Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

That's a bad one for Philly.
Not been a great few days for the Redskins either - Carriker out 4 to 5 months, Keenan Robinson likely done for the season, Jarvis Jenkins suspended for first 4 games.

Currently doing an offline draft with some other Giants fans on NFLUK. After 5 rounds I have 4 players with the same bye week.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Ed Dickson better step. Smith is a very underrated WR, can fill the void of Boldin as an all round guy with more speed. They lack option besides that. Jacoby Jones must work on being anything besides a guy who can go long and their other options have seen little gametime. Streeter and Doss are supposed to be the next guys in though. Pitta lined at WR frequently so that could help ease a transition.

Dicksons a better blocker than receiver, Smith has really rounded out to more than a deep threat yet.

Would agree with that GSC as said above. The run will become a lot morei mportant to them lucky for them they have two fine running backs.

There must be better receiving TE options in FA than Shiancoe though, surely?

If there were Belichick would've signed them.

Dallas Clark is probably the only big name available anyway. He only had an okay year won't do much blocking and he looked a bit sluggish for a lot of last season, he might find himself on a team later on but not yet anyway.

There's a guy in my NFLUK Giants league who drafted Harvin in round 3!
The same round I took Cruz, and Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Julio Jones and Demaryius Thomas went.

Bit harsh to blame Harvin for his injury!
Should we send someone round to make sure Cherries hasn't thrown too big a tantrum?

On the plus side he's likely to be returning around November/December. So that's just in time to get injured before the play-offs.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
On the face of it the Seahawks paid 1st, 3rd and 7th round picks for an injury prone WR without a 1000 yard season. Then gave him a 67m contract.
Then he got injured.

He's right you know. I thought he was joking.... went and checked myself and sure enough, he's flippin' well right.
Weird stuff. Might make a few of us pay attention for this first year of it just to see how big a car crash it is!
Apparently there will be two users of NFL.com's fantasy footie game involved in picking the teams as well....

Just heard a good question on NFL Network. Would the Eagles drop Cooper if Maclin was fit? I'd say yes.

Bears have signed Leonard Pope according to ESPN
not sure if he is any good anyone? though he must be better than the TE we have right now?

The fact hes unemployed in August with the Pats and Ravens both needing help at TE says it all.

Real question is, who has more wins next season, Eagles, Jets or Browns. I think Browns for some reason

Jets.
Revived run game with Ivory, and a dominant defense. Probably wont break .500 though.

Martellus Bennett is a stud.
Colan (niner) wrote:Real question is, who has more wins next season, Eagles, Jets or Browns. I think Browns for some reason
I love the Browns this year. Their roster is underrated with everything in place but the QB (if Weeden doesn't progress). Norv Turner and Ray Horton were excellent appointments and I think Horton in particular will get that defense going something fierce. D'Qwell Jackson is the perfect MLB for Horton's defense. Turner has a history of getting the best out of RB's, Gordon can be the deep threat in the offense and that gives space for Jordan Cameron underneath. Chudzinski will make the most of his talent, like he did with Greg Olsen.
Problem is, I really fancy the Bengals this year. Like, number 1 seed really fancy them. Ravens and Steelers are well run organisations so you have to think they can get to 8-8 even without having that strong a roster.
I think the Jets are going to surprise a few people this year. 8-8. Top 5 defense. Rex Ryan hero.

Not buying into Bennett. More (self) hype than production, and the Giants seem to swap TEs annually and get production.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
For me, Martellus Bennett is a player who has always flattered to deceive. Makes some nice plays but nowhere near often enough. His career stats should be way better than they are for someone who has only ever played on teams that throw the ball a lot.

The Cowboys don't know how to handle TE's that aren't named Jason Witten. He was never going to catch 50 balls in Dallas. He moved to a better situation in NY and did very well as a true two-way TE. I think he'll do very well in Chicago.

Decent game as it goes. Miami probably need to look at their O-line. Selvie for the Cowboys literally ran over their no.2 LT at one stage.
Cowboys ran the ball really well too. Used multiple tight end sets but tore off some good yards.

Vince Young signs a one year deal with the Packers.
Excellent move for Young, but a little odd from the Packers. I can only assume that Harrell and Coleman are not quite backup material yet. Still, Young has actually got a very good win ratio, isn't too poor a choice.
