One of the problems with Carroll is that he usually takes a while to get back up and running after injuries, and so requires a lot of game time without contributing a lot. By the time he's back to close to his best, he usually gets injured again.

Good second half saved an awful first half of the match. Chamakh scores someone alert the people at Guiness. I can't believe this guy used to play at Arsenal. West Ham has some good players Downing, Ravel, Nolan and Diame yet they seem to be underachieving.

I think the main problem with Carroll is that he isn't a very good player. It's unbelievable that he has transfer fee's if almost 60 million. His agent must be laughing all the way to the bank.Crimey wrote:One of the problems with Carroll is that he usually takes a while to get back up and running after injuries, and so requires a lot of game time without contributing a lot. Remember Rio saying that Ravel was, alongside Pogba and Januzaj, the most talented young footballer he'd ever trained with (i.e. including the academy legends he came through with like Lamps, Cole & Carrick). Said he just lacked application.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Yet hes about 20 years old and every player in our team looks to him when they have the ball. He needs a proper striker to play off. First half he had Nolan in his way, second half everyone was devoid of ability.mystiroakey wrote:Ravael looks class . Looked to play so within himself though. Could have done much more. The only moment he wakes up is at the end to throw a slap..

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Bet you weren't saying that when Carroll was single handedly carrying Newcastle back in the day. Was terrific for us, playing in a team which plays to his strengths. Scored around 15 goals for us in the EPL, he has ability no doubt & has performed on the International stage too. Remember back at the Emirates a few year back after Carroll had won us the game 1-0 & had battered the Arsenal defence. We were singing Carroll's name all day, were you?Lumbering_Jack wrote:I think the main problem with Carroll is that he isn't a very good player. So easy to slate a player when their injured & not performing. If anything Carroll last year at WH was terrific when fit & I'm sure he'll do the same again.

problem is john other than that season and half at newcastle he has very rarely not been injured or performing. 6 goals (league) in 3 years at Liverpool, 7 goals in two years at west ham. 13 goals in 5 years is simply not good enough no matter what the excuse and certainly isn't worth the outlay put on him

No doubting his injury record or extortionate fees being paid. I was just stating he's a good player in a team which plays to his strengths, is direct, and solely has him as the main focus. Liverpool did not do that, therefore he was obviously going to fail, not sure why they were surprised. I was just stating that Lumbering_Jack (who is a NUFC supporter I believe) can't go around saying he's not a very good player, when he was magnificent for us & was carrying us for 18 months.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
i agree with your point that he's a handful if you play to his style, i just feel at the moment its a bit of a "if my aunt had bo!!ocks she be my uncle" as he's never fully fit. a average player playing week in week out is better than a good player who never plays, i also dont think carroll is just extremely unlucky with injuries. i get the impression he doesnt look after himself well enough to keep with being a professional footballer. the suggestion he needs games to keep fit goes along with this

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
It was his performance against LFC when Newcastle won 3-1 (I think he scored twice) that probably convinced us to buy him once Torres went. I was sceptical and really only due to the ridiculous price tag but as I've said before, once every man and his dog knew LFC had £50million quid, it was open season. He had an indifferent start but his application was first rate and by the time the Cup Final came around, he looked as though he may become a decent asset.John wrote:No doubting his injury record or extortionate fees being paid. Wasn't Carroll's fault that Rodgers simply didn't fancy him in the team and I think his injuries made it easier to off-load him. One can only hope the same things goes for Joe Allen who surely is surely not only drinking in the last chance saloon but getting his coat on after ringing for a taxi home.

that really was a poor result last night! We need to be winning against teams like Palace, and i fear for the game against Liverpool at the weekend.

Having failed to really make any waves at Old Trafford I think tonight is make or break for fellaini. He should be fired up for tonight against his old club and really have a point to prove to the United fans who haven't really taken to him and the Everton fans who laughed that they got so much money for him
If he has a stinker then I think the fans will get on his back more and more
