Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
First topic message reminder :
Tbf this isn't the same Costa that's been playing for Atletico, a long hard season and a few injuries catching up with him here I thinkowen10ozzy wrote:Diego Costa for £32 million isn't looking to hot either...Chelsea could be looking at the 3 most expensive striker flops in history in Shevchenko, Torres and now Costa.
He lacks pace and mobility which for me are essential in the premiership.

Get the jet fuelled.
Hope they do, then they might be banned from the next World Cup!
Colombia will tear their them apart anyway.

I can excuse a heat of the moment challenge, with an appropriate punishment.
I can't excuse anybody who makes a conscious effort to harm another player. A bite is not instinct for any rational human being raised in civilization.

Yep I agree with this. Clearly when Suarez gets frustrated or angry he lashes out but not by punching or elbowing but by biting. It seems that is Suarez's reaction to frustration.
Biting is a horrible thing to do don't get me wrong but it does appear that Suarez does it as a natural reaction just like some players elbow or headbutt or punch.

To be honest I am not sure what your views are.
My opinion is that the bite was wrong of course but the bite he gave to chiellini was not as bad as some elbows or headbutts that I have witnessed or some very dangerous 2 footed jumping tackles that were aimed at hitting the player.
A 4 month ban is sufficient as it is the 3rd time he has committed the same offence and it is an off the ball offence.
I agree that there are other plays, maliciously dangerous ones, that should be treated as seriously. Undoubtedly. But that's not for me to do but the authorities. I also agree that overall the punishment for Suarez seems reasonable to me. But I don't agree that his repeat biting offences should be defended in terms of someone saying "Yeah, but sure other things happen on the field that don't get so much publicity"
The topic for now is a player repeat offending in the biting department. That's the issue. How serious it is, how it needs to be stamped out, how fame and fortune and footballing ability (or the needs of a Professional club!) shouldn't preclude Suarez from being punished for it. And yes, the more often the offence, the more serious should be the punishment. My view is he's had his chances now. He's used up all his cards. Next time he bites it should be a lifetime ban.

The first one perhaps flash of anger. The next 2 theres a clear delay between contact when he decides to bite him. 1/3 a flash of anger at best for me.

If Uruguay refuse to play does that mean Italy will get back in or will Colombia have a bye?

Luis Suarez is set to seek advice from Fernando Torres, who has experienced nearly 3 years with very little football activity.

Would make sense to let Italy come back in but I doubt Uruguay will go through with their threat.

Of course they weren't refusing. They were English at the time. Only South Americans refuse to do things.

They nearly pulled out of a qualifier against Turkey, but that was all, I believe.

Whats more surprising is the match wasn't stopped straight away and he be not red carded immediately.
Even dogs don't bite these days brought up in a civilized way.

Now that the USA have a larger fan base for "soccer", is it possible for them to come up with a more imaginative chant than " Yew-Ess-A?

This is what somebody wrote on twitter on his biting
"This cannibal should be slapped with a lifetime ban. His team mates should book seperate flights home in case the plane goes down in the mountains. Imagine a crash and you're sitting beside a guy who likes to snack on human flesh. At least feed the man before the game."

Haven't you heard the "I believe!", "I believe that!", "I believe that we!", "I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win!"
Quite catchy when they get going.

So if Ghana wins 2-1 and USA lose 0-1, who will go to the next round? both are equal on points , goal difference and goals forward.

It goes to drawing of lots as a last resort, but Ghana will have scored more than USA if they win 2-1.

Points.
Goal difference.
Goals scored.
Head to head result.
Drawing of lots.
That's how its sorted, in that order. Could have happened with Nigeria-Iran, yesterday.
