Wimbledon Day 8 - Page 7 Empty Wimbledon Day 8

Post by Guest Tue 01 Jul 2014, 10:20 am

First topic message reminder :

So we are nearing the business end of Wimbledon.

Federer is up against Robredo looking to avenge his US Open defeat last year.

Nadal will face the new kid on the block Kyrgios.

Wawrinka is up against Lopez and Raonic will face Nishikori.

On the ladies side Sharapova against Kerber.

Kvitova, Lisicki and Halep all in action.

Interestingly enough Wimbledon is the only event not to have Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray all clash in the Semi's. So could we see that duck get broken?

I'm sure his 2 Wimbledon titles will make him a little happier....

Maybe so, I'm sure he doesn't care a jot.  He's been bloomin' unlucky 3 years in a row.

Or he's lacked the ability to adapt?

Could've tried S&V? He's pretty decent at the net

He was certainly serving well enough today to warrant that tactic in the future.

Yes I know very well who he's referring to - I have been observing from afar.

I suspect Amritia/KbN/Red/IMBL etc may have come into contact with the evil entity known as BOO (Oh BOOOO0000oooo.......). Hence I have returned to cleanse his soul, for verily he and they are all one.

Thanks LF - Actually supporting Stan and Kerber now, I was just being humorous. But on a serious note though, Fed's developed a rather legitimate Saffer accent... The Swiss German inflection when he speaks English gives a crude Afrikaans-English vibe

A WTF would be worth more than another W/AO/USO/RG. Hopefully he can do it soon, perhaps this year.

Dimitrov has a much tougher road than Korgi, IMVHO.

PS: Writing Djokovic off may be a bit too early, too. Murray may have too much nous for Dimi, but I am happy to be wrong, for the sake of new blood and a new title holder.

This Krygios kid is cold blooded though. Don't think he missed a first serve from 4-1 up. Nadal's recent history at SW19 means I'm not anointing this kid yet, but when you have that serve, and that backhand... and that level of competition (the Raonic generation) I see half a dozen plus Slams in his future.

He'll be tough if he serves like he did today but Feds looking very good

Yeah, let's not congratulate the player that made Nadal look like an average player in faster conditions (which he is). Instead, Nadal didn't "play good". He wasn't allowed to.  Nadal wouldn't have come close to winning Wimbledon of old.  He has no B game at all.  His entire routine is based around hitting to an opponents back hand, moonballing, and hoping for mistakes.  He is boring. I am laughing my head off at all those fist pumps he did...  looking back on that match, he just looks ridiculous now.

That's 3 years in a row that he has come unstuck when his routine, boring, moonball play can't get him over the line. Seems to have a big issue against taller players. GOAT?  You are having a LAUGH.  We are finally seeing the end of that dark cloud. Skill, variety and shot making, over dull, defensive, bores.  FINALLY.  The stink of Nadal and his one-eyed fans, who ignore all his misdemeanours, is coming to an end.

VAMOS!

GREAT STUFF.

Nadal tends to fade end of season, even taking into account that HC isn't his best surface (though he was getting better on it and worse on grass) and he's especially beatable indoors

What I am happy for the result are as follows

1]A grass should play as grass and aggressive players should win and thats the result today.

2]A young blood rising to the challange to deflate the current world no.1

3]I just don't wanna see Rafa ending the current year as World no.1, then you simply cannot control Rafa fans .  Very Happy

4]Last but not least, it would be fun to take some dig at Rafa fans who were all at celebration after the French Open.  Very Happy

Otherwise lets be frank, Rafa has excelled more than enough on a surface that least suits his style, he has won 2 titles with 5 final appearance given his style of play its simply amazing.

Call em as I see em. Don't worry we've seen this bloke. He's a coward he says his thing and runs away before he can be told off. The fact he has t moved on for this long tells me exactly what he or she is

It is nice to see new names in the QFs. Even nicer if we see 4 new names in the SFs

No way. Fed will slice  and drop shot him to death.

Raonic-Korgi will be a serving heaven.

Fed-Stan a SHBH heaven.

Andy-Dimi average.

Djoko-Cilic average.

It depends whether you think that domination by serve is "heaven"  Rolling Eyes

For me Roger's not slicing and dicing as much anymore. He doesn't want long rallies - I honestly Roger will now lose to any of his rivals if they play well, regardless of his form. Certainly transport Murray to the final and give me Roger rather than Stan or Raonic. I just think that ultimately, the big boys have beaten Roger enough not to be cowed by four good matches!!
