2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
First topic message reminder :
World T20 has started again...seems like a few months back WI won it........
I think this will be turned into a 4 year event...and rightly so.
so far:
--BD beat Afghanistan........avenging their Asia cup defeat...and BD were talking up the win as if it's an achievement......well maybe it is...shows where they have set their bar or expectations. I can't be excited watching or following such a game.
--Nepal beat Hongkong.......is this a surprise ?...I have no clue where / how either of these teams stand?....and no interest either.
--and the big upset IRE beat Zim off the last ball...and that too without their stars Morgan and Boyd Rankin

We didn't deserve that win, commiserations to Netherland, they should have had this.
SA regardless of us winning this match, I don't see us going any further anyway, our tactics, selections and form is just not there.

Same with Oz. We just don't have the right team balance and subtle enough tactics for this format of the game.
It's really all about full throttle batting (come-what-may) for us and our bowling will be cannon fodder for just about every half-decent team.
They might blast a big score if they're lucky (or otherwise quickly crumble in a heap) but I don't think they can contain opposition batsmen so well.
As some commentator correctly pointed out the other day - "this Australian team has only one gear..." It's such a one dimensional approach!

But the thing is,it is T20. Either can still win, and no one would be surprised. Hell! even England could still win

amazed Davis gave that not out, it wasn't even one of those which was blurred by replays for me, looked straight into the hands, not sure what Davis saw to see it given not out, make-up decision?

Yes, I thought that. With no anthems, each side could have had 25 overs!

Totally agree. Almost seems little point in referring anything remotely similar when ''not out'' has to be the decision based on this.

It was so clearly out, the ball isn't even caught in like his little finger he's caught between his index finger and might finger so his hands are obviously under it!!

then an inside-edge for four. Jayawardene really riding his luck so far, 25 of the flukiest runs you'll see...

the more you see the "catch" the more incomprehensible the decision is, there's even a gap between the ball and the ground FFS. bit of a shocker really...
England could do with a couple of wickets reasonably quickly, just to set SL back a bit.

England's fielding has been poor all round. The two dropped catches aside, there have been a number of fumbles which just sets the wrong tone.
Thank God for Tredders.

Broad can't set a field for Jordan if he is going to vary his length like this. They need to sort it out.

Is there a new theory about bringing third man up and bowling full out side off stump?

I think the simple idea is SL are scoring all their runs on the leg side wherever England bowl it, so they're giving himself the cover there. I actually think it's sensible all things considered.

Steyn and Tahir bowled nicely, but my God the Netherlands threw it away. Some suicidal shots when needing four an over.

Buttler and Dernbach do their Chuckle Brothers impression - ''To me, to you!''
Currently, 170 plus looks on.
I would have given Bopara a bowl before now.

I get that, but I think you have to leave your third man back if you are going to bowl that line and length. You can still have cover on the leg side with third man back. It's asking for trouble.

I agree with Guildford, I am surprised Bopara hasn't bowled yet. He's been our best T20 bowler for a while!
When you're not playing well, everything goes against you, but Jayawardene is beginning to punish us well.

Understand and share your annoyance, Olly, but we've had chances since then and failed to take them. Also, as a result of too much poor bowling and fielding, we haven't actually challenged Sri Lanka as much as we should have done.

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
you do wonder why they play these day-night games. I think Swann a few years ago said it was virtually impossible to bowl in these conditions. England have apparently been practising dipping the ball in buckets of water to get ready!! not really optimal conditions for decent cricket is it?

Yeah, but if a great football team - say, the pride of Norfolk - had a goal unfairly disallowed in the opening minutes, you would still expect them to rise above the injustice and go on to win rather than lose the match and their heads in embarrassing fashion!

I know that's the rational thought, but I've seen it happen plenty of times. Ultimately cricketers (and all sportsmen) are human beings, with human (emotional responses). Of course sometimes it goes the other way, and you use that sense of injustice to fuel your performance. what I have noticed is that it's very rarely a case of "everything back to normal again".
