Sorry, was an innocent mistake on my part. I will punch a man-bag wearer on the way home to make amends.
Btw, when I say "humus" I mean the Mediterranean mashed-chickpea dip not the layer of soil and decomposing vegetation.

Ah, my mistake. I wouldn't waste good cheese on that.
I read somewhere that humus is the oldest example of mass produced food in history. Some dude in ancient Egypt had some kind of rudimentary factory pumping it out.

Yes, good lateral thinking and nice segue into arthropods.
It might have been mass produced food with more than one ingredient then. Or first mass produced food with human intervention. Something like that.

Or might've been one of those "oldest profession" unprovable arguments.
The arthropod segue was subtle and unintentional, well sniffed out.

I thought Peperami was the first mass produced food. Its mentioned in the bible - somewhere near the cliffhanger ending.
(paraphrasing now but something like:
And they rolled away the rock covering ye cave, and the body of jesus was nowhere to be found. All that was lefteth was 3 empty peperami wrappers, and July 2BCs copy of Razzleth: Nazareth Wives special
)

I don't think humus making is the oldest profession.

I did thank you. Cooked a proper traditional Xmas lunch with a load of homemade stuff (like bisto) and had a load to drink. Even had a bottle of dessert wine to top it off.
I made turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, roasted parsnips and onions, sprouts with bacon, roast and mashed pots, carrots, homemade stuffing, bread sauce (bought).

That sounds lovely, but I would argue that you didn't "make" turkey. That would have been mummy and daddy turkey. You just cooked it.
Sounds lovely though.
We had some chocolate flavored dessert wine. It was fortified red wine with chocolate that my wife bought. It was awful. Too sweet and I had to throw my glass away.

It was a German White I had. It tastes like syrup but it's one of my guilty pleasures.
And you are correct about making the turkey. Although I did help with the conception by playing romantic music (the chicken song followed by the birdie song) into their coup.

I think white dessert wines are generally nicer than red ones.
I hid all my nice wine but my father managed to find it within 2 hours me moving it. He is Scottish so I should have known better.

No he wasn't, genuinely. It was entirely his choice.
The most exciting thing about it is that on every card there is a description of the particular bug and a little synopsis of what they are all about. It is great. Never too old to stop learning. But don't worry, I will share the knowledge at the appropriate moments.
What are you doing for new year?

Still on babysitting duties with the kitten, would be cruel to leave her alone with fireworks going off in the neighbourhood. Plus not invited anywhere and don't fancy standing around the south bank dying for a p1ss.
You up to anything?
PS - I think that now would be a good example of an appropriate moment for some arthropod knowledge.

My parents are still hanging around like a bad smell so we will inevitably stay up boring each other to death until midnight when my dad attempts to sing Auld Lang Syne and I disappear to the kitchen get a drink. New Years Eve makes me cringe. I think your night sounds more fun.

That is certainly very interesting.
Fatality rates of 8-40% have been reported in clinical studies, most victims are children - might be worth you training a couple to fend the kids off.
New Years Eve makes me cringe as well, ended up playing charades on New Years morning 2011 which was painful despite the fact that I was pretty michaeled.

Not playing charades though, that is never acceptable under any circumstances.
Bit disappointed that the Top Trumps had a millipede card but not a centipede card. Millipedes are vegetarian peace lovers whilst centipedes bite humans with so much aggression that their legs fall off.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Agree about the charades, it is sh1t. On the new year in question I thought "wtf? I'll probably never see them again" as they were the girlfriend, friends and family of a friend but ended up there the following year.
Centipedes might be a bit unfair although a solifuge would sort them out. Could also have a Hi-Tec wild card to trump a centipede.

Some mad scientists did an experiment on them once using cobalt.
Please see the findings below.
- Spoiler:
- Explanation: The myth that cockroaches will inherit the Earth in the event of nuclear warfare surfaced shortly after the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Reports later emerged that the 300 million-year-old insects were among the razed Japanese cities' only survivors. During the Cold War, anti-nuclear activists and scientists spread the myth far and wide as a cautionary tale of the atom bomb's destructive potential.
To test whether this doomsday scenario has any legs, the MythBusters subjected German cockroaches to three levels of radioactive metal cobalt 60. They started with a baseline exposure of 1,000 radon units (rads) of cobalt 60, capable of killing a person in 10 minutes, and followed it up with 10,000 and 100,000 rad exposures on separate guinea pig — er, roach — groups. (As a comparison, the bomb on Hiroshima emitted radioactive gamma rays at a strength of around 10,000 rads.)
Since radiation gradually destroys organisms on the cellular level, the MythBusters monitored the radiated roaches for 30 days. After a month, half the roaches exposed to 1,000 rads were still kicking, and a remarkable 10 percent of the 10,000 rad group was alive. The results confirmed that cockroaches can survive a nuclear explosion — but only to a point, as none of the critters in the 100,000 rad group made it through.
Cockroaches' ability to withstand extreme radiation exposure may come down to their simple bodies and slower cell cycles. Cells are said to be most sensitive to radiation when they're dividing. That's why humans are more vulnerable — they have some cells that are constantly splitting up.
Roaches, on the other hand, only molt about once a week at most, which makes radiation's window of opportunity to attack cells much narrower. But if the nuclear explosion was powerful enough, even these ancient critters couldn't continue on.

Forget her, she's clearly a stupid bint if she can't see that Moore is a far superior Bond to all others (for the record, not that I care too much about the whole culture but Tom Baker is also the best/ONLY Dr Who). Weisz also shared intimate screen time with Brendan Fraser which I firmly believe will have resulted in her losing at least 34-37% of her brains cells and the man is some kind intelligence leech.Galted wrote:Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Galted wrote:suspect that you're too dim-witted to lie with such sophistication.
