Those two points are incredibly contradictory because if they had the money to buy these players with their own money then it is 100% their fault for borrowing yet more despite already having horrendous debt levels. The most comparable team to Madrid is United who despite having lower turnover are a fair bit more profitable, the most profitable club in world football cannot spend £86mil on one player yet Madrid with higher debt levels can. There really is not defending them here, their country is in dire straits yet they do nothing to help but just make it worse year on year.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
the stupid thing about it though graf is that madrid could have probably paid a lot less and done it shrewdly but because they have an everlasting pool of european bail out cash! they don't even bother to try.
If Ozil was on the market earlier he could have gone for 50 plus.. No other team would have paid more than 60 for bale, but tottenham would have realistically sold him to madrid for 5 mill less than what a PL club would have bid anyway!!
They just go ott because they can rather than being shrewd because they don't have to be!

True - But remember - all Perez has is extravagant spending, he lacks actual football so he generally just seduces members with sweeping acquisitions. Ive long given up on him showing footballing acumen... Now I just watch him overspend and hope for the best. After all, he once got us three Champions Leagues in five years in the first Galactico era, unfortunately, like the first galactico era, he stopped buying overpriced great players, and now just buys overpriced brands.

To go on to your side of the fence for a minute
There is off course the fact that they wanted to pay high on purpose.. The 85 mill buy that has eclipsed ronaldo is great Media around the globe!! Everyone is going to want to watch him in the far east to the states!!
The concern is is that if he doesn't perform they will all just turn off and cancel there shirt orders! its a short term Buzz! yet if he does do well it may push ronaldo out the door, enabling another team with the next big signing!
However the truth is is that it isn't good for football. Its just pushing all players values up at the same time and hitting us fans harder and making it harder for likes of the mighty Palace to get anywhere in this game!

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Ive consigned myself to Ronnie leaving tbh, hopefully Bale can at least put out semi-respectable (for an 86M player) stats.
Look, it is pushing player prices up, and creating added pressure to make it into European competitions, and play rodiculous tours in horrid conditions, fatiguing players etc.
The only thing about the Bale deal, is that Real apparently get 10% off if they pay in a timely manner. So I just wonder if they take the fanfare of having broken the record again, and then try soothe Ronaldo by telling him they only paid £77.4m for Bale. Given the Ozil deal, thats only a £35M net, which looks a little better.

Wow that's horrible news for the Hammers, especially when they're lacking a real backup option at the minute (has Carlton Cole signed yet?)

Scraping the barrel a bit there, not really Carroll-esque players. Gonna need the widemen to start scoring a few

Shame for big Andy, I quite like him, he's a victim of the over inflated price tag associated with being an English Premier League player, just saw his stats on Sky there, might be wrong but thought he had 41 goals from 99 starts, not the wprat for his type of CF, I was interested to see how the Hammers would do this year so any loss will be a big kick in the nuts

Sadly, I may have to admit defeat in my argument that he isnt injury prone.
We appear to be close to signing Mladen Petric on a free. Would be happy with that, was surprised Fulham let him go.
All a bit worrying though, quite the focal point of the side. Will heavily affect our season and makes me look down not up.

Sounds like LFC may have dodged a bullet re Carroll. Lost a great deal of money on him but if he's badly injured it now seems like a half decent bit of business. Wonder if anyone at Anfield knew this before he was sold or if it's just freakish bad luck.
As above, got no gripes with Carroll and thought he put in a good shift under Kenny and it's not his fault his style of play wasn't fancied by Rodgers.
Good luck to him though.

I'd been keeping tabs on the BT and Virgin deal as I wanted to know whether or not we'd still have the US sports coverage, mainly college football & baseball. BT was on air for a week until the deal was announced on the Virgin TV forums and within days it was plastered all over the Virgin website.

Indeed. Me and a couple of my mates always fancied him as quite the player, underused at Fulham a bit, so I'm quite happy. Free transfer and filling a gap, not to be sniffed at. I mean, we're gonna be fighting lower down now rather than upper parts of midtable, but thats the sad truth of major injuries.GSC wrote:Not really going to get the cream of the crop on a free in september tbf

The last time we lost at White Hart Lane, Nathan Redmond was only 13 months old.
Lets hope the unbeaten streak continues, 3,000 canaries including me shall be there on Saturday!

Pity about the penalty from Palace's point of view, as they appeared to be visibly growing in confidence for me as the half wore on. Game pretty much over now. I do think it was a penalty, and the red card was spot on. Equally, I thought Evra was unlucky not to get a pen earlier on.

No disrespect to Palace but having to rely on two set piece goals against a newly prmoted team down to 10 men??
Not brilliant at all. Ashley Young shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our first team, he's no where near good enough said it when we played Liverpool and that hasn't changed since. There's nothing to get excited about when he collects the ball, absolute waste of space
