Uniteds squad has been on the decline for a few years now. Following SAF was always a big ask but he didn't leave Moyes much help

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Arsenal have played some great football but that's it & they lead by one point. They've won nothing as of yet, but your saying RVP should now be rushing back to the Emirates & jumping ship from United? Don't be silly. Your acting like they've won the title already, marathon not a sprint. How could I have invested a summer in it, when the season's only just started? I was only questioning Wenger's non-signings, which I've openly admitted along with others that we were wrong & Ozil coming in proved that. I'm not wrong about the current situation though in the league, nothing's been proven as of yet, Arsenal haven't faced any of the real tests that determine their actual placing among the elite this season. Your the one's getting hugely carried away.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I don't buy the idea that our squad is that weak, we still have the best front two in the league while last season our defence eventually sorted itself out. Our transfer policy over the summer has been discussed to death but we should have done better, if Fergie wanted somebody he more often than not got them, Moyes needed to be more proactive. The more I see of Fellaini the less I think he's a united player, Carrick is losing confidence because he no longer has a player alongside him he can rely one. Cleverley is not a great player by any stretch of the imagination but he doesn't give the ball away easily and can play a simple pass effectively, this is exactly what Carrick thrives on not a physical player.

United are weak in midfield, out wide and still reliant on declining players in Rio, Vidic and Evra.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
The thing is Cleverley isn't terrible, he's a dependable player that doesn't do anything special, he's not what we need but he's still our best option alongside Carrick. We are reliant on the old guard but we're a team going through transition but unlike every other team we're expected to perform each and every season. Under Fergie he'd have got every single ounce out of the squad possible but Moyes seems to be going ultra conservative rather than letting the attacking players express themselves.

Chelsea, City are both expected to challenge every season. Dunno where the idea that they can sit out a season unchallenged came from

Yeah Cleverley is pants. I could lace up a pair of boots and expect to do better.
If he'd have came up through the ranks of, lets say, Fulham he'd be at Fleetwood now.

Chelsea were forgotten about as title challengers for the past two seasons and both teams have only been challenging for the title recently, not really comparable to 20 years expectation and beyond.GSC wrote:Cleverley doesn't do anything

They were (forgotten about) a third of the way into the season, yes. Going into last season they were the European Champions and, rightfully, favourites for the league.
City were the champs going into last season.
Have I forgot anything?

So you think the expectation levels at Chelsea and City have been as high as they have been at United over the past 20 years?

Which you were wrong on.
No club in this country can compete with Utd expectation wise.

Under fergie with an 18 year old wonder kid breaking through we'd be too of the league, undefeated and have some if those targets as actual summer signings.

To be honest i think its been a blessing in disguise that RVP is not at arsenal. Everything good goes through that player and creativity lacks elsewhere. to be fair the exact same thing happened last season for United.
The team look mentally damaged with the loss of Fergie and the loss of RVP's form, yes he has played ok, but not great, not the player that could just turn up and create/score a goal by a piece of magic when United are in trouble..
The team looks stale..
Over the years they has never been a team i wanted to watch more than united(bar my team) and now they play some seriously stale football.
TBH they played a lot better yesterday, rooney was trying his heart out, but he needs a midfield behind him. If i was rooney i would push again to get out of there , its not conducive to great football anymore, unless RVP is on 100%

Not a word about Everton. If you look at their players they have a pretty decent squad. No, they are not going to win the league but they could damage other's hopes.

He has been in every game he's played. He's just really clumsy and doesn't really add anything at the minute. Its a shame Darren Fletcher has suffered like he has because we would have saved that £28 million and put it towards a world class player because no doubt a fully fit and healthy fletcher would keep Fellaini out of this midfieldEnt wrote:Cos he is useless, was an absolute passenger yesterday.mystiroakey wrote:Top 7 no doubts lourus and fellaini leaving will not damage them.
I'm afraid we're going to end up in a position were we need to bolster an average squad with world class players, to get that Champions League qualification is a must. On current form I don't see us finishing top 4

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
The desire for them to be relegated is a part of my fanboy-ness, 100%, but I stand by the point. They are going to continue to suffer because they are soft. Paolo clearly saw it. Its well documented how hard he was on Swindon in training, but he made them fitter than any side in the football league. Premier League footballers are too egotistical. Funny thing is, at somewhere like us or Stoke, I think people would have bought into it. But Sunderland are floundering and want someone to blame.FreekShow wrote:Slight slice of a West Ham fanboy tang about that post Chris.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Happy to see Sunderland suffering. Di Canio was being strict with them for a reason, they had underachieved for a long time and they were underachieving still. They rely entirely on Fletcher and are really suffering without him too. I hope they go down.
I loved Di Canio as a player but that gig ended up the way every man and his dog expected it too.
If he works in this country again I'd be stunned. Total crackpot.

Villa tottenham.. yeah could be a cracker.
I can also see close high scoring game tbh.
Tottenham(before west ham) could have been arguably the best defensive outfit in the prem. but they didn't score v westham and basically got a bit humiliated.
I expect them to come out of the blocks and try and score and leave holes open for villa..
3/2 either way for me!

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Gutted by the utd result yet always fancied southampton to get an equalizer. Not happy with the subs Moyes went with, didn't make sense. Why take Rooney off for Smalling with just 5 mins remaining? Also taking Fellaini off for Welbeck with Giggs in the middle was poor. They were all over us so putting giggs there wouldn't have made a difference. However, we were unlucky in that if one of those efforts that hit the cross bar had gone in then we'd be sitting here talking about an alright 2-0 win.
Just feel Moyes needs to let his players free from the negative shackles placed on them and let them express themselves

Fantastic cross by Andros and tbf it deserved a goal. But from a Villa perspective that is a very soft goal to concede. Soldado should be getting full contact on that though and putting it away.
Hopefully the game can start now. Been poor and boring so far.

Suarez at his cheating worst yesterday, flopping round, feigning injury, asking for cards etc... He really is a scum bag. Really thought we made Liverpool look average yesterday. Played some nice stuff. Ben Arfa needs to shift some weight though, he's a fatty.

Tottenham are rather fortunate to be in front, to say the least, but it's a very poor game in truth.

Poor first half. Spurs are there for the taking second half.
Westwood cant take a decent corner.
I know we've done well since Tekkers has been ou, but jesus Kozak ain't a suitable replacement.
Need the big man on. But at the same time don't want to risk him to early.
Delph has been good this season. Having a decent game so far.
KEA is just poor. Need a good attacking midfielder in jan.
Lets see what we can do second half.
C'mon Villa.

Not for me, not in the slightest. Joey would be a real curveball pick if he could find fitness and form, but theres no one of an age (by which I mean around 30) that isnt in the squad that should be introduced. I'd possibly get rid of Lampard if Morrison and Barkley have good seasons. Gerrard and Carrick offer experience.NickisBHAFC wrote:Leon Osman and Kevin Nolan could also be worth a look at.
