The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
You could be right. If only you'd stuck to sonoluminescence, it definitely would have merited a round of applause. As it is, I'm not sure my conscient will allow it.

I think it is a grey ground Julius rather than black and white, so we may agree to disagree on this one

Could be fun doing a test-drive p1ssed and seeing how many cyclists you can rack up. Would probably inspire a thread from Lumbering Jack on Monday.

I remember once a car dealer handing me his business card and I was a bit confused and startled as it had my name on it.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Carrot, Butternut and Spice soup with mini-baguette and slab of butter from Pret
Taste 2/5 – A bit tasteless but not unpleasant, especially given that it contains a variety of vegetables. Not very spicy so the Pret naming convention is, once again, misleading to the point of being fraudulent.
Health 5/5 – Contains the vegetables previously mentioned, as well as the previously unmentioned sweet potato, and contains only 400 calories so can't fault Pret on the health factor. So healthy in fact that it falls under their "soup-er healthy" banner. "Soup-er" isn't a proper word but a play on "soup" and "super". The calorie-count would drop to a waist-friendly 199 if the mini-baguette and slab of butter were excluded.
Price 3/5 – was fairly priced at £3.75 (£3.25 without the mini-baguette and slab of butter) which, while not cheap, is not unaffordable. For £3.75 Rowley could have bought Drummond Street, Rotherham.
Onion factor 5/5 – didn't see, taste or smell onion, no mention of onions on the website.
Overall: 4/5
I was admirably served by the polite and presentable Arnoldas, a young foreigner, who kindly offered to place my lunch in a bag, an offer I declined equally politely. He was sufficiently handsome for me to have considered furiously bumming him even though I'm not that way inclined. Again, slightly disappointed that Pret staff don't point out the free condiments and cutlery, this probably doesn’t affect the more experienced Pret customer but, for newcomers or customers returning after a lengthy absence, this could be both confusing and distressing. Another complaint I have with some Pret staff (though this is not applicable to the bummable Arnoldas) is that they frequently ask if the customer is "dining in" when there's no f*cking "dining in" facility – this may be on account of them all being foreign and not knowing what it is they're asking.
Would certainly recommend this particular soup to people I didn't dislike.

I have just noticed that the Bird from the curling who looks like Iain Dowie has changed her name.
That means that someone either is, or was, tapping that.

Not really relevant for the music section but just had an amusing incident. Husband just rang here asking for his wife. Turns outs he didn't know she'd taken the day off......

Gotta be careful with stuff like that - similar thing happened at work and we all thought the woman was a ho for weeks. Turned out she'd taken the day off so she could buy her husband a car for his 40th.

Be even funnier if he throttles her and it turns out she took the day off to make arrangements for his surprise birthday party.

Or... he could be like me and have a wife that tells him a lot of things and for the sake of his own sanity he chooses to filter out things that are not important e.g. that she has taken the day off work.
If you allow too much through, you forget how to do important things. It's like the time my dad showed me how to drink Scotch properly and I forgot how to drive.*
*Yes, I did borrow that line from the Simpsons.

A good trick I got shown is to fill your Scotch glass with water and then tip it out before you pour the Scotch in. Some of the water clings to the side of the glass and on the bottom and it gives a distinctly different taste to the drink. It is not the same as having whiskey and water which is for cretins and southerners, but it does take a tiny bit of edge away.

No it doesn't, I put meths in my glass, poured it out and then filled it with whiskey. It was bloody horrible.seanmichaels wrote:Mind the windows Tino. wrote:superflyweight wrote:It's like the time my dad showed me how to drink Scotch properly
