Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Coming soon...
1) My NFL Competition will be back when the season starts.
2) A quimsical article if I can actually get around to writing it.
3) An info thread I will hopefully get going tonight.
and
4) CONTRIBUTORS WANTED. Ok I am borrowing/ stealing an idea from another forum and another sport....
Basically I am looking to put together a preview/ interview style article whereby I ask 4/ 5 people various questions on the forthcoming season, getting your responses via pm, then paste it all together.
If interested state here. Need four or five people. I will pm questions over weekend and hopefully get something together next week. It may make a good V2 Journal feature/ article?

Don't know if anyone else saw it but Mike Carlson tweeted about NFL UK tv coverage earlier. There'll be an announcement soon and he's told we will like it.
I'm hoping C4 have MNF and some sort of highlights show. I have Gamepass and Sky but would love an extra helping of Carslon to go with it all.

I would do your Q&A Mikey, but I might struggle with availability next week as I have a lot going on midweek.
Otherwise fantastic news on you bringing your competition back. I always enjoy it!

Just so long as they have SNF to compliment my Gamepass then i'm fine. Not fussed about much as long as I can hear Carlson muttering at 3am... can't be beaten!CFCNick wrote:Don't know if anyone else saw it but Mike Carlson tweeted about NFL UK tv coverage earlier. Ok, I think there is enough volunteers. I shall get something together tonight/ tomorrow night whilst watching the preseason games.
SNF and MNF on Channel 4 would be good. Both on free tv would do. Both on BT Sport would be nightmarish.
Looking ahead to this weeks preseason games. Keen to see how Vick, Foles, Barkley go tonight and whether the Eagles D performs any better. Alex Smith facing his old team has to be the highlight of the second week of preseason games.

Nick Foles rushing in a TD. Is there a better dual threat QB in the NFL? Brandon Weeden continues to impress in the preseason. The Falcons and Ravens still going big in the air.

And the Bears beat the Chargers in preseason. I mean, really? We're celebrating pretty small things now aren't we, Chicago?

In Denver, anything less than a third ring will be seen as failure. We can only celebrate come February 3rd.

The Broncos may have a chance if the finish as sixth seeds. Anything above that and they risk Peyton getting beat again in the freezing Colorado weather.Statto00 wrote:In Denver, anything less than a third ring will be seen as failure. We can only celebrate come February 3rd.

I see Mingo got injured though he is only likely to miss one week. Looking forward to seeing how Alex Smith goes tonight against the 49ers as well as a bit more Tebow time.

Brady has goes perfect on 1st drive ending up with a 26 yard TD to Amendola, and a 2pt conversion to Sudfeld (Studfeld). Knees fine

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Difficult to tell which Bucs team will show up this year. O-line was makeshift without Nicks and Joseph, Leonard was out, Martin left the game. Tough first couple of series for Freeman, he had no time in the pocket at all, Ogletree dropped a perfect pass.
Worrying to see Chandler Jones own Donald Penn.
Glennon played ok actually, looked much better than Mallett and Tebow (obviously, Tebow is just awful...). Hillis and Mike James ran very well. James in particular looks quite exciting.

EJ Manuel is out for the rest of preseason as he needs minor surgery. He has been looking much better than Kevin Kolb so far this year and if fit should be the Bills QB starter in week 1.
Jeff Tuel has shown some potential in the two Bills preseason games and looking forward to seeing how he goes with more game time in the next two preseason games.

Miller is going to be a huge loss, but I thought the suspension policy was 4 games then 8 games, where has 6 come from?
Baldwin/Jenkins is a severe meh for me, the only consolation is that everyone thought Baldwin was a first rounder, no one in their right mind had Jenkins going in the first, so perhaps Baldwin is a better talent.

It is impressive tbf. 0 catches and run out of town after 1 season for a first round pick.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Jenkins was always on his way out. Not sure how to feel about Baldwin, liked him coming out in the draft but he hasn't done much since. Jenkins is a bust but not too bothered as he was luxury pick at time like most of that years class, won't have any long term impact thankfully

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Yeah no real long term effect, but we could have had a quality player who ended up going in the 2nd round, such as Kendall Reyes, Derek Wolfe, Janoris Jenkins .. or just traded the pick for other picks.
No real harm done, but an impact player could definitely have been had there

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
I agree but we've been so good at drafting over last few years that you will always be unlucky with one. Besides you could look at any draft like that and say we missed out on a great prospect, no guarantee they would be a success here. 49ers were never going any other position than WR and if Stephen Hill or Reuben Randle are the best talents we missed out on, we've done okay. And as for picks, I'm happy we don't have more, too many to keep track of as it is!BamBam wrote:Yeah no real long term effect, but we could have had a quality player who ended up going in the 2nd round, such as Kendall Reyes, Derek Wolfe, Janoris Jenkins .. or just traded the pick for other picks.

You can't judge receivers (or any player for that matter) after one year. They traditionally take a little bit longer to get into the swing of things. However, not making a single catch is pretty absurd.

1 target, 1 drop
You can carry WRs who show promise, Jenkins just sucked. Only reason he'd be on the team was draft status

I imagine being an Eagles fan has to be a bigger let down than being a Mets fan.
