Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

Matt Flynn is at serious risk of losing out to another rookie called Wilson if Tyler keeps his performances up following rookie minicamp.

Presumably to spend more time getting arrested.

How good is Kyle Love? Would he be worth an interview for the podcast? Speak to his agent every so often so could happen easily

I think the Raiders must have been jealous of Cleveland's success these last few years as they've added Young, Maiava and Cribbs this offseason.

on a side note, just spoke to Rookie UFA CB for the 49ers Darryl Morris, lovely guy. All of the reports seem to suggest he is in pole position to take roster spot of Brock or Cox so hope he gets his shot. Love the small school guys, he told me that he felt different because the concept of having gaterade handed to him during practice was new to him! Runs a 4.2 too so that helps I suppose. His highlights are nice too, check the play at the 4.15 mark, some speed and range that is rare there. ST ability gives him great shot.

Schiano interview on Mike Glennon:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-Sunday-Blitz-5760.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Also interesting to note that GM, Mark Dominik, was on the NFL Draft Tracker podcast last week and said that Glennon will be tested out more than Freeman in pre-season games.
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-Sunday-Blitz-5760.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Schiano said he believes Glennon “can play quickly” if he is needed. “But our situation will be only if he’s needed,” he said. “Or if he wins the job. Look, I’m not against that. We have a starting quarterback. It’s not like we’re looking to find a starter. But competition is competition. Mike Glennon is a fierce competitor. I knew that when he was coming out of high school. Now being able to work with him a little, you can see it on the practice field.”

Schiano not being a big Josh Freeman fan is noted, so Glennons going to need to be ready to start by next season really unless Freeman finally becomes the man.

Freeman is a Free Agent after this season. Do they want to spend money on a guy they know isn't going to take them to the next level? It's a good move by the Bucs to try and light a fire under him.

Rookie QB in getting the majority of preseason reps. Wow that is not news at all!
If Glennon starts it means the Bucs are out of playoff contention, and are tanking their season for a higher pick and getting rid of Freeman in the offseason.
He gets a lot of stick an deserves some but he is better in places then a lot of Bucs fans give him credit for (the perception among gneral fans varies a lot)

Strange move for him - if he really wanted a contender he did come to the wrong side of the bay. There must be something deeper in it.
Still, our secondary looks a hell of a lot better than last year, don't you think?

Tbh, I think the market was just very soft for him, hence why it was a surprise a surefire HOF player had to actively court suitors. I just don't think anyone came calling with an offer that he liked and so the Raiders were the only option. The Raiders secondary absolutely looks better but I don't like move foe either side. Raiders probably overpaid and added an old timer to a young group of guys, prefer they look to the future. And then Woodson wanted to go to a contender but went to a team where that isn't the case and he won't be protected by great corners like with the Packers or Raiders of old

To emphasize the loss of Crabtree, he had 94 targets in Kaepernick's 10 starts.
Randy Moss and Vernon Davis were tied for 2nd with 39 each.

Kaepernick and Crabtree had real chemistry, it'll be interesting to see how he copes without him. Maybe Boldin will come in and be the safety blanket like he was for Flacco.

I'm gutted he has gotten injured but not too concerned. With Smith we'd have been limited, but like a lot of the top NFL QB's, I'm confident Kap can bring out the best in lesser known guys.

in all seriousness though, any half decent WR's still on market? I think Patton/AJ/Williams competing for Crabs spot opposite Boldin whilst Manningham recovers too is fine. But maybe there is a fit out there
