The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the original Walkabout pub in London's Covent Garden, as it is set to close its doors at the end of the month.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Mark Ella or recent birthday boys Gibson and Glas a du above the bar.

I will say you have lovely staff at the ticket office there. Very nice people who know their onions when it comes to rugby.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
Jonny Tickets is a top bloke. (Fancy his name actually being that?). They've had new staff in there, so it seems better aye. There used to be (pretty much) a proper Newportonian (towny) who used to have to hold the fort on her own, bless her.

MrsP - I don't believe what that story says about a gang hating foreign rugby players being in their country. I would believe it if the gang were racist/xenophobic about all foreigners, but just rugby players? Doesn't make sense...either there's something about Collins in particular they don't like, there's some sort of corruption involved or he's more involved with gangs than he's letting on and he's got himself into some bother or other. Shane Williams has been happily and safely living in Japan along with his wife and two kids since he retired and the only issue he has with the place is the language.
Rodders - all public bodies have to make that type of information available (it may be heavily edited for the general public though). Most would publish their accounts and things in the form of an annual business report or audit report. You can try a Freedom of Information Act request:

Evening Laurie .... Morning Others
So the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. Those Brazilians are so possessive, aren't they!
What about poor Jesse Ryder? He's in an induced coma after being set upon by some thugs in a ChCh bar.

It's all the fault of a blooming Welshman too!!!!!
Thanks for the info Laurie!
Very odd situation indeed. And a very strange quote from his manager,
"Collins said he had been targeted by a Brazilian gang, which was pursuing him through the city.
Mr Castles told RadioLive Collins had been in a relationship with a woman who had prior links with the gang.
"It's as simple as that, rather than anything sinister as has been some speculation,'' he said"
Now I may be wrong but I think being pursued by Brazilian gang counts as sinister in most folk's books!

I like how 'sinister' has come to mean what we use it to mean, considering its etymology. I like etymology. I'm a big geek really.

Maybe he didn't buy her enough bling, MrsP?
I've just heard a nice rendition of our National Anthem from Greta Bradman - the Don's Grand-daughter.
She hit a very high note at the end... very operatic and powerful stuff. (Carlton - Tigers match at the MCG)

Lucky,
Was the left side named "sinister" because it was thought to be evil or were evil things called after the left side?
ie. Did it mean "left" or "evil" first?

In Ghana, it is considered highly disrespectful to ever eat any food using your left hand. Its an insult to use the left hand when shaking hands with someone.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
That would be the case in any Muslim society too I think Stag.
The left hand is used for any bodily function and the right reserved for eating and greeting etc.

It's the same on the Indian subcontinent - but that's more because you're supposed to use your left hand for, er, cleaning yourself. It's a logical, hygienic reason - less chance of cross-contamination.

Ah yea its the same reasons in Africa but just interesting that all these cultures designate the left for the dirty stuff and the right for the clean stuff.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
It's hard to remember not to wave with your left hand when I'm in these type of countries, because often it's just a reflex action. Easy not to shake hands with your left, as only weirdos would do that anyway.
I bet Stag does.

And whatever you do - never pat someone on the head or shoulder with your left hand.

It's really bad that they used to force people who were naturally left-handed to write with their right hand. I've heard that it can be a cause of stuttering to force that kind of change on a child.

My mum's left-handed but was never forced to use her right.
One thing I like is that we clap to show our approval. I always imagine someone doing a nature programme on humans: 'see how they bang their hands together.' It's a bit absurd.

I'm a leftie and I was forced by one teacher (in 1973) to write with the wrist turned/elbow into the ribs - so that the pen was facing straight out (at 12 o'clock) rather than the way you see Obama sign things... with the wrist at about 4:30/elbow swung out. It was really awkward. As soon as I could - I switched back to the natural way.

Kurtley Beale has been indefinitely stood down from the Rebels.
Sea Eagles lead the Tigers 4-0 at HT in Gosford.
Richmond Tigers leading Carlton Blues 60-30 HT at the G.
Big crowd (85,000+) for the first match of the Easter Split Round.

P2 and P5 are left handed. There are all sorts of interesting developmental things which are linked to how "left-handed" a child is.

Ah, so I have an excuse for my occasional stutter.
Morning all.
Signal failure at Queensway completely wrecked the Central Line this morning, and I arrrived at the station 1 minute too late to catch the overground at 8.15, had to wait for the 8.45. Which meant I got in to the office at 9.55, 10 minutes late for a teleconference. Mutter mutter mutter.
But at least it's sunny
Sad news on Jesse Ryder, sadly one side effect of the earthquake is a big reduction in the number of bars, and you wind up with err rougher elements drinking in places that used to be quite nice

He had a rumble with Vuna and Delve in South Africa. Didn't you hear about it?
Basically, 'everyone' here is at the end of their tether with all this continual bad behaviour - across all codes - and the more radical ones are calling for him to be tossed out of the Wallabies. "We don't need that sort of behaviour in a Lion's Tour year type of thing..."
However, others believe he should step aside and cool down (similar to Ben Barba for the NRL Bulldogs... he's playing tomorrow night after missing the first few rounds) and get help / get himself back on the rails. It's a mental thing - maybe that plus his drinking. They'll give him a chance to redeem himself I'm pretty sure.

Ha ha. Not quite.
Strong elements of that form the historical backbone of the Institutions, etc - but in reality it's a very dynamic and progressive mix of cultures and ideas these days. Pioneering is our middle name - it had to be due to the tyranny of distance, etc.
Our pockets of landed gentry (descendants of the 'Squattocracy' for example)... make up a tiny part of the population.
I'd say that American and Asian 'values' are at the fore of current culture (the change-over was maybe in the early-mid 80s?) - but with a British style rule of Law and value system as well.

Cucumber sandwich anyone?
Morning folks.
Sorry I missed prop yesterday. I got the impression he was whizzing round London snapping him and his pal for the day. By the time I got the message from kiwi that he was actually going to be 'static' for a while, I had got into a round with half a dozen pals at my local.
I hope you had a good day bud
