Who's to say that Suarez won't wanna leave on his own accord anyway? Who knows how his infantile brain works?
The backlash over this may well tip him over the edge.

This is violence Crimey. Assault. Totally different to a dive, or a player claiming a throw-in when it isn't. It shows an unhinged individual. It was entirely unprovoked. It has dragged the once-proud name of Liverpool Football Club through the mud, again.

Should Cantona have been sold by United after he kicked a Crystal Palace fan in the face?

Different circumstances. Cantona was being racially abused, Suarez' bite was completely unprovoked.

It's still assault.

I would say yes in answer to your question. Professionals can't act in such a manner.

Crimey I believe this is your field: Had Suarez drawn blood and Ivanovic made a criminal complaint would this fit into the "wounding with intent" bracket?

Anyway lads the game has moved on since the cantona kick
We are so much harsher on these things these days. Surez is going to get one hell of a punishment..
The interesting thing will be if liverpool accept this punishment or do everything they can to appeal
Surely they cant do the later..!! not this time

They won't appeal..........Season is over and it'll make them look as If they are defending the indefensible..

Don't make me feel guilty for not revising!
But yeah, it could possibly be considered to be a Section 20 of the Offences Against a Person Act, which is essentially the unlawful wounding or the unlawful infliction of grievous bodily harm. But it's unlikely, unless there was strong evidence that he actually intended to draw blood or was reckless in doing so, he'd have to have bitten him pretty hard.
It could still constitute assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but again I doubt that because a bite isn't going to really affect Ivanovic for very long. It would have to interfere in his health or comfort, which it would have done for a minute or so, but enough to constitute Suarez being charged under that.
He could definitely be charged with assault should Ivanovic press charges, but I seriously doubt he will.
I would be extremely surprised to see any criminal charges being made, as it'd be the lowest form of assault anyway.

The ban (if they keep him) will be likely large enough to stretch over to next season as well. Really don't think they'll appeal...but this is Liverpool.

Probably not the most violent thing to happen in English football this week though. Have a look at this:

There's no way they'll appeal. It would be the mother of all PR disasters. They've surely learnt their lesson.

More to the point of Liverpool needing him, how long until the FA gets sick of seeing Suarez continually in front of them? And hands out a ban of half a season or worse?

As I have said on the liverpool thread if he is guilty of this (not seen the incident so only going off what I have read) then I don't want him to play for my club again. Some things are just not acceptable.

Sky sports have just showed footage of Defoe biting Mascherano in 2006. He didn't even get a one game ban?

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
Liverpool Football Club has the following response to the incident that occurred during today's game at Anfield:
Luis Suarez said: "I am deeply sorry for my inexcusable behaviour earlier today during our match against Chelsea.
"I have issued an apology and have tried to contact Branislav Ivanović to speak to him personally. I apologise also to my manager, playing colleagues and everyone at Liverpool Football Club for letting them down."
The club's managing director Ian Ayre commented: "Luis has made an unreserved apology for his actions today.
"His behaviour is not befitting of any player wearing a Liverpool shirt and Luis is aware that he has let himself and everyone associated with the club down. We will deal with the matter internally and await any action from the FA."
Brendan Rodgers added: "Having reviewed the video footage and spoken to Luis, his behaviour is unacceptable and I have made him aware of this."
Credit where its due, as opposed to last time when they bunkered up and cried victim. Doubt it'll matter much to the FA though.

Agree totally with Chris.
Give them credit when they dish out a huge ban or get shut of him.

Mmm I think Sidwell should have been sent off but on the other hand he's unlucky because these challenges go unpunished all the time. Nasri's today was just as bad. Giroud was even unluckier, but at least the ref was consistent.
