Also, Maitland off at the end of the season to join the Dr & Micky Flanagan at London Irish.

Glasgow do well and big clubs come along and swoop up big name players like Matawalu and Maitland.
To be fair No Maits probably needs a change, has only scored once this season.
Now I want to see some movement in the transfer window in Glasgow's favour!

I think what Tattie is hinting is that one player there is a positively gigantic lady's shirt and the others lived for being able to stick a shoulder in their opponent's ribs.

I'm sorry but, Have you lot seen McVisser this season? He HAS been tackling! And not touch-tackling either. Solly must have told him to sort it or he won;'t play.

Aces, I would fit right in. Abu Dhabi and Stockbridge are very similar places.tigertattie wrote:GC wins the prize

One is a fairyland metropolis where the fantastically wealthy can flaunt their money obscenely and wantonly without fear of judgement or disapproval, where the social hierarchy is both complex and deeply engrained, where having a fleet of domestic helpers is standard and where the cars on the road cost more than the average British house.
The other is Abu Dhabi.

More info on Maitland's departure this morning - apparently he was wanting to get more gametime at fullback and Glasgow couldn't give him that.
Also, Glasgow decided against giving him a big pay offer, suggesting he was a luxury they just couldn't afford.

Cuthbert has actually been pretty good for Edinburgh. Maitland is a better player but Cuthbert seems to have got a new lease of life

I suspect tattie is joking, but Cuthbert was excellent last season and has slowly built up his form again this season after a poor start (I mean come on, he was dropped for McLennan!).
Let's just ignore the hilarious balls-up he did last week that lead to their try. It was truly awful!

I don't think Glasgow were paying his wages. When he signed for Glasgow I'm sure it was the SRU who were footing his wages.
I think Maitland is a cracking player but I think it could be a good thing for Maitland, Glasgow and Scotland. Maitland goes and has a new challenge in a tough league playing for an improving team who have quite a few more signings to bring through.
It will free up a squad space for hopefully another SQ winger to come through and stake a claim and hopefully at more depth for Scotland and also have a rejuvenated Maitland playing in blue as well.

Technically the SRU pays all the wages, but I know you what you mean. Maybe that's what the problem was - maybe his new contract would have to come from Glasgow's budget.

Maitland should have been given more time at 15 - Hogg doesn't really have much competition internationally. Murchie and Cuthbert are solid club players but don't have the spark that Hogg and Maitland have.
Would have been good to have seen Maitland at FB and Hogg in the centre.

Who would Hogg displace at centre? Bennett, Dunbar, Scott?
I don't see a case for moving one of our best players into a different position.
McColl at Glaws is another option at 15.

...and drop one of the best group of young centres we've had in decades to accommodate said transition!!
Jones at 9, Hogg at 10, Lamont at 12, Vernon at 13, Maitland at 15.....I'm convinced that Scott Johnson visits these boards!!

Gutted to see Glasgow go out, but there is a small part of me that's almost glad. We were never going to win the Challenge Cup.
Was envisioning us mimicking Ulster from last season, fighting 2 fronts, and exiting both knock out stages early.
Now we can focus purely on the pro12 & hopefully go one better than last year

I can't see Glasgow winning anything unless they improve their scrum - they've been second best in a lot of games this year.

It would help if we could ever get all of our best props on the pitch at the one time. Cussack gave it a good go today, but no where near match fit yet, he has been out a long time and it is going to take some time, he was only ever a 50 minute player at best at his prime. Grant just starting to come back into some form and has unavoidable other business to deal with. Murray absent for his reasons.
Todays problems where not just about the props though, JG is our only real bulk second row. Swinson is relatively lightweight and Naka probably not the most technical of players either. Big Al is a lineout second row first, second and third. It is definitely an area we need to strengthen for next year.

I think as a whole Scotland are struggling in the front row, WP Nel can't qualify soon enough as far as I'm concerned

Nel's scrummaging has really come of age this season, this has allowed Dickinson to really have a go at other teams TH and more often than not getting on top of them.

Just posted on this topic on the international board; Nel looks to be the answer at 3 for Scotland, as you say his scrummaging has really improved and along with his loose play, defensive strength and prolific try scoring he does look like he will be a great addition.

Agreed with that Dickinson Ford Nel are a solid unit, with a good 4 and 5 behind them. There will be better scrums out there but not many in the Proq12, or indeed in Europe as.Ibanez said after the game on Friday. Almost as good as Chunk Ford Cross at their best.

Nel, Ford and Dickinson should be the WC front row, with Cross, Brown and Grant on the bench.

Hogg at his best - no doubt, but not sure he has been for a good year plus. Maitland in general, including on yesterday's show looks able to read the game and what's in front of him better or at least more consistently. On which note and might be entirely irrational, but you watch certain players confident that they won't make silly mistakes while others you kind of watch from behind the sofa, hoping they don't but unfortunately expecting them to throw in the odd howler. Not to say that Hogg fits into the latter category, because he doesn't (although high ball work of late) and i would not be moving him to centre, but watching Maitland, for me he certainly fits into the first category - confident that the silly mistakes won't come. Very sorry he is moving on from Glasgow.

Got to agree with this. Hogg certainly shouldn't be moved to centre, but on yesterday's showing, and if Hogg isn't fully fit, Maitland needs to start at 15 against France.
Hogg would be a decent impact sub though.

Brendan McKibbin is heading to London Irish. Disappointing that Glasgow couldn't secure him, but am I right in saying he's still Scottish qualified? As far as I remember he was picked for the Wallabies squad but never played.

Yep sat on the bench for the wallabies against Wales 2 years ago but never got on so is still qualified for Scotland. Would have been a great signing for Glasgow with Matawalu leaving. I know Glasgow did try to get him a couple years ago.

Yep sat on the bench for the wallabies against Wales 2 years ago but never got on so is still qualified for Scotland. Would have been a great signing for Glasgow with Matawalu leaving. I know Glasgow did try to get him a couple years ago.
There would be a fair bit of an uproar if he did play for Scotland, but who cares!
I'd have him in front of Hidalgo and just behind Cusiter/Laidlaw. Would be a bold move but we could take his as our 3rd WC scrum half.

In other news, Wasps signing Frank Halai probably puts the Tim Visser to Wasps rumours to bed.
I bet he goes to London Irish - everyone else seems to be just now!

I'd have no problems him playing for Scotland - eventually - what I do think would be outrageous would be if he arrived at London Irish over the summer and was in the world cup squad over Cusiter, Pyrgos or Hidalgo-Clyne!
Can't see it happening though - we're hardly desperate at 9.

I thought so too, but it seems that under (Regulation 8.3) he is tied to Australia by virtue of having sat on their subs bench, but without having played.madmaccas wrote:Brendan McKibbin is heading to London Irish. It's pretty bizarre that a player can be tied to a country without having received a cap.

To be fair LI will need Visser now they've signed Maitland. At least someone in their back line will need to score the tries.....

Ben Franks is the most amazing signing so far. We would kill for someone like that.RDW_Scotland wrote:Aye he's pretty much exactly what Glasgow needed - high calibre, experienced, and even SQ.
London Irish are seriously flexing their financial muscles just now!

Really? I don't see that as a problem, he's performed at the highest levels so we don't need to see what he can do! It's no different to picking an English based player (ala Cowen, Low etc) so it wouldn't be parachuting him in as it seems for Blake.
