The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the original Walkabout pub in London's Covent Garden, as it is set to close its doors at the end of the month.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Mark Ella or recent birthday boys Gibson and Glas a du above the bar.

Sunshine! Blue skies! Hurrah!!
Why are hat boxes so flippin' expensive?! They're only made of cardboard! Ridiculous!

Sorry Lucky, was just thinking out loud.
I've got a cold so I'm proper grumpy and prone to overreaction! A wee bottle of brandy may well be acquired later... that should sort out the grumps

Me neither Lucky, it's not something I normally drink. However I have a cold and so, for strictly medicinal purposes, I'll partake of a drop or two
At least I'll be able to taste it. Milky tea is quite frankly at the moment, which is most unusual for me, I'm normally a tea jenny. Drinking fruit teas instead and eating treacle toffee!
I'm making a simnel cake tonight so a baking and brandy evening should put me in rather less grumpy mood. Heaven only knows how the simnel cake wil turn out though!

See you later!

OK its just come to my attention that the magnetic poles are shifting leading to a weakening of the Jet stream and likely another ice age for northern Europe amongst other pretty bad things...... just investigating here, will be back when I know more .....

Evening All
I'm watching Ireland v England in the 2011 Six Nations care of DVD someone made for me. Gawd that was a great match and Tommy looked yummier than ever.
Hope everyone's well and looking forward to the Easter break. I've got a busy weekend planned including heading to the Judgement Day event on Saturday. UP THE O's!!!

Good for you Cari!
This "Judgement Day" thing, one ticket gets you both games?
Why did they call it that?

Yeah it's £25 for both matches and whatever's inbetween... As for the rather unimaginative title I've no idea what it has to do with the four regions...well, I suppose it is Judgement Day for the Scarlets and O's because of their positions with the top four (Scarlets just outside below O's) in the P-12 table.

Yeah...I'm not sure what other "exciting" marketing name they could give it...
awh Tommy's just scored his try. I miss him. Can't wait until he plays again.

Evening Swanny! Have you still got a lot of snow about? We had a flurry of it last night but nothing significant. It was actually a beautiful Spring day here today...well, when you were stood indoors out of the Baltic cold!

I headed into town today and caught the bus home. The footpaths where I got off the bus, (just by where we had lunch with Rava Cari), are almost impassable. I knew our place was bad but I thought the footpaths would have been cleared a bit by now.

It's quite hilly up there though isn't it MrsP? I hope you didn't slip! I'm surprised the bus got up there too. I suppose the main roads are kept clear though. In 2010 when most of December was frozen I remember struggling to walk to work on icy pavements. They only gritted the roads.

Alright Cari? Not much left here but there's still lots on the tops apparently. Big drifts more than anything though, the roads have re-opened except a few further north that are notorious in bad weather. Been a nice day here too actually, surprisingly warm in the sunshine. Or maybe that's just in comparison to the last week!

Yeah I'm good Swanny. Hope you're well and work's going OK. I've seen footage of some mad snow drifts on the news. As much as eight foot in some places! I did have a little chuckle to myself though - since all the bad snowy weather, the UK media have remembered the Isle of Man exists! That place is NEVER on the news normally but they've had the worst of the snow.

At least the kids have had a great time. We now have an igloo in the garden.
P1 is supposed to have her first practice expedition for her Duke of Ed next weekend (not tomorrow). I'm not sure what things are like in the Mournes but I can see it having to be cancelled.

Yeah snow is great when you're a kid. It's a shame that it becomes such an inconvenience as we grow older.
What are your plans for the weekend MrsP?

Yeah I'm fine thanks hon.
We see the Isle of Man on the local news once a year around the end of May. TT time!
An igloo is great MrsP! There was a snow gnome in a garden up the road but it went before I could take a photo!

Haven't really made any yet Cari. Things have been on hold with my Dad not being so well. I hope we can manage to get my folks up here again over the weekend at some stage but it is a bit of a military operation to do that just now.
The wee fella is in Italy on a rugby tour. The middle girls went back to outdoor athletics training again tonight at the newly opened Mary Peters Track. Seems strange to be doing that with snow on the ground!

Oh I bet MiddleP is loving Italy! At least it's warmer down there...
Hope your dad's improving MrsP, although I wouldn't recommend him going out and about in the snow.

I know. It has come at a bad time for him. I would have hoped to have had him out and about a bit by now but between the cold and the ice and snow it hasn't been possible.

Did they not?
Would you have recognised them without MrP there?
I didn't realise you were going to renew your acquaintance with MPT. Must have been great fun registering all those kids in the freezing cold!

Good move to get everyone using the track to pay membership. Will that continue when they get the yearly membership sorted or will the club fees cover that as before?

I read that but presumed it was some sort of technicality because they wanted the annual membership to run from May?
Has anyone else declared an interest in running it?

All I can tell you is there's one other party competing with ANI and the red tape has not been cut through to let anyone know whats going on.

Athletics Northern Ireland are running it for one month after which- officially- we don't know.

I once had a taxi driver who had a ten minute rant to me about Mary Peters and how much he disliked her.
Apparently she just seems "too nice". But then- thats taxi driver logic

Far too nice for this World. Just glad she is still making her beautiful presence felt.
She was and still is, so much more than a Norn-Iron Olympic Gold medal winning athlete.
This Lady was way ahead of her time.

She is lovely too.
And this is the new, revamped, refurbished, newlylaid MP Track which officially opened today!
Mind you, it's one of those Mondo ones like they had at the Olympics. Should be great for the sprinters but much harder to train on.

It was good craic
Good luck to all, and I'm off for a right slump.

Penfro - as far as I know no one's arranged to meet up yet. I'm going with a non-rugby pal of mine so I'll be in town early. Dreamer and Lucky are going as far as I know.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
I was watching an old "Rugby Gold" match from the 1970s last night. The big point I took from it was that Gareth Edwards wouldn't get into the current Welsh team.
That might sound mad but seriously the bloke could only pass off one side. Thats bread and butter for a scrumhalf; the ability to pass off both sides. He kept doing that dive pass to compensate.
