It was a disgraceful challenge. Nothing but down right thuggery. If you go flying into a challenge high and like a missile then if you seriously injure a player you should face an extensive punishment. So if we only judge a team after they have played the other TOP teams how do we judge United? 2 losses and 1 draw in 3 games against top teams including a 4-1 hammering.TopHat24/7 wrote:Exactly.John wrote:You judge Arsenal when they go to Old Trafford, Etihad, Stamford Bridge etc. That's the true indicator of how Arsenal have progressed. Does the EPL consist of ONLY top6 sides? No, it doesn't.
Does the EPL consist of ONLY bottom6 sides? No, it doesn't.
Therefore you judge sides once they've played a balanced mix of sides.
You can win the EPL with 6 losses, therefore we can effectively lose to City again, lose to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, go 1-1 with both Arsenal and Spurs and still win the league.
This won't happen, but it highlights the idiocy of writing one team off for losing to two top teams whilst proclaiming another one champions in waiting for beating some distinctly average ones (whilst also conveniently excusing/ignoring that team's and other top teams' losses against inferior opposition).

I agree with this. Some people on here are sounding like journalists when they talk about England. One win against anyone and we're good enough to win the World Cup. One defeat and we're finished and the manager needs to go.TopHat24/7 wrote:Champagne_Socialist wrote:So if we only judge a team after they have played the other TOP teams how do we judge United? 2 losses and 1 draw in 3 games against top teams including a 4-1 hammering.TopHat24/7 wrote:Exactly.John wrote:You judge Arsenal when they go to Old Trafford, Etihad, Stamford Bridge etc. That's the true indicator of how Arsenal have progressed. Januzaj was sitting next to RVP during the City game & thinking, 'christ we're ****'. Wouldn't surprise me if he left, just like Pogba. United is not the be-all-and-end-all nowadays in English football, especially without Ferguson. If they don't offer the kids the opportunity & would rather continue playing Giggs, Valencia & all the other garbage at the club, then it's no surprise they are thinking of leaving.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
my thoughts are, are that spurs will pick up alot of wins this season against the 'lesser' sides. however i think experience will win over and our head-tohead difference will be the deciding factor come may.
fantastic win on sunday. i wish i could stick around on the board at the end to celebrate and really rub it in steffans face, but unfortunately had to be elsewhere. deserved win although marshall was fantastic for cardiff. the defence did its job most of the time, alot of our chances came from outside the box but they were all efforts marshall had to deal with, and deal with well!
lloris as i said during the game, should of been off probably, but it was too close a call for the officials. he is also the reason we have 7 clean sheets in 8. if you ignore the incident, youll see its world class keeping. he is so unbelievably quick off his line and if you were one on one with a keeper, the last man you want to see s lloris. hes even better than reina in that sweeper role. i absolutely hate liverpool with a passion, but admit that reina was absolutely world class. however, lloris, in time will be better than even him.
i cant see us losing many. i expect the likes on city, arsenal and chelsea to do the double over us. but i feel they may be our only defeats this season. but i can see the win column up into the high 20's at the end
absolutely dominant performance once again, we must average over 20 goal attempts a game. paulinho, dembele, sandro and capoue will absolutely boss our midfield when called upon.
shame arsenal are above us...

many Utd fans were unsure of Moyes' appointment, and this start will not have done him any good. That said, he was brought in for the long term. He will be rightly given couple of seasons I would have thought.

Problem is that Man U are so used to winning the EPL under Fergusen that anything less is a massive disappointment. Also there is no guarantee Man U will get top 4. Arsenal, Man city, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham will all be battling Man U for top 4.Stella wrote:many Utd fans were unsure of Moyes' appointment, and this start will not have done him any good. Their fans (not the southern ones) will cope I'm sure. By the way, I'm not writing off Utd for a top four spot, as they have RVP and Rooney. Utd could though become a cup team ala the 1980's under Moyes?Champagne_Socialist wrote:Problem is that Man U are so used to winning the EPL under Fergusen that anything less is a massive disappointment. Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
United losing Ferguson & then only buying Fellaini, who offers very little & then seeing all your rivals spending in the ranges of £50m-£100+m was always going to be a recipe for disaster for United. Everyone else has taken steps forward & while United have remained stagnant, you could even argue have taken steps back, therefore, I am not surprised by this start to the season. It is still early days & I expect a reaction from the squad, not through Moyes' interaction with them but from their own innate determination, desire & professionalism that the United team & teams of old possess. Too four should still be achievable for United, people are really jumping on the bandwagon & over-hyping a few teams after a couple of good results. I heard Liverpool were 'world beaters' only a week ago & claiming this could be their year, they then lost to Southampton. I expect the same with Arsenal. It's still very early days, it's unpredictable & competitive......that's all we can ask for.

Why are United in regression? They're in transition, not regression, and it's too soon to know whether or not it'll be a good one or a bad one.

Pogba wanted to play, which given his performances last season and the midfielders United have, denying him that makes United look a bit dumb tbh. Would've fit the mould perfectly and wouldnt have cost a penny

Denying a clearly very talented youngster chances to prove himself at a position of weakness? Who then went on to perform very well at a top European club on a free.

He wasn't given first team football because of his posturing over his contract.
Had he signed a deal he would have played simple - you can't reward poor behaviour. Morrison was the same.

I wouldn't normally write a team off after 5 games and I am not writing man U off, they have some great players but they have made some dreadful decisions since the summer regarding transfers and also the best manager in the world, ferguson is no longer there.talkingpickle wrote:Trust me id like to see Utd fail this season, but writing them off after 5 games is just plain stupid!
Will man u win the league? maybe. Will man u finish top 4? probably. But they will struggle this season away against the big teams and that is what I think will cost them.

Tevez and pique wouldn't sign new deals.
I really don't get the points people are trying to make.
Yes we've lost some good players, getting a world record fee for a player who wanted to leave after he won us the cl and more is hardly him coming back to bite you.

You had Gerard Pique, probably the best CB in the world or at least top 3 and not only that he makes so much money in sponsorship deals because he is young and attractive with a popstar wife.
Diego Forlan was just mismanaged at United. He was awesome in Spain and for Uruguay.
Yes you sold Ronaldo but let's be honest the 70 million profit you sold him for is nothing compared to the shirt sales extra money from sponsorship and revenue from competition wins he would have brought you over the last 5 years.

Well done, completely undermined yourself there.Champagne_Socialist wrote:ome back to haunt doesn't mean scoring against you or even playing against you.TopHat24/7 wrote:So, a player we never owned, a player who was best in the world who we made £70m profit on having won us everything there is to win and wanted to leave, a player who's never come back to haunt us and isn't that good anyway and someone who was rubbish but turned out great and, again, never came back to haunt us.Champagne_Socialist wrote:Tevez, Ronaldo, PIQUE, Forlan....TopHat24/7 wrote:And which players has he let go that've come back to haunt him??
You had Gerard Pique, probably the best CB in the world or at least top 3 and not only that he makes so much money in sponsorship deals because he is young and attractive with a popstar wife.
Diego Forlan was just mismanaged at United. He was awesome in Spain and for Uruguay.
