The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Amaile on the eastern-most tip of Upolu Island in Samoa - the first place on Earth to usher in the New Year.
So hop on a hammock and let one of the locals pour a kava down your throat as you are trying to read Tusiata Avia's famous poem: "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" to the sounds of the Yandell Sister's "Sweet Inspiration" blaring in the background.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of George Pisi, Census Johnston, Paul Williams, Tony Greig, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Mike Nicholls, Babsy and Jeremy Su'a above the bar.

RED WARNING of SNOW for parts of southeast Wales.
'A band of snow, heavy in places, will spread northeastwards across Wales and the southwestern half of England, during Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon and evening across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern and parts of southeast England. Winds will strengthen, leading to drifting of lying snow.
Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption. The public should avoid all non-essential journeys.'

None here at the moment either, but it's on its way, I can feel it. David Bowie just walked past the office wearing that scarf of his.

Ed my apprentice has just drilled through a water pipe. Fortunately it wasn't an important one, just the central heating.

That's ok, my brother in law put one of those picture hooks into a live cable. It was lucky his mate was an electrician, noticed the location of the picture immediately above a socket and had his lighty up screwdriver with him!

Joy. Bloody burst pipe this afternoon so had to rush home from work early as the wife phoned me in blind panic as there was water pishing out everywhere. Fortunately we have British Gas homecare cover and the emergency plumber has just left having sorted it for us!

Hugo Southwell is a very underrated player. Never did it at international level, but he often looks good at this level. I don't see a lot of Wasps to be fair, but he stood out in a poor Stade Francais side a few years ago.

He's the grafter that keeps the Wasps backline in check defensively Notch, if Shug isn't there Wasps can look very fragile.

He's a good clubman imo. He does everything very well, doesn't necessarily get talked about but does all the little things that add up to make a big difference in games exceptionally well. Maybe he's the Scottish Paddy Wallace!
Unfortunately this game is sort of pootling along without very much intensity.

Dragons don't like to mix it up do they?
Southwell is a great organiser and is constantly talking to his midfield and wings, organising and marshalling in defence and running some tidy lines on the front foot.
Like you say, a really good club man who's never really made the step up at Test level.
Oh! something interesting happened...

Indeed.
Very interesting call; penalty try given for flankers not binding. First scrum too. Don't see that very often.

Evening Gents
So, we're supposed to be getting dumped on by an enormous amount of snow tonight....what's the betting Cardiff won't get any and I'll have to go to work tomorrow? I'm secretly hoping I'll have to stay home. My boss is OK about it though...well, they will rent buildings that are all out in the sticks. Half the office won't be in tomorrow. They were going around today coming up with contingency plans...mine is, get up, look out the window, check the bus website and then go back to bed
Hope eveyone's safe and warm

Penalty tries seem to be more popular with refs recently, I have to be honest, when a scrum splinters like that 5 metres out and it's going backwards fast, I'd rather see the penalty try than more resets.
You never know, it might keep scrums honest if they keep it up.
But yes, not a great spectacle so far, it does seem to be a bit "low key"?
Evening Cari.
I've got a worktop change booked in for tomorrow, it should be a case of start at 8.00 finish at 3.00 and come home £280 richer (for my weekend spending), it's in the balance at the moment...

Confident predictions of lots of snow for five minutes. But in there was a little sentence.
"The cold air from the East will probably win the battle leading to heavy snow"
So they still don't know.
Personally I hope the A48/A40 stay clear as I have my mate's gran's funeral in Whitland at 2. He's had a rough two years and was 40 today. I'll drive the blydi tractor there if I have to.

That could be a penalty try against Varndell; maybe the ref should have went upstairs as its in goal?

They had bad snow in Lampeter today I saw it on the Welsh news. Still, a tractor's not a bad way to travel

Absolutely, 100% agree. It's just strange to see it given for flankers not binding when they haven't made a tackle, if you get me. The Varndell thing there was a more clear cut pen try for me.

Wonderful try by Nicky Robinson there. The crowd seems subdued- just because Wasps are already through, or because its the Amlin or...?

Not great to be honest Cari, I was supposed to have 15 days off over Christmas/New Year, but I had 7 off and then worked the next 11 straight through, I'm not going to be doing much painting this weekend either, unless you count "the town red".
I've done a lot of the boring block work, but I still need to finish off the blacking before moving onto the greyscales.
Here he is:
- Spoiler:
Here's the Audrey Hepburn I did over Christmas, so you should get an idea of how he'll finish up, toning-wise that is, he wont actually look like Audrey, obviously. Well, I hope not anyway.
- Spoiler:
It'll probably be another couple of weeks, sorry bab.

Any snow yet mate?
Do you have special fluorescent scarlet woolly pullovers for the texels... or are they a tough lot?
Super hot here today. More 'Catastrophic' warnings all over the place. William Hague will need to take precautions if he ventures out today.... just like the rest of us.

Nah Rev, it was a scraped win, but thanks. The worst we've played for a few weeks, but that was down to a good strategy from Dragons.
Make us play from deep and put pressure on us; Varndell and Wade hardly got a sniff. Cudd was excellent for you, and I called him MOTM before it was announced. I hope he doesn't get cited for the tackle on Wade. More momentum than anything.
For us Poff was brainless ans gave away daft penalties that killed our momentum.
Good luck bud.
