Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

Glad we kept King, I think he has more upside and he's probably cheaper too.
Poor old Tyler lost out to a UDFA. From seeing preseason McGloin looked alright, Gazzy. But I agree a 4th round pick shouldn't have been wasted like that.
The worst cut I saw was David Bass. He was a 6th rounder and he actually looked like he could get to the QB. Ergo, we cut the guy.

I'll be running my score based comp... If GSC is doing his league again I'd be interested after taking over very late last year.Colan (niner) wrote:will we be doing a prediction league again this year? I'm ready to regain my title
I'm going to send the NFL preview questions out tonight (a little late but I'm struggling for free time at the moment). I've got Olly, Colan, nyj, CFCNick, crazy_dave down. Just a couple/ few lines on each q will be enough. If you can get a pm back before Wednesday night, I should get something up for Thursday.

Still think Raiders should have gone with Matt Barkley and built around him over next few years.

Wilson ends up back on the Raiders practice squad so we'll see if he is able to develop this year and earn a spot for next.
Looking like Terrelle Pryor gets the start in Oakland. I hope he is actually given a chance and not pulled the second he has a bad game. Because he will have bad games.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
I think personally I'd rather Flynn had started but it looks like the Raiders Facebook following are getting theirwish
As Sodhat says if they start him they need to stick by him because he is going to suck the first few games (I reckon)
Quick FF question. I can start 3 of
Calvin Johnson v Min
Victory cruz @ Dal
Tavon Austin v Ari
Andre Johnson @SD
Already decided Megatron, just need two of the other three. Who do you reckon?

Austin is a complete mystery and the Cardinals have a decent defense (well, they did under Ray Horton). You have three studs there so don't use Austin until he becomes something.

Not had enough time to do a single FF league this year
Definitely Johnson against the Chargers, then I think I would go with the WR you know with Cruz and not Austin.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
I've decided to do something different with betting this year. I'm going to have two 3-5 team accumulators. One with favourites and one with underdogs. £5 on TEN, CIN and GB @22/1. £5 on DEN, IND, KC and WAS @5/1.
Also got £10 on a Broncos win and Thomas TD @ 5/4.
Last year I mainly placed large singles on the spread. Worked out about even for the year.

I'll definitely be having a little dabble each week, not that last proved to be very successful.Colan (niner) wrote:anyone having a little betting activity on any of the games this week? I've backed 49ers, Falcons, Bucs, Seahawks, Rams, Pats, Colts and Chiefs to win
I used to tend to do over/under points but got fed up of teams taking knees in the last minutes when I needed a point or two for the bet to come in!

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Considering it, tempted to go for Texans, Pats, Seahawks, Vikes, Colts may add in some others though as that would only return about a tenner per quid. With them all at 10/11 the over/under bets are looking attractive too...Colan (niner) wrote:anyone having a little betting activity on any of the games this week? It was only 963 days ago the Jets won as 9.5 point underdogs in Foxboro to go to their 2nd straight AFC Championship Game.
That was a painful experience

That must be the exact same length of time since someone used the words "franchise" "quarterback" and "Mark Sanchez" in the same sentence.

What are you talking about, people do that all the time; "Mark Sanchez is in no way a franchise quarterback.", "Whoever thought Mark Sanchez was a franchise quarterback must have been high.", "Thank heavens our franchise has a better quarterback than Mark Sanchez!", etc.sodhat wrote:That must be the exact same length of time since someone used the words "franchise" "quarterback" and "Mark Sanchez" in the same sentence.

It's been over 5,000 days since the Buccaneers last played a game without Ronde Barber. It's gonna be weird watching a game without him in it.

How does Ray Rice only have 12 rushes and Flacco 64 throws, 30 of which are before half time, in a game that didn't get out of hand till late 3rd quarter/early 4th

I thought Flacco returned to being the Joe Flacco we all know, some of the throws back across his body that he got away with last night were awful, let alone the interceptions.
Don't think the Broncos D looked that sharp but were missing Miller and Bailey of course.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
The Broncos were playing well against the run and, in the first half, the Denver D was getting no pressure on Flacco so he had time to sit in the pocket and wait for his receivers to open up. They didn't do him any favours by dropping an obscene amount of catchable targets though. Dallas Clark had an absolute 'mare. He dropped a perfectly thrown ball on the 2 yard line seconds before half time that meant they had to kick a FG and only led by 3 points. After that play, it all went downhill for the Ravens and they made silly errors like that unchallenged play that let to TD, blocked punt and the aforementioned drops. The Denver D really ramped it up in the second half, got more pressure through blitzing and the secondary played really well to hold things together while getting their hands on a lot of passes.Olly wrote:How does Ray Rice only have 12 rushes and Flacco 64 throws, 30 of which are before half time, in a game that didn't get out of hand till late 3rd quarter/early 4th
However, it was all about the Broncos offense. After a slow start, they found their rhythm and every receiver had big plays - except Decker who had a poor game. When the Ravens gave Manning Welker, he ripped them up with Welker. When they gave him Julius Thomas, he ripped them up with Julius Thomas. When they gave him no one, he ripped them up with Demaryius Thomas. Great performance from Manning and the Broncos - that's why they're favourites in the AFC.

Saw most of the first half and it looked pretty even. Surprised at the final score from the first half but was expecting the Broncos to win comfortably. They should be number 1 seeds in the AFC this year.
Peyton Manning and Wes Welker linked up well together. The Patriots must miss him. Jury is still out on the Ravens this year. They will be challenging for a wildcard place at best.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
The Ravens D was knackered by the 3rd qtr. Altitude got to them like it does a lot of teams playing in Denver, and first game of the season. Ravens will bounce back, but they are going to have a tough season to get back close to their form last year. Bronco's looked good from the 2nd quarter through. D started stepping up and O just clicked, though again, with the Ravens D knackered they took advantage rather than being more talented. Manning tricked them a few times and they got away with the Welker no catch call. Then again Decker had a shocker and that doesn't happen often, so they could be a tough team to face offensively and especially at Mile High.
