The longer this drags out the more I think it will end in tears.
I don't think anyone comes out of this with much credit
And he had better be worth the wait/grief!!!

C'est la vie.

Hopefully the short nature of Johnson's tenure will permit him to take some "risks" with selection (i.e. not sticking with the same teamsheet for the next 12 months).

Some nice options in the backs for this coming tour, and hopefully Gray, Maitland and Hogg will return from Australia better players.

I saw the players on Friday at Edinburgh airport, setting off on tour. Grant Gilchrist is a big chap. Needs to step up a level this summer and next season.

via Google translate:
The Board of Directors of ASM Clermont Auvergne met on Monday, June 3, 2013 to analyze the impact of the head coach's statements to the press. President Rene Fontes, his successor, Eric Cromières and Board of Directors have unanimously approved the proposal of Jean-Marc Lhermet, athletic director and vice president, to maintain Vern Cotter in office for the sports season 2013-14. In this context, the ambitions of the club to do better than the previous season remain unchanged.

Cotter:
My intention has always been to move the club, never to harm anyone in the ASM Clermont Auvergne. I regret having taken within the scope of the frustration an awkward position vis-à-vis my players or club policy. There were clumsiness on my part and a lot of misunderstanding later in a case that has been much publicized that it would have been. I said with all stakeholders, I now have only one desire: to draw a line under last week and turn to the next season where we will have great ambitions. I'm going for 15 days in New Zealand to get new ideas, new lines of work to make enjoy the club upon my return. I am pleased that the club trust me for next season and I am very determined to finish my adventure Auvergne beauty.

Sounds like they offered him more money to stay. Can't help but feel the SRU's handling of the announcement helped this situation. Make an announcement when you have the motherfudging candidate signed. Not saying you will make your announcement in a few months and give your rivals to make counter offers.

They let Scotland off the hook by keeping him on. Plus they probably got their pound of flesh out of him too with his climb down on his pronouncements.
Had he resigned, his already signed up next employer would have had to fork out compensation. So offering him more money to stay seems counter-intuitive as one more year isn't going to rewrite their record books too substantially. They'll already now have their eyes open for his replacement and who knows, his replacement might have an 'observational consultant' role in his camp soon enough too.

I lost my rag last week at having got so close to doing the double but was denied due to the selection of large womens' shirts under my charge having a collective hissy and jessying out of doing their jobs properly. I felt like a plonker but I'm feeling better now that I know the chairman doesn't want to sack me. I'm going home on holiday now as far away from this as humanly possible where I won't need to field any more irritating questions about my job, Scotland or why a phenomenally expensive bunch of sirloin slabs cannot seem to score in a brothel.

Have to bookmark this post as a contender for post of the year at the End of season awards! I could have trawled through the half dozen or so new pages to get some answers as to what has been going on in the SRU but GC and his "translation" summed it up perfectly. Laugh OK
