I don't think anyone is blaming Rooney are they?

I think the point being made is similar to your, he's not a wide player. He has to be played centrally.

So the question is, does he warrant being in the side ahead of Sturridge as striker, or Sterling in the number 10 role. Before the game, I'd have said maybe ahead of Sterling, but I think after the Italy game, you have to keep Sterling.

So the final question is, is he the bext option out wide, answer has to be no.

One thing I thought, but hasn't been mentioned anywhere, is Welbeck's part in their second goal....

Firstly, Welbeck had a good game and deserves his place IMO. Secondly, Baines had a mare against Candreva and Darmian, although he has little help. But for their second goal, Welbeck had been switched with Rooney to provide better cover to Baines, but then they attack down our left and Welbeck is just ambling back, leaving Baines exposed two on one again. Why was he not busting a gut to get back and defend, given he had just been moved there for that very reason.

We must have watched a different game Soddy, Gerrard was really poor IMO. He didn't do anything, he was supposed to be our playmaker didn't play make anything.

Saying that I was pleased with England's performance in the whole, didn't see many long balls and we lost to the better side. If we play like this against Costa Rica and Uruguay we'll go through easily.

Englands midfield was pretty much set out to stifle the middle with Italy packing theirs with slower paced playmakers. Protecting the FBs therefore was the wingers job. Its why Gerrard looked quiet.

I don't think Gerrard was really poor. He wasn't brilliant and gave the ball away a few times, but I would rate him as average in that game.

I don't think he was tasked to be a playmaker though was he? It looked clear to me that him and Henderson were tasked with sweeping up behind the front 4 to give protection centrally. It worked well as Italy looked dangerous out wide, but not as much through the middle.

And they were up against Pirlo, Marchisio, De Rossi and Verratti. They were always going to be having to work hard rather than be creative up against those 4

Transfer opening today?

Right, I haven't really had a proper look at my side to see where I need to target, but I'll consider all offers for my players

Gerrard completed like 62 of 67 passes or something, he was good at getting us going on the attack, he just doesn't have the legs anymore to make an impact in the defensive side of the game

I would put Rooney behind Sturridge myself, and Sterling out wide. For as "badly" as Rooney played he still displayed our only real moment of attacking quality with the cross for the goal, and I don't think sterling has the end product consistently enough yet to justify the 10 role, especially considering were a team that barring Rooney/Sturridge who don't really have any other regular goalscorers

There is no chance that Hodgson drops Rooney for Uruguay now. We have to win and if he drops Rooney he'll be lambasted.

Then again, he's probably getting a shoeing if he keeps him.

Some good news though. I won Euro 2016 with England on FM last night. £100 to whoever guesses my starting XI correctly, in the correct formation.

I think this probably what I would as well. Sterling did frighten the Italians though, and can you imagine what he could do against CBs with limited pace like Lugano or Godin.

Part of me really thinks, put Welbeck left, Sterling centrally and bring in the Ox on the right

Scarily close. This competition is over because I need my £100.

Although you'd probably never get the formation I play.

I didn't include Noble. Sadly FM underrate his mad skills.

It was:

Hart
Jones - Shawcross - Stones
Clyne---------------------------Baines
Ward-Prowse - Wilshere - Henderson
Barkley
Rooney

Although that is also my first choice XI. By the final I had a significant number of injuries, suspensions and tiredness.

Shout out to my boy Jay Rodriguez for his stoppage time winner against Germany in the quarter final.

So it's a week before tactics are due in? I'm ready to submit now, seems a shame not to have games this week.

Also, did we decide on who receives the tactics? Is it GSC for posting, or the voter only for deciding? Might be nicer if the voter posted tactics along with the vote itself, save the suspense and spoiler comments.
