WHAT A GOAL!
Cracking goal by Tottenham. Barca would of been proud of that. Cracking goal. Well taken by Soldado, but it was all about the build up play.

That might of been the goal Soldado needed to get his confidence up, hopefully he can kick on now.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Anyone willing to drop Lampard from the England squad needs a slap. He's done more for England than Carrick and everyone's darling Stevie G. The problem with bringing through the young players is that they haven't had experience yet. They'll get smashed in the World Cup. Starting from the next qualifiers we can start bleeding out the older players but we have to stick with what has worked to get us there and not bring players in too early. Plus, Roy has always had nearly 10 30+ year olds in his squads.

The fat one has done stuff for England. So has Gary Lineker. Are we picking the team on most caps these days? Oh, did he score the other night? That's all. How many times does he give the ball away and go for those stupid soft curlers from the edge of the box that are oh so predictable now.
Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
No he hasn't. Lampard has played less and scored more for England than Gerrard. All whilst being booed by his own fans whilst those same fans come in their pants at the sight of Stevie.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:The fat one has done stuff for England. So has Gary Lineker. If we're going just by goals scored in games, Peter Crouch can make a pretty good case to be one of England's greatest strikers.
Take off the blue tinted glasses my friend, for England at least Gerrard is above Lampard.
Club level it's a whole different kettle of fish

Nonsense. Poopie load of nonsense. Gerrard has outplayed him in major tournaments. In fact, I think hes outscored him in tournaments too.
I wouldnt say right now "drop Lampard" but if Barkley and Morrison can carry on their early form then I think its more beneficial for England to take two youngsters on the bench, especially ones who will add pace late on, rather than a man who will likely retire after the tournament.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Lampard would still be better. Gerrard wouldn't have gotten into the Chelsea team at the time he was breaking into the Liverpool side. Gerrard's style is all Hollywood, in your face and he's a diver. Lampard just plods along doing his business.
It's pointless taking too many players from the Barkley, Morrison, Redmond, Wilshere, Townsend group. They are all too inexperienced and it'll probably ruin their careers if they get played too early.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
If England are going to considerably change the way their central midfield play, in a way which accommodates Lampard's style to let him get up the pitch further and more often, then fine. But Wilshere, Carrick and Gerrard are all better than Lampard in the role that England's central midfielders play.

Lampard has played in that role for Chelsea for about 3/4 years now.
Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Completely biased post. I can't remember the last time Lampard played well in a major tournament for England. 2006 and 2010 he was shocking.CFCNick wrote:Lampard would still be better. Thats fine, but hes definitely allowed forward more, and hes not as good in that deeper role as Carrick, Gerrard and Wilshere. With the long term things a little in mind and the fact Lampard could be 4th, maybe third choice in the role, I dont see the point in him being there to not play.CFCNick wrote:Lampard has played in that role for Chelsea for about 3/4 years now.

For England at least, Gerrard is better than Lampard. Gerrard's better than Carrick as well. Gerrard and Wilshere for England's middle, Carrick can always come on to close a game out if need be - although I'd prefer the much underrated Scott Parker to do that role.

Lampard is better than Gerrard. He's had to compete with the likes of Ballack and Deco to keep his job whilst Gerrard has played with the likes of Igor Biscan and Jordan Henderson.
The whole England team were shocking in 2010 and half of them mentally left the tournament after the group stage in 06. Owen Hargreaves was our best player in 06 which says a lot. England haven't looked like actually winning a tournament since Euro 2004, in which Lampard was one of the tops players. I recall we would have beaten France thanks to Frank if Stevie didn't give away that stupid free kick.
The media have had their tongues firmly against Gerrard's ring piece since that goal against Olympiacos.

Steve Gerrard, Gerrard,
He's big and he's fecking hard,
He's better than Frank Lampard,
Steve Gerrard, Gerrard.
For England, Gerrard over Lampard any day - spoken from a non-biased point of view.

I actually can be non-biased on it. Probably more so than you. Hes a better player than about 90% of English midfielders of his generation. But I prefer Gerrard. And Fatty is a Kumquat

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Lampards performances in 2006 & 2010 was peculiar, to say the least. Mainly because in both world cups he was quite probably the most in-form player in an England shirt. He was second in the 2005 WPOTY awards, playing sumptuous football for two years really, and flopped badly in 2006.
2010 came on the back of what was imo the most productive single season in EPL history, really. 22 goals 17 assists - Still have no clue how Rooney bagged POTY that year, other than the old "he was in a worse team" argument - as if he was slugging it out for Luton Town. For Lampard to perform so poorly was pretty whack, as I got myself tickets to the Eng vs USA game (was behind the posts when Greene did his thing)...

A Liverpool legend yes. But when all is said and done he's just another big fish in a small pond with a few wonder goals. He's Matt Le Tissier with a few winners medals.

Frank's been on the Ballon d'Or podium, won both WFA and PFA (despite having 2010 mystifyingly handed to Rooney) and scored more goals and recorded more assists - He is the superior player, imo. Taking nothing away from Gerrard, but Lamps is simply a from a different cloth.

Is legendary the same thing as best, Mystir? Had an awful first half and outside of a remarkable, even by sporting standards, six minutes, Liverpool were hardly bossing it, mad it still took a legendary, if not downright miraculous double save from Dudek against the greatest Serie A striker in the 21st century to get to penalties. Gerrard hardly dominated that game.
