The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
I'm not really a London person. Occasionally Putney or Clapham to see mates or Lords for the cricket.
If Georgian food is anything like Estonian fayre I may give it a miss.

Your Hi-Techs started to squeek?
Probably but I was too hungry to notice. Almost broke into a run as I approached the Wrap-It-Up.
Have you ever been to Tamada by the way? Georgian restaurant off Abbey Road. Went there for my birthday and found no reason to complain.

It's a great film, I highly recommend it. Michael J Fox is brilliant and the basketball montage at the end is superb.Rowley wrote:What are we all up to this weekend. Watching Wolf of Wall Street personally, quite excited love Scorsese and will be nice to get an insight into how Tina lives his life.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I'm gonna watch Celebrity Big Brother and see if there's any fall out from the inference (note to Mods emphasis on the word inference) that there's been something salacious going on involving Linda Nolan, Jim Davidson and/or Frank Carson.
Nolan comes across like a woman too bitter and twisted to even get on Loose Women and there's a long standing hatred bewteen her and Jim. One of the housemates asked him about it after he and Nolan had their 300th row and he said, "I dunno, ask her if it's got something to do with Frank carson's dressing room."
It went nuclear after and Nolan referred to Davidson as a "_unt" (probably a fair assessment if a little rich coming from her but I digress) so Lord only knows what's gone on but all I have in my mind is a young Linda Nolan spread-eagle on a 1970's make-up table and a voice screaming "It's a cracker!!"

Dave the incident refers to Linda's now deceased husband allegedly being caught stealing from Frank Carson's wallet in his dressing room I believe, the veracity of this story or anyone's guilt etc is not something I would dream of passing comment on.

Watch One-Hour Photo instead.
Watched it last weekend. Little stalkerish w*nker.
Not up to much myself. Probably won't touch any alcohol as well....
Sean, are you really not drinking/haven't drunk alcohol this weekend (delete as appropriate depending on when you read)?
I only ask as I justify my drinking habits by saying there is a man on the forum I read who drinks more than me and can still hold down a job.

Had a dry night Thursday, a 4 pack last night. In the midst of possibly splitting up with the missus so trying to stay lucid. It is bad for you over a prolonged period. Though mate. Try 4 days off a week.

Chicken Tikka thigh and drumstick I cooked on Saturday. Alright but wasn't in the mood and slightly need a cr@p - really annoying as the post lunch ertha is being disrupted by the cleaners doing the ground floor boggas.

Sits in a dark room recovering from all the cocaine, ludes, booze and hookers at the weekend. (I watched Wolf Of Wall Street this weekend, therefore I assume that is pretty much Tina's life)

Both plausible. I have a theory that he could be being sparing with the truth with regards his job. I was thinking about jobs where you have monday's off - chinese takeaways and hairdressers. I have a feeling he isn't chinese so it only really leaves one possibility.

Could also be he has a cash-in-hand job and signs on on Mondays. From memory signing on day was Tuesday or Thursday but maybe they do things differently up north.

I take way more drugs, sleep with many more hookers and defraud millions more people. Apart from that, it could be a documentary of my life.

Quite possibly. Perhaps Sharon from 'Cutting Edge' just gives him a bit cash in hand for sweeping the hair up?

I enjoyed it a lot, I am a bit of a Scorsese obsessive so am not the most objective, but it was pretty faithful to the book and did not tack on some epiphany about him seeing the error of his ways to the end, he is kind of an unapologetic scumbag and remains so throughout.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Posted elsewhere that I've already seen it. Worthy of the plaudits with great performances throughout (except Brad Pitt). Still rate Schindler's List above it and would rank it alongside the likes of "The Killing Fields" when talking about the triumph of the human spirit.
The film does beg any number of questions such as "Why doesn't the lead character ever have a beard?" After 12 years as a slave and, you'd think, without access to sharp objects he could secret about his person to slit his captor's throats, he'd have had a beard to admire.
Still, these are minor gripes and shouldn't detract from an excellent film

Thanks Dave. I will try not to let the lack of beards put me off.
I offered Mrs Windows American Hustle or Wolf of Wall Street but she chose 12 Years A Slave because, in her words, she wanted something uplifting after being married to me for too long.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
It is a good film Tina, well acted and deals with a difficult subject in a sensitive enough manner. Don’t know why but not sure it moved me or upset me as much as I was expecting, not sure if I felt the film was trying to pull the heartstrings too much or this is a reflection of my inherent racism but was a little underwhelmed.
I preferred American Hustle on the off chance the voting panel of the Academy value my opinion.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
The critics made a big deal about the brutality of the film yet, the flogging scene aside, it's not even close to "The Passion of the Christ" for squeamish moments. then again, years of listening to white supremacist thrash metal etc etc etc may have conditioned me not to give two shiny sh*ts about anyone or anything ever again.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I occasionally shower in the morning if I've been on it the night before but the only real point of a shower is to demonstrate to guests how water-resistant your Gore-Tex or Jack Wolfskin 3-in-1 jacket is.
I far prefer baths as there's nothing better than wallowing in your own filth for an hour at the end of the day knowing that anyone dying for a crap is dependent on you being arsed to leave the bathroom.

Not really an option because TSMR will be watching something on the TV which will be a distraction or will have the quaint believe I should actually speak to her. Where she gets the impression she is more interesting than a book about the middleweight scene in Pittsburgh in the 1930s is anyone's guess.

Doesn't the steam from the bath ruin the book? I only ever read on holiday, usually in a rubber ring whilst in the pool. By the time I've finished them they look like they've been chewed by Wingrove.
