the minute and I can't feel my legs.
No matter though, I'm lying down.

I had 'issues' with mystiroakey for overuse of the word ... the lower case bit drove me bananas! (not really)
Just back from lunch. 43 degrees outside. Half-dressed-zombies everywhere!
An pretty Asian girl (wearing next to nothing I might add) looked in a severe state distress..... until I smiled at her. Poor thing.
P.S. not watching the Lance Armstrong interview... "yes or no?"

Morning all, no snow here so that's good news, looks like the weather "experts" have set themselves up for a massive fail, again.
What's with the zombie infestation Breaker?
Glas, I mean there's not much expression in her face, nothing to try and "capture", lacking in character... I fdon't know what I mean really.

Hound_of_Harrow wrote:Nah Rev, it was a scraped win, but thanks. The worst we've played for a few weeks, but that was down to a good strategy from Dragons.
Make us play from deep and put pressure on us; Varndell and Wade hardly got a sniff. Cudd was excellent for you, and I called him MOTM before it was announced. I hope he doesn't get cited for the tackle on Wade. More momentum than anything.
For us Poff was brainless ans gave away daft penalties that killed our momentum.
Good luck bud.
I was really annoyed with how much ball we kicked last night, first half in particular, but now you mention it, it might not have been as brainless as it appeared. It's just frustrating seeing us kick when we can score tries like Dan Evans's when we keep ball in hand.
Tom Prydie didn't have the best game with the boot, but it doesn't make him a bad player, just as Dan Biggar's missed kicks against Leicester don't make him a bad player. It's just one of those things (or three of them). That said, he shouldn't be at full back for us. Dan Evans should he at 15 with Steffan Jones at 10. If Prydie isn't good enough for a wing spot, then so be it.
Mike Poole is a brilliant player to watch. He has no regard whatsoever for his personal safety. He absolutely clattered a Wasps player (lock?) and brought down Christian Wade more than a couple of times - just as well he did, he was a player I was worried about.
I thought Nic Cudd was going to see yellow at least for that tackle, but no. Maybe the Wasps players should have appealed to the ref, it seemed to work for them the rest of the time.

It actually was the hottest day ever (since records began) for Sydney. 45.8 - 46.5 degrees at around 3pm. Now around 35 at 7pm.

Not so bad now. It was only really bad for a few hours - if you were outdoors.
I was indoors most of the day and escaped the radiation. When I went out to the balcony however.... it was incredible!
Big grey clouds here now along with the south-easterly change. Just in from a swim too which takes the edge off things.
Not like Dubai where it's like this every day for weeks... although Alice Springs has had over 40 deg every day (except today) since January 1.

I have no desire whatsoever to visit Dubai. I know some people rave about it, but it's not for me. It's all artificial. There isn't even a river. It's a monumental waste of resources, not least water.
I've just phoned the boss - I'm on my way home!

Morning Everyone!
Snowing heavily here in the Capital. Apparently my bus is still running. I find that hard to believe though because many others have been cancelled or severely disrupted at best including some that go through the same roads. I wasn't willing to risk it because I'm 13 miles away so work were OK with that. Just going to stay in and keep warm...although I may need to pop out tot he supermarket later....if there's anything left in it!
For those of you travelling, most of South Wales is affected on all forms of public transport, and parts of the M4 is closed. Be safe everyone!

Lucky,
There's Dubai Creek which is about 3/4km wide at the mouth but only goes about 5-6km inland. They are extending it around another 5km back to the Gulf and building all sorts of crazy things there. You're right though... it's nothing spectacular geographically! I'd go there again for a short stopover but not for more than a day or 2 at the most.

Prop - I see your point, but not everyone's taking the proverbial. I work 13 miles away and have to rely on buses only. If they stop running I'm knackered. Driving conditions must be bad as well having read their updates. I really struggled with my conscience this morning, but decided that it's best for me to stay home and take it out of my annual leave (most people don't and expect special leave). I spoke to my Team Leader yesterday about it and she agreed that I shouldn't try and come in if things are bad. It's not about getting to work and working, I don't have a problem with that, I just don't want to be stuck in the sticks trying to get home. I'm the only person in my office who lives this side of work as well, so I wouldn't get a lift either.

You are definately doing the right thing Cari.
It is silly to undertake an unecessary journey in poor conditions. Far better stay home safe than have someone have to rescue you.
Prop has a point though. Different people have a different view and will take any excuse to have a day off. There is a school just by us that closes every year with the first 2 flakes of snow. We drive by it to get our kids to school. They have to balance the risks though. If they happen to have a large proportion of their staff who would have trouble getting in then there would be no one to teach the kids if/when they get there so it's better to close early rather than waste everyone's time trying to make it.
Everyone has to make their own judgment depending on their own circumstances.

I had a major skid coming off the docks. It's so counter-intuitive to steer into the skid.
The pup has now seen snow for the first time. She didn't know what to make of it. She worked out it was edible before she worked out it was okay to wee on it. I'll take her up the fort later, should be fun!
I'd never heard of Dubai Creek, Breaker. I should listen to Wittgenstein: "Whereof one cannot speak, thereon one must be silent."

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
I remember our dog's first encounter with snow.
She was only about 10 weeks old and the snow was very heavy. Her legs weren't long enough to walk in the depth of snow in our garden so she had to bound along.
She loved it but I had to take her in as she was getting exhausted and I was worried she was too cold since she was constantly buried up to her middle in the stuff.
She still loves it. She will try to fetch snowballs and look completely bemused when they "vanish" before her eyes. Everytime!!!!
She will then come in with enormous balls of snow dangling from her fur that take ages to thaw out and leave huge puddles around the house.
Great fun!!
